To be worried about having a blood test on Friday and my doctor asking me to call him tomorrow.

I was told that blood tests take a week to come back. I was told if anything shows up, I'd be contacted.
I was being tested as I missed two periods and have been feeling unwell. No chance of pregnancy.
AIBU to be concerned?

I work in a GP surgery usually the GP will call you if something comes back as abnormal. This is not necessarily something to worry about, for example could be that you're a little anaemic and need to take iron supplements.

Ilikeviognier · 29/06/2020 17:41

What have they tested for?

have you done FSH tests if you’ve missed periods?

How old are you?

iolaus · 29/06/2020 17:46

They normally take less than a week, just they say a week to give themselves some leeway

There's something abnormal on the results - however if they were that bad you wouldn't have been contacted today. When I had bloods taken on a Friday which were deranged, the lab rang the GP about 4 hours later who rang me

bridgetreilly · 29/06/2020 17:47

Last time I got an 'urgent' call back, the doctor looked at it and noticed that my something-to-do-with-the-liver levels were slightly high. Normal is up to 30. Mine were 45. "We don't normally recommend any treatment unless it's over 150." Oh. So, not that urgent after all.

So I really wouldn't panic. It just means there's something. It doesn't mean it's anything alarming.

bridgetreilly · 29/06/2020 17:48

Oh yes, don't panic if they say the results are deranged. It just means 'out of range', not completely bonkers!

I'm 27 , yes I saw FSH on the blood test form. Other things too.

Don’t get yourself worked up. I’ve had this before and got myself in a panic. Then spoke to the GP who said the results were normal and he was just letting me know!
Also it could be for further tests as everything came back normal. I’ve had this before too xx

Powerbunting · 29/06/2020 22:53

There's something up, you feel unwell and have missed two periods.

Either the blood tests have given an answer or they are normal and your GP wants to discuss next steps.

Do try not to panic. They say a week because that gives them leeway for a delay in the lab, for an extra bust day before they check results etc etc. Lots of results are actually back the same day, since the next and some take a couple of weeks. It doesn't mean something awful because it is back sooner.

Thanks everyone, I needed that!

It was high prolactin,
Anyone got experience with this?

Did the GP tell you what the next steps are? X

RR369 · 30/06/2020 16:24

I don't think it's anything to worry about. My levels were high but lowered with herbal treatment- Vitex. A friend's were really high and it has been treated very effectively with medication, it will be monitored long term though for her though. Do you know what your levels are?

24kl · 30/06/2020 17:05

I have to lower my anti depressants and take another blood test in a couple weeks to see if that's the cause. And I'm waiting for a ultra sound scan

Yes. Get your thyroid function checked.
