AIBU to ask if Cambridge Technicals are the same as A levels?

Morning all,

So dd is due to start sixth form in September and has her heart set on a particular school. It is heavily oversubscribed and they have made it clear that not everyone will get a place. She wants to do A levels in Geography, Sociology and PE.

If she has to stay at her current school, they do not offer A level PE but do a Cambridge Technical instead.

DD has no idea what career path she wants to take but thinks she'd like to go to uni.

So my question is, does anyone have experience of Cambridge Technicals and are they viewed as equivalent to an A level when applying for jobs or uni? Google searches say that they are an equivalent number of UCAS points but to check which individual universities which she can't do as she doesn't know yet what she wants to study!

Many thanks in advance!

A CTEC is similar to a BTEC, so more portfolio based than traditional exam based A Level qualifications. They are equivalent to A Levels, but the reference to checking universities is because some (eg Russell Group) don’t accept them for some courses, while others will only accept candidates who have done 1 C/BTEC plus 2 A Levels. Sounds like that wouldn’t be a problem for your daughter though.

My DD did alongside A levels and it was included in offers from places as reputable as Warwick for an unrelated course.
