Bleeding during pregnancy, who had it?

BeanieBart · 29/06/2020 17:45

Sorry I'm committing the age old sin of posting for traffic!

8 weeks pregnant and had an internal ultrasound yesterday due to some spotting. The scan showed a baby of the right size with a heartbeat and so I was sent away and just told it can be normal and to contact them again if it gets any worse.

The spotting has been on and off now for about 2 weeks. It keeps turning brown and dying off and then starting pink again for a day or so.

It went brown and stopped yesterday just before my scan but I think the internal scan irritated it again as it's been spotting very very lightly again since!

It's driving me mental. I'm glad everything is okay of course but it's not seemed to ease my anxiety very much. I just want it to stop and stay gone!

Did anyone else have this?

Thank you for replying, I don’t understand why they can’t give me a blood test to see if my hcg is dropping rather than the torture of waiting 10 days

kirinm · 30/06/2020 10:58

Yes I bled heavily from 5w to 18w and was admired into hospital at 16w due to losing 2 pints of blood. I don't know how but she was perfectly fine and is now nearly 2.

AllesAusLiebe · 30/06/2020 11:32

Hi OP, I had this at around 10 weeks and then at 13 weeks. I went into a blind panic and contacted the midwife who sent me to the early pregnancy unit for a check. Everything was fine but because I'd had miscarriages and an ectopic before (without any bleeding, incidentally) they wanted to be certain.

Just a thought though . . . when this was happening, I called my mother to tell her and she very calmly said, "oh, I had that with you - nothing to worry about!" It turns out that she experienced bleeding at exactly the same time. Maybe just a coincidence but maybe worth asking your mum if you've got a good relationship?

Hope it turns out OK. It's so horrible when you're worried and just want answers.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 30/06/2020 12:09

I bled with first from 16 weeks for almost 3 weeks. Heavy with clots some days. Was taken to hospital when it first started as I was very heavy. Ds is 7 now.

Smithlets80 · 30/06/2020 12:18

I had a few instances of spotting with both of my IVF pregnancies DD(11 months) and current one (22 weeks). The midwife said that this is quite common in IVF pregnancies and both stopped at about 12 weeks. It mainly happened after a bowel movement with me too so try not to worry.

BeanieBart · 30/06/2020 12:33

Thanks everyone for replying. I've not had anymore spotting today so far! @Prayingforamiracle20 I really hope everything is okay for you.

Maybe just a coincidence but maybe worth asking your mum if you've got a good relationship?

I've actually already spoken to her and she doesn't think she had any with me but my grandma, who was also on the phone at the time (we're a close family 😂) said she's fairly certain she had a similar thing with my mum 🤷

Ahhhhhhh!!! This is driving me crazy now. I am so paranoid.

I've had more spotting this week after bowel movements, it's always brown and only on the tissue but I've also stopped throwing up for the past 3 days (still feel nauseous on and off). I'm so paranoid that something is wrong. I feel like asking for another scan but I only had one a week ago!! Just want it to piss off now Sad

Sorry I haven't read all the comments so apologies if this has already been asked.
Did you get an internal examination? I bled on and off throughout my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies (but not at all on my 1st or 4th) and when they examined me they said it was due to an erosion on my cervix.

Readyme · 04/07/2020 15:33

Yes huge amounts of red blood with cramping, DC was fine in fact it was my only successful pregnancy out of 3.

WobblyLondoner · 04/07/2020 16:11

I had spotting on and off in my first trimester, culminating I'm afraid I'm a huge bleed (on a train) at about 9 weeks. I thought I'd miscarried, as did my GP, but when I went for a scan a week later I was still pregnant and the big bleed was from something called a subchorionic haematoma, from memory a pocket of blood that forms in the womb and then bursts. I don't know if the smaller bleeds were linked to that too.

Good luck OP, it is so distressing while it's happening - even though it's 14 years ago now for me I remember it vividly.

IfItWerentForYouMeddlingKids · 04/07/2020 16:16

What a coincidence, I've just posted a similar thread! This months period is late and I'm fairly sure I got a positive test this morning, but the only time I could've conceived was four weeks ago, and I got a 'period' about a week after!

