Facebook page inciting hate

Posting here for traffic.

We live in a small village on the edge of a small town. We are one of a minority of black families.

The local community spotted page (anything and everything goes page) is posting mainly anti blm stuff multiple times per day! I can see this is done by the clearly racist mods to whip up hatred and incite hatred in the responses. I’d sent in some stuff to explain blm but they’ve refused to post. Some of the response to the posts are just awful.

I know l should just delete the page but I’m raging and FB never does anything! I’m just feeling very vulnerable and although we’ve lived here a long time, despite a couple of issues it’s been fine. I’m just now very aware of how much some people on the town clearly don’t like black people. I’m worried for my teen boys!

Any advice on how to deal with this page? Would the local police be able to do anything?

I've had to leave our community Facebook pages because of the exact same thing. Facebook report buttons are worth precisely nothing and they seem to almost promote those posts which contain hate speech, encouraging attention and comments.

I'm more surprised at the underlying racism that still goes on - of course I knew there was a small amount but the last two or three weeks have opened my eyes to the disgusting small minds of local folk.

There's a group on Facebook who collect evidence of racist posts and sends them to employers. I think that's possibly the best way to handle posts like this.

@AtaMarie

That's awful - especially that everyone is joining in, making it look like a consensus. I imagine anyone with an opposing view is too intimidated to post.

So sorry, OP. I'm angry for you.

From the OP it looks like the mods just don't accept posts with different perspectives.

OP if they are inciting hate, report to 101. I am not in any groups with anything like this so no idea about the normal fb response times to complaints but this, should not be allowed / accepted.

Honestly if I knew my neighbours had all been contributing to this I would probably look to move, I couldn't just get over it.

Could you go to the local press? The negative publicity might spur FB and the police into action.

Thanks again Flowers

Lots of great advice which I’m going to act on.

I do know that most in the town won’t have these views but l guess I’ve become Michael more aware over the last few weeks just how truly awful some people can be. Even on this post some people have voted it as unreasonable!

Pre kids l would have been more vocal but l have to think about them now so certainly don’t want to draw any attention to us for their sake. They are very happy with great friendship groups, are doing really well in school and compete on lots of sports so want to keep them in a positive mindset. I know there are more good people than not and they have tried to write replies stating it’s wrong but their posts get quickly deleted. I’m sure that lots of those with far right views may be be drawn to the page so probably won’t be local.

Thanks again!

No more advice than already given, but wanted to say these local "spotted" pages seem to be largely horrific and an excuse to air disgusting views towards people (usually BAME, LGBTQ, living in poverty, suffering from mental illness etc) behind the veil of anonymity.

How awful for you. Spotted pages near me are a cesspit of bigotry and I've come off the worst ones. As your family sounds settled and happy apart from this, would it be worth blocking the racists? You now know it's out there but do you need to keep being upset by it? I don't think moving is the answer as you don't know your family would be any better off. I'm so sorry that all this goes on but please don't let a pig-ignorant minority spoil your family life Flowers

Definitely call the police. One of our local Facebook groups started posting racist posts mainly by the admin, anyone who tried to challenge got removed from the group. The police have paid the admin person a visit so they will act.

And the page is no more.
