Deer leg in garden

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:11

I get my dogs deer legs to chew on (complete with hooves and hair). As it’s been hot my dog has been off her food and I gave her a deer leg on Friday to chew on. She carried it around the garden then tried to bury it in DH veg pots so I told her off. She then carried it to the back of the garden and pushed it through a small hole in the fence landing in next doors garden. They were sitting out in the garden at the time and the woman screamed and ran inside and her husband just said “what the fuck is that?!” I went over to the fence and apologised and explained it was the dog. He asked me where I got it from and if I make a habit of killing and chopping up animals!! I explained they are bought from the pet shop. He apologised but added “it’s disgusting though, the wife is in a right state”. I asked him if we could have it back and he refused to touch it so I had to go around to their house and get it myself (they don’t live next door, they live down the street but their garden backs onto ours.

I retrieved it and told DH that dog was to have no more until she got her appetite back.

Well she’s only gone and done the same thing with a big fucking black fury cows ear that DH gave her. They’re going to go ballistic when they see it.

AIBU to insist that DH goes for it this time?

Not goady, just don't buy into big pharma. Read Dr Greger and his fantastic team highlighting studies showing health benefits of plants - but there's no money to be made for the big boys because we can all grow our own broccoli.

Type 2 diabetes can be reversed by diet but so many are given medication and eventually surgery. It doesn't need to be this way and would save nhs money.

RedRed9 · 29/06/2020 09:00

Type 2 diabetes being helped by diet is hardly comparable to all illnesses that require medication @AppleJane

GenevaMaybe · 29/06/2020 09:08

I can't read a single word further in a post after "big pharma". Such bollocks.

AppleJane · 29/06/2020 09:13

Doctors are not trained in nutrition. It's not just your blood sugar levels effected by your diet. We accept that alcohol and cigarettes effect the body but suggest people change their diet for other illnesses and they have a melt down. Please remember my original comment was in response to the euthanised dogs.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/06/2020 09:21

Every idiot knows that plants are good for us🤷🏻 Balanced diets is the healthies thing person can do for their body. That's nothing new.

However, if you want to be shit about heart medicine, let me remind you that stroke medicine too is tested on animals (and people) so you have no high ground here. Absolutely none.

AppleJane · 29/06/2020 09:29

All I've said is prevention is better than cure. It's not controversial.

May09Bump · 29/06/2020 09:30

Made me laugh so much - thanks! Send OH round with flowers, say would you mind me checking the garden for anything else the dog might of pushed through and you are fixing it today. Apologise for the shock.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/06/2020 09:30

Sorry for bringing the thread tone down @SquishyBones!

Back to your smartarse dog and the, hope not too dear, deer legs😂

Btw you can buy calf and lamb feet in some ethnic butchers.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 29/06/2020 09:47

Oh this has made me laugh, thank's OP.

Poor neighbours. Although I am now wondering if I can get a deer leg and persuade Ddog to do the same, it might make my neighbour fix his fence!

I only give dog natural treats, he is waiting excitedly at the front door when I've been to the butchers and brought back a pigs ear...I did raise an eyebrow at the fluffy rabbit feet in the pet shop but now I have discovered the fur is a natural wormer! I'm off to get some.

cupoftea84 · 29/06/2020 09:59

OP people including your neighbours are being a bit daft especially if they eat meat.
The only reason this might bother me is if my toddler had access to it and that'd be a hygiene concern.
I've had dogs before that love bringing back rotten animals when out in the woods. At least the legs weren't rotten.

Best thread ever Grin

SerendipityJane · 29/06/2020 10:09

Also (as always) amazed at the meat eaters who are fine with it as long as it doesn't look like an animal.

Browsing in a supermarket in Iceland (the country) a few years back, I was amused to see they indicated the various sections of the meat aisles with cartoons of happy smiling cows, sheep, chickens ...

Keepwarminthisroom · 29/06/2020 10:10

So has the hole been blocked or has OP's dog managed to shove a sheep's eye through it now 🤪

SquishyBones · 29/06/2020 10:21

The hole has been fixed but dog is now very distressed and trying to dig under the fence. I think she thinks all her stuff is still there 😩

Your dog sounds stressed and frustrated- how much exercise does she get?

O that's tricky, especially because you can't demonstrate to her that it isn't there.

My dog would be similar OP. He will scrabble and stare at the sofa, whine at me etc for as long as it takes for me to retrieve one of his tennis balls that has rolled under there (He has abut 30 other tennis balls that he has picked up on walks, but of course he always wants the one he has just lost.)

longwayoff · 29/06/2020 11:16

Hmm. Time to distract the dog. Buy half a cow for him to gnaw on and leave in your garden for him.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 29/06/2020 11:36

Just been doggie pick and mix shop. Got some right delights. Will put photos up when home . Lots of legs and ears

Crockodoodle · 29/06/2020 11:48

@longwayoff think a horse head would send a better message.

Greywind1523 · 29/06/2020 11:51

This thread made me laugh. First the vision of the woman’s hysteria at seeing a deer leg coming into her garden, and then all the outraged posters who’ve never heard of natural dog treats.

BurtsBeesKnees · 29/06/2020 11:57

Grin this made me roar, I bet the neighbour shit herself and thinks you've got a rabid dog who eats whole animals...

By the way I give my dogs pigs ears to chew, not quite in the same league tho

longwayoff · 29/06/2020 12:04

Fair point @Crockodoodle, I've got my fingers crossed that your user name doesn't indicate a new kind of designer dog or both might be requiredSmile

Poor thing😂 Try to "hide" the treat in there. She will find it and should relax a bit. She knows they are in that area.
