Bleeding during pregnancy, who had it?

Sorry I'm committing the age old sin of posting for traffic!

8 weeks pregnant and had an internal ultrasound yesterday due to some spotting. The scan showed a baby of the right size with a heartbeat and so I was sent away and just told it can be normal and to contact them again if it gets any worse.

The spotting has been on and off now for about 2 weeks. It keeps turning brown and dying off and then starting pink again for a day or so.

It went brown and stopped yesterday just before my scan but I think the internal scan irritated it again as it's been spotting very very lightly again since!

It's driving me mental. I'm glad everything is okay of course but it's not seemed to ease my anxiety very much. I just want it to stop and stay gone!

Did anyone else have this?

Yes, I had unexplained spotting the day before my 12 week scan, then again at 15 weeks, 16weeks and 18 weeks. It was basically pinkish red when I wiped, trailed off to brown but sometimes pink again and lasted 2-3 days. It tended to happen after a day where I was quite active and slightly dehydrated. I had it checked each time and the doctors could only confirm baby was fine but never found a reason for the spotting.

It made the pregnancy very anxiety-ridden but everything turned out fine in the end. I wore black/dark blue knickers for the entire 10 months because I was so afraid of seeing any potential spotting.

Yes due to placenta previa. Was told to be careful, no sports. Did mange to keep working until almost the end. She's now a teenager and very good at ignoring me. Apparently I'm really annoying 🤣🤣🤣

Abbazed · 29/06/2020 21:32

Strict bed rest and no worrying. Don't get up if you can avoid it. Anything that looks live liver is a M/C.

Justanothergeneric · 29/06/2020 21:45

I'm just coming up to third trimester and have bled approximately every week and a half throughout. I've had it bottomed out and it is due to a harmless and not uncommon condition called cervical ectropion. Have a Google - sounds like a possibility for you as well.

KatyN · 29/06/2020 21:55

Another yep. She’s (hopefully) fast asleep upstairs.

SierraHotel · 29/06/2020 22:02

Yes I did, in my second pregnancy. I bled heavily at 6 weeks, spotting on and off and then another big bleed at 16 weeks. Turns out I had a cervical erosion. Baby absolutely fine, very scary though.

ichifanny · 29/06/2020 22:15

Me .. I had 3-4 quite big bleeds up until 16 weeks got scanned each time thinking it was all over and everything ok , they thought it was some sort of heamatoma , daughter is 21 months now .

Rubbleonthedouble1 · 29/06/2020 22:24

Yes, quite a bit in the early days. Everything was perfectly fine xx

CalloftheHaunted · 29/06/2020 22:42

i have twice. 1st was for a few days and ended in an early miscarriage. 2nd was for 10 weeks and was all good in the end, although was worried sick at the time.

Scarlettpixie · 29/06/2020 23:16

I bled at 14 and 15 weeks. The first time I woke to blood on the sheets. Very scary. The second time was more spotting. Had scans both times, baby was fine. Never found a cause. He is 13 now and almost 6 ft 😊

Mascaramademehappy · 30/06/2020 04:31

I did. Bleeding all through the pregnancy and told not to expect a live birth. She is now almost 11 and an absolute sweetheart.

LividLaughLovely · 30/06/2020 04:43

Sounds like my cervical ectropion.

Had a sex and orgasm ban for a while!

Very scary (three previous mc) but currently up feeding baby.

aNiceBigCupOfFuCoffee · 30/06/2020 05:33

I had bleeding up till 10 weeks, at 9 weeks I had such a huge bleed with clots etc. That I genuinely didn't think there could still be a baby. She's 5 months old now and perfect. They never did manage to explain it, a midwife told me that some women just bleed and they never find out why.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 30/06/2020 05:47

I had bleeding with both but turns out pregnancy gives me urinary infections, all the blooming time!

Seahawk80 · 30/06/2020 06:14

I had it with DS, about 18days from 6 weeks then it finally stopped at 9 weeks. Had sex at 10 weeks and it came back! Then had a CVS at 12 weeks and had more but after that had a dream pregnancy. I've had 2 other pregnancies that both sadly ended I'm
tMFR, has bleeding with both but no miscarriage. Think some people just bleed. I know what you mean though, you just can't relax. I'm currently 6+1 and on constant knicker watch!