BeanieBart · 04/07/2020 16:27

Did you get an internal examination?

I didn't have an examination as such. I had an internal scan to check the baby last week and all was fine, had a healthy heartbeat and right size etc... They said there was nothing in the scan that would explain the bleeding and that it can just sometimes happen for unknown reasons.

Still doesn't make it any easier though.

It's stressing me out massively that I've not been sick for the past few days too. I was being sick everyday up until about 3 days ago where I've felt nauseous still but not nearly as bad as I was feeling.

OP, ask them to check for a polyp. They usually bleed out when you strain on the loo, then fill up with blood again, only to do it again, next time you strain.

FeatherInTheBreeze · 04/07/2020 17:08

OP Pls ask them for another scan if you are still bleeding. Tell them your sickness has eased. It might be all fine and it so often is as lots of people here have experienced. Sometimes it doesn't turn out fine and it's always worth getting it checked. I speak from a very sad experience. X

Mrhodgeymaheg · 04/07/2020 17:15

Had a lot of bleeding on my first and had an SCH. It gushed out of me and was bright red, so very scary. Other times it was MC - one I bled a lot, the other not so much and less than SCH pregnancy. You can't really tell at this stage, the only thing I would say is miscarriages are usually quite painful.

I know it's hard, but you just have to hold on to the fact that all was well at your last scan and get checked out for any heavy bleeding.

AgentCooper · 04/07/2020 17:17

Me. I had cervical erosion through the first trimester and DS is now 2.5 and fine.

corythatwas · 04/07/2020 17:20

I had it in both pregnancies, too late to be implantation bleeding, got taken into hospital as there were other concerns too, both babies fine in the end. Almost certainly cervical erosion. Have since had bleeding from that when not pregnant.

CertainGecko · 04/07/2020 17:22

I had pink and brown bleeding at 7 weeks and then off and on for about a fortnight. Scan at epu showed a heartbeat but I was paranoid every day that it might have stopped. It stuck and I have a lovely solid chunk of newborn lying next to me as I type! It was hard getting to the 12 week scan, and I didn't really relax until I got regular movements. I had had two miscarriages in the past but both were missed ones so I don't consider bleeding to be a reliable indicator at all.

Mamabem · 04/07/2020 17:41

I had spotting with both of mine at around 8-10 weeks, as did my friend with her two. Four healthy babies between us, after much early fretting Flowers

Tunnocks34 · 04/07/2020 17:44

@BeanieBart bleeding with a poo is so so so common in pregnancy. I literally had pink blood every time with my sons, and I was told it’s because your cervix is really sensitive and a poo basically pushes it.

Roomba · 04/07/2020 17:51

I had heavy, period like bleeding every four weeks during my second pregnancy, right up to giving birth at 38 weeks. This is what led to me not even realising I was pregnant until I was 28 weeks+!

DS2 was absolutely fine, I was monitored a lot and he was healthy, normal weight and has never had any health issues since (he's 8 shortly).

I had the same with DS1, but only once at 6 weeks. Was convinced I'd miscarried, but no, he was premature due to pre eclampsia but otherwise fine.

My mother says she bled all the way through being pregnant with me, too.

Thanks, I know this logically but this along with feeling better M/S wise is just making me so paranoid.

girlicorne · 04/07/2020 20:23

I did at about 7 weeks with my first. She’s about to turn 13! I hope all is ok with you and your pregnancy.

BeanieBart · 05/07/2020 11:16

Hi again all!

Been for another scan today (hospital are going to hate me) and everything is fine still and they still can't see any reason for bleeding.

This is so stressful but I'm glad things are okay and I got to see baby and heartbeat again ❤️

Hi ladies! Just wanted to say thanks for posting your stories as there are loads of positive ones. I'm having some brown spotting (just looks like brown discharge) at 7 weeks, for 2 days so far. Decided to bite the bullet and book an early scan for Sunday, as I'm a super anxious person anyway. Patience is not my strong point! X
