Deer leg in garden

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:11

I get my dogs deer legs to chew on (complete with hooves and hair). As it’s been hot my dog has been off her food and I gave her a deer leg on Friday to chew on. She carried it around the garden then tried to bury it in DH veg pots so I told her off. She then carried it to the back of the garden and pushed it through a small hole in the fence landing in next doors garden. They were sitting out in the garden at the time and the woman screamed and ran inside and her husband just said “what the fuck is that?!” I went over to the fence and apologised and explained it was the dog. He asked me where I got it from and if I make a habit of killing and chopping up animals!! I explained they are bought from the pet shop. He apologised but added “it’s disgusting though, the wife is in a right state”. I asked him if we could have it back and he refused to touch it so I had to go around to their house and get it myself (they don’t live next door, they live down the street but their garden backs onto ours.

I retrieved it and told DH that dog was to have no more until she got her appetite back.

Well she’s only gone and done the same thing with a big fucking black fury cows ear that DH gave her. They’re going to go ballistic when they see it.

AIBU to insist that DH goes for it this time?

@rosiejaune

Our (vegan) dog gets raw carrots and broccoli as snacks instead. I doubt the neighbours would have been upset by those...
Well no, what are you getting at? Confused
vdbfamily · 28/06/2020 14:48

that made me laugh out loud op. Thanks for cheering up my Sunday. Yes... block the hole!!

AtomicRabbit · 28/06/2020 14:48

That's disgusting. Fix your hole and stop inflicting your dog and its habits on other people. It's fine to own a dog. It's not fine to inflict your dog and random body parts on other people. Not everyone loves dogs. I would be annoyed to have a second piece of weird animal flesh appear in my garden.

AppleJane · 28/06/2020 14:55

Put your tin hat on rosiejaune! Unless you can be bothered to explain the difference between herbivores, omnivores and carnivores.

Soubriquet · 28/06/2020 14:59

Vegan dog?!!!

A dog can’t be a fucking vegan. They are scavengers which means they require meat.

Only dogs who are allergic to meat should be vegan, and even then, it’s under a vets supervision

@FurForksSake

That site will give me nightmares. Think the pig snouts are too much!

If you're inflicting a vegan diet on your dog, you shouldn't be keeping one as a pet. That's animal cruelty.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/06/2020 15:06

People who force their dogs and cats and other naturally non vegan animals, go vegan should have their animals take off them. It should be officially considered animal abuse.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/06/2020 15:06

If you want non meat eating animal, buy a fucking rabbit (just don't let it have young ones. They sometimes eat them)

This!

Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, hell, go for a goat or a horse if you want a big one.

But don’t force a dog or a cat to be vegan. It’s cruel

lovemelongtime · 28/06/2020 15:11

Can't stop laughing - had to share this one with my DH too - hilarious, I can just imagine them.

LastRoloIsMine · 28/06/2020 15:11

Can dogs choose be vegan?
Are wolves vegan or lions? Do they only eat neat as there are not enough vegan take away on their area?

AlexaShutUp · 28/06/2020 15:12

Animals eat other animals.

That isn't news, but it's one of the reasons why I never have either a cat or a dog as a pet - I wouldn't want the meat in my house or garden.

I have no issue at all with what other people eat, or with what they choose to feed their animals, but I expect them to respect my choices, just as I respect theirs.

Obviously, the dog hasn't done anything wrong, he is just being a dog. I do think the owner should have been more considerate.

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/06/2020 15:15

My dogs all eat raw, they get some revolting looking stuff at times.

I'd rather these feet and legs, ears, claws, tracheas etc, went for healthy dog food than were overprocessed and added into tins or chews, or were incinerated and wasted!

Most of my friends raw feed, even my vegan friends, because dogs would not choose to be vegan!

Gogogadgetarms · 28/06/2020 15:15

I’d probably start scanning the local Facebook community pages OP... you know that is where the photo will end up.

See, this is what an intelligent adult does.

MitziK · 28/06/2020 15:17

@sonjadog

My dog once came home with a deer's leg like that. She was most put out that I wouldn't let her bring it into the house.

Can you not get the dog to fetch back the cow´s ear? Or hoke it out of the garden in some way? I would try to remove it without them noticing, block the hole immediately, and then pretend like it never happened.

Oh, can you imagine - carefully hooking the ear with a stick and slowly dragging it back to the hole.

---and then the neighbour walks into the garden and sees something moving in the grass....

Malbecblooms · 28/06/2020 15:19

I thinks vegan dog is far weirder and more horrifying than a deer leg.

gettingusedtothelimelight · 28/06/2020 15:20

God half the people on here are going to explode when they discover what a pizzle is 😂😂😂

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 28/06/2020 15:22

YABU - thank God you are not my neighbour.
That’s disgusting. Disgusting. Disgusting!! 😱😱😱

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/06/2020 15:22

Bloody hell!

What is wrong with some people?

My dog loves those deer legs, cow, pig, lamb and deer ears with and without fur, big squares of mainly dried deerskin, a bit bloody.thoze, tails of cow, lamb and deer, sinews with hooves on the end, all sorts of bits of animal.

They are far less processed, have no additives and are better for teeth and gut - fur on helps with working.

Yes, fix the hole, but don't give up the treats because some people are overly squeamish.

AppleJane · 28/06/2020 15:23

The reactions on here are bizarre and way out of sync with each other as to what is considered 'hilarious' and what is considered 'cruel'. Vegan diets can stop and reverse many health conditions but there's no money for the big companies to shout about it, until now maybe, even meat companies are grabbing for the vegan pound.

Polkadotpjs · 28/06/2020 15:24

I feel a bit sick but know my new puppy would love them somehow. What's the least recognisable of the natural treats? The word trachea made mine close up but I don't even eat meat so I'm soft!!

Redpriestandmozart · 28/06/2020 15:25

Gosh, I've seen worse hung up in the butchers growing up! There would be half sides of cattle hanging on the wall as you went in not to mention a plethora of body parts behind the counter! We have fed raw for years, nobody has got sick in the house, dogs or people. I've just handed the dog some chicken feet! It's what dogs eat, it's natural and healthy. I would imagine your dog was simply hiding a high value treat to enjoy later! Oh and to add fuel to the fire, we're vegan but out dogs eat their natural diet.
