Windchime-gate!

Name change for this.

My next door neighbours aren't bad neighbours, but my gosh do they get on my tits. They're in the garden from the crack of dawn until late at night, always working on some project or other, with drilling, sawing etc. They frequently park across our shared drive so I have to go and ask them to move if I want to go out. They've got dogs that don't bark much, but always do three or four times at 6am and I can never get back to sleep. Basically, they aren't particularly unreasonable (other than maybe the car thing) but I just find them irritating. It's made me realise that my next house will need to be a lot more private. Anyway, the other day I bought a wind chime. I know they're controversial, but just the one is surely acceptable? But neighbour has posted on our local Facebook group "is it just me or are wind chimes really antisocial" Hmm
No idea why she didn't just come round and talk to me about it. I feel like saying something now about all the things they do that piss me off! Is this my chance, or am I being too sensitive?

I'm extremely petty and would just comment on her post...

"Not half as anti-social as neighbours continously parking across my driveway. I also believe letting dogs bark at 6AM and DIY noises from dawn til dusk is anti-social"

I don't usually believe in the high road Grin

I'd reply back "given this is what i tolerate on a regular basis, i have to disagree....."
They don't give a shit about the noise they make in their own garden that affects others so they can lump it.
I wouldn't be taking my windchimes down and i'd be giving them a frank response back

slipperywhensparticus · 28/06/2020 15:44

Sorry if it irritates your barking dogs or constant DIY ps can you move your car please I need to go out

puzzledpiece · 28/06/2020 15:48

I love wind chimes and would fill my garden with them, so I must be very anti social! I only have a tiny one though

goingoverground · 28/06/2020 15:53

Love how many people hate wind chimes but think that playing music in your garden is okay.
I personally hate the sound of children screeching at each other (far more than windchimes) but it's just part of living near other people sadly.

I love wind chimes but the difference is wind chimes are there 24/7, it's more akin to playing music in your garden at 2am.

Minikievs · 28/06/2020 16:06

I absolutely loathe windchimes, so much so that a couple of years ago I got drunk and cut them down off my neighbours tree in the middle of the night. I wouldn't recommend anyone doing that of course but it did give me a decent nights sleep for the first time in months (possibly due to the wine)
You should speak to them about parking across the drive, but possibly the dogs are just barking when the owners get up, which I don't think they can necessarily control

BlusteryLake · 28/06/2020 16:12

The passive aggressive FB post is bad on their part. They should speak to you about it directly. But wibd chimes are really, really annoying and anti-social. I hate them. My neighbours have one that wakes us up in the night. Do you at least remove it in the evening?

Gazelda · 28/06/2020 16:13

My neighbour potters noisily in his garden all day, every day. 7am start. Power washes at least 3 times a week. Puts food out for wildlife when he knows there is a rat problem (has told me he's caught 5 recently). Is endlessly using power tools. Bubbles noisily in his hot tub. Puts cones out to reserve his place on the public roadway. And has wind chimes.

As much as the rest annoys the heck out of me, the wind chimes are his worst crime.

wowfudge · 28/06/2020 16:16

Our NDNs have windchimes. I've fantastised about cutting all the threads in the damn things. Luckily our living room and our bedroom are far enough away from them. I would be very tempted to post something pa on Facebook myself if I were you.

RB68 · 28/06/2020 16:22

I think I would just respond - far better than barking dogs at 6am

I'm currently sitting listening to a very annoying wind chime my neighbour put up about a month ago. Chimes most of the night too. Thankfully I'm a pretty heavy sleeper but it drive DP mad.

I think my neighbour put it in there to stop my cat going in their garden. If it works for her, then good on her. It's not as bad a sound as the other neighbours garden parties till 1am so I'll let it go!

As a whole though, windchimes are annoying at night.

LycraLovingLass · 28/06/2020 18:48

Maybe reply underneath, suprised you can hear it over the dog barking.

Don't really fo that. Take it down, they make a noise all night and its really unfair.

DaphneFanshaw · 28/06/2020 18:55

Am I alone in actually like the tinkle of a wind chime ?
My neighbours have them and I take a bit of comfort in hearing the noise of other people’s things, I don’t feel alone but it reminds me that there are people around me and I like that.

Seeing as she has gone down the passive aggressive route, I think you should respond in the same way.

Heronwatcher · 28/06/2020 18:57

Did your granny never tell you that two wrongs don’t make a right! At least drilling and banging serve a purpose! Windchimes are the most dreadful noise- and may well be heard by every single one of your neighbours, morning noon and night. At least find a way to disable them when you’re not in the garden.

user1493494961 · 28/06/2020 19:22

Love a windchime.

Northernlass99 · 28/06/2020 20:14

They sound like quite good neighbours compared to some of the horrors you hear about on here. Our neighbours were also always out it the garden swearing (I mean like really foul language), smoking and flicking the butts over our fence, playing loud music until 3am. They have moved and our new neighbours are doing diy projects and I love it!
