So I was looking at our laptop history- my partner uses a foreign website to download films - and up popped several different girls 'Twitter' entries...escorts and women in uncompromising positions.
He said these just appear when accessing these sites. Anyone had similar happen ? AIBU to be concerned?

Yeah, websites hosting pirated films often have lots of pop ups stating "there are girls in your area etc".

Although what you're talking about may be different (sorry it's early!), the pop ups etc have never then appeared in my internet history.

Id be concerned about any internet user who doesnt use an adblocker

LuckyAmy1986 · 29/06/2020 07:11

Yes these things do pop up when using that kind of site. Not sure if they would appear in the history though.

Feweradsplease · 29/06/2020 07:14

I should add that neither of us have Twitter accounts making it even more strange.

These always come up when we download films! My partner works in IT and even with ad blockers they always make their way through.

Feweradsplease · 29/06/2020 07:25

Coffeeandteach thanks for letting me know that, and then these would show in Google search history?

Yes, these adverts come up with these sort of websites and yes they appear in the history too.

The majority of people know how to clear their history, or just use incognito mode, when accessing porn so I’m sure he would have done that rather than leave it on a shared laptop. Particularly so if you have a habit of checking the history Confused

BillywigSting · 29/06/2020 08:23

Yes these alway pop up with these types of sites, sometimes in a new tab so it does register in browser history. They're just spam bots and nothing to worry about.

BillywigSting · 29/06/2020 08:24

They also make it through the most stringent ad blockers

Skweeler · 29/06/2020 08:28

Yes to the pop ups on such sites. But Google search history is not the same site so if they appear on the Google search history then I'd say someone has actually searched for those search terms IYSWIM.
