Deer leg in garden

I get my dogs deer legs to chew on (complete with hooves and hair). As it’s been hot my dog has been off her food and I gave her a deer leg on Friday to chew on. She carried it around the garden then tried to bury it in DH veg pots so I told her off. She then carried it to the back of the garden and pushed it through a small hole in the fence landing in next doors garden. They were sitting out in the garden at the time and the woman screamed and ran inside and her husband just said “what the fuck is that?!” I went over to the fence and apologised and explained it was the dog. He asked me where I got it from and if I make a habit of killing and chopping up animals!! I explained they are bought from the pet shop. He apologised but added “it’s disgusting though, the wife is in a right state”. I asked him if we could have it back and he refused to touch it so I had to go around to their house and get it myself (they don’t live next door, they live down the street but their garden backs onto ours.

I retrieved it and told DH that dog was to have no more until she got her appetite back.

Well she’s only gone and done the same thing with a big fucking black fury cows ear that DH gave her. They’re going to go ballistic when they see it.

AIBU to insist that DH goes for it this time?

@everderose would you like to be killed humanely so I could eat you? Ever seen what happens in a slaughter house in the UK? See lots of pigs out and about in fields in the UK do you? And chickens? Ever seen what happens to day old Male chicks? Seen female cows crying out for their babies? Really fucking humane. Don't talk wet.

MiniMum97 · 28/06/2020 16:35

I hope all the people (incl your neighbours) who have made the "I am horrified" comments are vegetarian or vegan?

If not where the fuck do you think your meat ones from and why are you more horrified at seeing a leg, ear or snout than a nice bit of steak?!?

People are weird.

MiniMum97 · 28/06/2020 16:36

Agree though just fix the hole. It's not worth the stress.

Sparklesocks · 28/06/2020 16:39

Hope your DH fixed the hole OP and the neighbour’s garden continues to be leg free Grin

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 28/06/2020 16:40

Please stop hyjacking this thread.

It's not about being a vegan or eating plant based foods.

Its about an omnivore dog being a cheeky little bugger and hiding it's natural meaty treats in the neighbors garden.

Leflic · 28/06/2020 16:40

You know that all wild animals die “inhumanely” though? There’s no gentle passing like humans have developed.
They die slowly through disease or starve to death or something else kills them usually with no thought about a quick painless death. It’s natural but it’s not pretty.

AppleJane · 28/06/2020 16:40

Day old male chicks going through the mascerator alive. That's one video that will stick with me Confused

VistaOfFreedom · 28/06/2020 16:41

Hilarious. And what a lucky dog, do you buy them online?

EasternDailyStress · 28/06/2020 16:41

Not at all bothered by deer legs, but would be mightily pissed off that your dog could get into my garden. YABVU to let that happen.

LST · 28/06/2020 16:42

@Leflic humans too..they fie slowly through old age for illness. It's only pet animals that are given any dignity in death.

AppleJane · 28/06/2020 16:43

@GetawayfromthatWelshtart actually it's about a neighbour being a cheeky bugger and not filling her hole in a timely manner. People finding animal parts hilarious (depending on the animal) is an aside.

LST · 28/06/2020 16:45

@getawayfromthat not hijacking at all. The cognitive dissonance is astonishing. Its pathetic so many people are disgusted by a leg in a garden that a dog has chewed.. that their kids would be upset by it, but they've eaten a carved up bird for their dinner today.. weird.

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 28/06/2020 16:46

Ever watched someone die from Cancer @Leflic?

Fucking horrible.

Pet animals get to pass gently into the night.

Most human go silently screaming in agony so kindly shut the fuck up.

AppleJane · 28/06/2020 16:49

Like visiting McDonald's on the way home from the zoo Grin

How long before someone evokes Godwin's law?

Nearly wet myself at that first sentence but maybe that's just my mind 😂

AppleJane · 28/06/2020 16:53

@Cluckycluck it must be your filthy mind HmmWinkGrin

Veterinari · 28/06/2020 16:56

Let's not get hysterical now @MyPersona

It was neither rotting nor multiple times. It's simply an animal leg. Once. Just like the meat you buy is part of an animal and most people accept that on their property without a song and dance.

Why the need for exaggeration and disgust?

Littlebyerockerboo · 28/06/2020 17:03

Op, i got a few pages into the thread and didn't bother with the rest as it stopped being about your lovely dog and started being a debate about diet.

I love vegan food. I was veggie for years, i always try to eat little meat, and ive made easy swaps out to vegan food...

HOWEVER my 3 big dogs are raw fed and i would absolutely give them the deers leg as you have, and bless your dog for putting it in a safe place- she viewed it as a "treat for later"
Bless.

If it helps my GSD & Great dane have gone off thier raw food in the heat too. My Irish wolfhound is never off her food but the heat is making a difference to so many dogs appetites!

Nutrigrainygoodness · 28/06/2020 17:05

I got my mums dog the most horrible looking things I could find for Christmas. Rabbit ears, puffed pigs nose, pizzle sticks The dog thought all his Christmasses had come at once.
I'm going to get him a deer leg this year 🤣

bitchwitch · 28/06/2020 17:06

rock on squishy
have had a wolf and now a staffie both love to share their treats
staffie likes antlers and marrow bones
when a dog brings a mouth full of food over to you drops it on the ground at your feet then proceeds to munch, they are following a natural instinct that goes back to wolves who always share their food with the pack/half chewed raw to share with the pups
they also will swallow a mouse or other tasty and drop it in the den live to teach the pups to hunt.
maybe yours was trying to share theirs ?

God, this thread shows just how detached we now are from food in our society Shock

Sounds like your dog has a proper diet, not filled with crappy fillers and additives. Good for you OP. But definitely fix the fence Grin
