AIBU to ask about parking up a campervan in non camping site places...

We have a campervan for a few days in August. The plan had been to go with friends to a campsite we often go to; but the site is really big and will likely be busy. I don't feel like going there.

So, can you suggest places where we can go and park up? Or where I can look for more remote/wild options? I literally have no idea.

I live in the SE.

Thanks so much in advance.

Wikd camping is illegal in the UK.

If it's a motorhome, ie with its own toilet and shower on board, you could join Britstops which gives you access to pubs, farmshops etc where you can stay for free. Otherwise it's campsites.

Don't

Oh, I'm not going to just turn up anywhere! I'm not stupid or looking for trouble. I just want to know what to do with a campervan as I've never had one. Now I know it's just campsites.

It's illegal, not even us gypsies are allowed, who'd have thought it eh?

Sundiamond · 28/06/2020 21:21

@Devlesko - I actually had no idea it wasn't allowed.

Check the app Park4night if you just want to find somewhere for an overnighter or if it's campsites you want search on UK campsite.co.uk

Wikd camping is illegal in the UK.

No it isn't
It is legal in Scotland. Scotland us part of the UK

Veterinari

I was just about to say the same thing!

Wild camping is legal in Scotland, I've wild camped in the Highlands, and wonderful it is too.

“True” wild camping doesn’t involve a vehicle, though. The right of access doesn’t include vehicular access (in Scotland). Many places in Scotland have a ban on overnight parking. I know the vast majority of people know this already so am probably preaching to the choir!

Have a look on searchforsites, really good website also have an app.
Shows small sites, parking places, pubs that allow park ups overnight and loads of other things.
Also if you look at joining the caravanavndcamping club they have temporary holiday sites all over which I believe are starting up in August (not confirmed but check on their website)