Fizzysours · 30/06/2020 06:23

I had a very heavy bleed at 13weeks and another at 17 weeks. Hozzy both times. Never found out why. It is honestly so hard as you want answers, and to know what the outcome will be. I had a healthy full term baby but mainly on here to hand hold as unfortunately, I think people with happy outcomes will flock to comment, but it obviously won't affect your outcome. Doctors just can't predict that easily in obstetrics. I found the waiting very hard in that pregnancy but I got through it day by day. Hope you and bump remain ok xx

BeanieBart · 30/06/2020 08:52

Sounds like my cervical ectropion

Thanks, a couple of people have mentioned this. Would this not have appeared on my scan? She did have a good search around 🤦‍♀️

Seems to have stopped for now anyway. I'm desperate for a poo though but too scared to go because I know it'll start it up again! Aghhh.

Early bleeding and internal scan at 7/8 weeks, ds is now 13

Justanothergeneric · 30/06/2020 09:31

Re cervical ectropion, I don't think it would appear on a scan (even an internal one) as it is essentially about a single layer of cells on the cervix being soft cells rather than hard cells. There is no build up of blood that could be seen on an ultrasound. I had a scan with an obstetrician in the first instance and they said 'Great, now we know the baby is fine, so we just need to check on YOUR bits and you need to go to a gynaecologist for that'. The gynaecologist did a colposcopy (no big deal, like a smear test except they have a look with a camera rather than taking a swab).

LunaHardy · 30/06/2020 09:38

I did at 9 weeks for about a week, it was more than just spotting. I was absolutely convinced I was having a MC. She's now a feisty little 2 year old!

Prayingforamiracle20 · 30/06/2020 10:11

Hi,

I’m new here and I have no idea how to start my own thread so sorry for jumping on!

I am going out of my mind, according to my dates which shouldn’t be wrong as I was about to start ivf, I was 6 weeks pregnant on Sunday. The day I started to bleed. I already had a scan booked for yesterday due to my history. The lady said that I’m measuring smaller than my dates at the moment but that can be normal, but also no heartbeat. I’m bleeding as much as a period, the heavy part of your period, at the start. I now have to wait 10 days before I find out if I am still pregnant. I don’t know how I’m going to get through it.
Has anyone else has this? Not able to see heartbeat yet and then it’s fine? I can only find stories of bleeding and then seeing a heartbeat or spotting but I’m experiencing more than spotting

Tunnocks34 · 30/06/2020 10:12

Me! Every month. Sometimes brown, sometimes red, sometimes containing clots.

Had it with all three of my pregnancies

Tunnocks34 · 30/06/2020 10:14

@Prayingforamiracle20 with the bleeding being heavy and no heart beat, I unfortunately don’t think that sounds like a viable pregnancy, and if so I am so so sorry.

Obviously there are cases when this isn’t the case. I did measure small, with no heartbeat and have spotting with my most recent pregnancy but the bleeding initially was light, and didn’t become period like.

SomeBunny · 30/06/2020 10:15

I bled from 6-8 weeks. At first it was just brown spotting but then became bright red. Around four days into the spotting, I had several big gushes of blood, and passed some pretty sizeable clots. I was told to come to the hospital by a midwife as I had soaked through two pads in a short window. I was then told by a very brusque nurse in A&E that I had miscarried, and was told to come back the following afternoon for a scan at the EPU to confirm.

When I went in for that scan, I was so shocked to see a heartbeat! I had another day of heavy bleeding and passed some more big clots, some of which looked like liver, which I had read was a bad sign, before it slowed down and stopped around 8 weeks. The follow up scan at 8 weeks showed she was still there and growing.

Baby is now 9 months old, ahead on all her milestones and generally the light of my life. Of course not all of these stories have a happy ending, and I never found out what caused it, but just wanted to share.

Furrydogmum · 30/06/2020 10:16

I did, almost as soon as I'd tested positive. My Dr told me I'd probably lost my baby and sent me home for the night til the early pregnancy unit opened - what a night 😒 My baby is 22 now, happened again with my second pregnancy and he's 18. I hope everything is ok for you.
