To ask WTF happened to DH and I yesterday? V weird

We have a 7 month old and 3 year old I’m on mat leave and DH is WFH (at dining table as nowhere else) in an intense city type job 9-6. He has an hour lunch and helps when shit hits the fan but he is BUSY all day with zoom meetings and call etc. As soon as work is done he’s a great dad and does his fair share. We have a cleaner every 2 weeks and I’m happy to do most house bits (eg washing) as 3 year old is in nursery 3 days a week so I have time. So all in all- good relationship, fair balance on things.

Obviously for everyone with covid it’s been intense and especially with young kids. Our house isn’t huge and we have a v small paved garden so have missed parks/swimming/kids groups/soft play but are getting on with it of course. Haven’t really seen family as his mum is high risk so a couple of afternoon in garden catch ups and my parents live 300 miles away so have just been on FaceTime. Usually we stay with my parents every month or so and see his mum regularly and she babysits, we have friends close by who we reciprocally babysit etc so we get time and the odd weekend alone.

Yesterday was weird. We both woke up and were exhausted. Like hit over the head with a frying pan could barely keep eyes open exhausted. Often one of us has a hard day after a hard night of wake ups with baby or cumulative of work etc and the other one takes the lead but we were both just shattered. Could barely function to make breakfast, neither could remember when baby was fed last. We went for a walk and were both like the walking dead just in a daze. I also did a food shop and forgot loads of stuff (I had a list!?!?) and just felt like I was walking through treacle. Got back and both kids napping and DH conked out on sofa. All day we were just so so so tired.

Anyway kids down had dinner early night at 9 and today we both woke feeling ok despite me dealing with 2 night wakings and DH Up at 6 with baby. We were both saying how weird and wtf was going on yesterday. I was starting to think we had a carbon monoxide leak or something really bad as we just couldn’t function. I’m quite scared in case it happens tbh.

my gut said "gas leak" soon as i started reading your post OP - and i'm relieved others felt and thought the same.
It means i'm not paranoid or reading too much into what you wrote - and you should take it seriously.

Small gas leaks build up over time and then 'hit' you in the way you described.
Happened to me in my old flat, turned out my cooker grill was silently leaking a tiny amount of gas and it had been going on for a few weeks before i woke up feeling like you.

Op, if you feel weird again open the windows. Get your gas checked asap

I didn't suggest OP got tested, she obviously doesn't meet the criteria at the moment, but this is exactly how I felt for the first few days and I tried to carry on as normal. Then I developed proper covid symptoms which put me in hospital and lasted 8 weeks. The only symptom on day 1 was overwhelming tiredness.

This was us on sunday!!! No idea Op. Fine now!?

Same happened to us OP. We thought the same about carbon monoxide but everything was ok. We both just woke up zonked about a week ago. It was an effort to keep my eyes open and whenever I closed them for a second they’d just burn. Constantly tired, constantly hungry. DP had a siesta as he said he couldn’t keep his eyes open. Honestly felt like I’d been hit by a truck.

I have a feeling it’s our bodies just getting used to this weird way of living, maybe we don’t realise we are sleeping less/more, moving less, looking more at a screen, getting out in the fresh air less, eating more or a 1000 other things....

verybritishproblems · 29/06/2020 22:05

Forgot to say, ever was an effort too. I couldn’t concentrate, loading a dishwasher was too much, I felt out of puff walking up the stairs... next morning, back to normal. Odd.

If it was carbon monoxide, it wouldn't have stopped without anyone repairing the leak?
Did you all sleep well through the two/three nights of hot weather? I didn't and took me a while to catch up.

Have you been taking anti-histamines. I had a period like this and realised i’d accidentally taken the ones that can make you drowsy. I felt like was swimming in glue!

Perhaps there was a local industrial fire nearby.

OP, ignore people of course it’s okay to request a test, they want everyone to get tested and routinely test people to see if the are asymptomatic through work weekly.
It only works in the first 5 days so request one. Unless you’ve lived in a hermetically sealed bunker with no deliveries then of course you could have been exposed.
Everyone will be getting a test with every cough during winter, but that’s okay as that’s what needs to happen.

Agree that aksing for a test is fine, in an ideal world we would literally test everyone every day.

I think it normal to hit the wall just now. I always hope that we just don’t hit the wall on the same day!

Get a test, especially if you had a temperature. You don't necessarily have all the symptoms. It's a global pandemic. It's actually nuts to pretend it's not happening.

How old are you OP? In your 20s? Go to A&E, seriously. 40+ 😂😂 yup.

OP pollen is mahoosive right now and there's always a first time to get hayfever. It can be quite dibalatating.
Other than that it's been an intense time and you've possibly hit exhaustion. Just try and take things easier. It's been a difficult few months for everyone. Be kind to yourselves Flowers

I have Gilbert Syndrome, which is mostly asymptomatic but when it flares up I feel exactly as you described for just one day, then everything seems to kick in and my body resets. However, its very unlikely that you would both have it and both crash on the same day!

The only time we have both felt like this was Hand Foot and Mouth. Never been so tired and unable to function. But assuming you're all in lockdown (I am not in the UK and we are all back to almost normal here) then it would be hard to catch it. We got ours from LO daycare.

I have this too, I have spoken to the GP. It is stress and exhaustion.

Many people have the same thing, it is the crash after the initial stress of the pandemic. The only thing you can do is take in turns to rest, try and take out anything you don't absolutely need to do.

Report
pigeon999 · 30/06/2020 07:13

When I say stress, I mean proper clinical stress and not the term we use readily when things are a little difficult. Real stress has serious side effects, one of them being exhaustion:

My antibody test was positive

@octobersky19

Could it be hayfever? Sounds silly but hayfever gives me the worst hangover feeling ever and everything you described

Me too!

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus I literally put earlier up the thread that 2 people I know had covid and their only symptom was 2 days of extreme tiredness!

For context they are in a team of 5 in the healthcare profession. 2 members of the team came down with symptoms, had a confirmed test and isolated. The other 3 in the team had tests. 1 didnt have it, 2 did. They felt perfectly fine except 2 days of tiredness.

Though FWIW I wouldnt get a test, I would just keep myself to myself for a couple of weeks to be safe

It could be psychological - yesterday was Sunday, perhaps you unconsciously thought 'great, Sunday, we'll have a quiet easy day' and you woke up to as much work as usual with 2 small DCs but brain was still in easy day mode.
Today's Monday so brain back to normal.

@Napqueen1234

Checked the detector today and seems to be fine, kids were absolutely fine and we both feel ok today. I will call and get someone to check it properly ASAP but I don’t feel we need to leave the house at the moment. Perhaps a weird virus?

*@Napqueen1234*
“Perhaps a weird virus”.....like Coronovirus you mean?🙄

@IndiaMay

Not sure why you advise OP not to get a test? If OP and DH test positive they need to isolate immediately, not go to the shops with suspected symptoms. Also, if they test positive then 3 yr old DC should also be kept home from nursery as they could be infected too.
