To wonder if Corona will affect Hogwarts?

Do you think the children in Hogwarts are home schooling? I'm just reading about how they cram all the first years into a room before they put on the sorting hat. Do you think first year traditions will change? No train, no boats no hat?
They have a sanatorium at Hogwarts although it seems to be mainly populated with people who have faced mortal danger or broken bones, they definitely do not have as many regular sick people as Mallory Towers. Although St Mungos specialises in tropical medicine.
So ianbu, of course the Wizarding world would be affected by a world wide virus
Iabu Wizarding magic is beyond the realms of us muggles so they already have a cure.

Wind up, heatstroke or gin?

ClaudiaWankleman · 27/06/2020 21:18

Wizards would certainly be affected - didn’t someone have a cold in one of the books? But they would have effective symptomatic treatments - I’m not sure if they pursue preventative medicine.

SquishySquirmy · 27/06/2020 21:19

Magic bubbles for all.
Like zorbing balls, but better and more magical surrounding each pupil. I suppose magic would have to pass through the bubbles along with oxygen so you could still cast spells.on each other.

SunflowerProsecco · 27/06/2020 21:20

I blame Slytherin for this whole mess.

sonjadog · 27/06/2020 21:21

I think they probably put a shield thing around Hogwarts like they did in before the final battle and are safe inside.

Crockodoodle · 27/06/2020 21:24

GrannyBags certainly not a windup, my son isn't eleven until the 31st July so we are hoping that we will receive the letter before then, so I am concerned he will miss out on the first year rite of passage.

If they bubbled all pupils and teachers for 2 weeks at the start of term, then they could carry on as normal after. So the sorting ceremony would be delayed but not cancelled. Anyone entering Hogwarts would have to bubble for 2 weeks but ould still socialise with everyone else so it wouldn't be too bad.
Food would apparate into the bubbles at mealtimes.

We're still working on who is most at risk from Covid-19. Certain underlying medical conditions, being BAME, being older... but what's the interaction with magical blood? Are muggleborns more or less susceptible than purebloods? What about those who are mixed?

I can imagine a situation where the muggleborn witches and wizards are kept at home because their families are shielding, but the purebloods all go back to Hogwarts because they think they're invincible. That basically means Hogwarts is being run by Slytherins right now.

You're welcome.

wheresmyhairytoe · 27/06/2020 21:26

They'll obviously have protective shield spells they can use. On the off chance of someone getting it Slughorn could whip up a potion to cure it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/06/2020 21:26

If they can re grow bones, I’m sure they can deal with covid. I’m sure it will be ok, but their safeguarding leaves a lot to be desired so I’d be more concerned by that.

CluelessBaker · 27/06/2020 21:27

Madam Pomfrey would have everyone sorted in a jiffy with some pepperup potion.

TitianaTitsling · 27/06/2020 21:27

Increase in use of sheilding charms?

7Days · 27/06/2020 21:29

Madam Sprout will have some magic plants, and Snape will brew up a magical potion. Dumbledore will pour his whole might into the incantation over it. 3 branches of magic, working together.

The Minister for Magic will step out of a portrait in Boris' office and tell him a vaccine has been found.

Kingsley will modify a few scientist's memories and they will believe they invented it themselves.

Arthur Weasley will look on in fondness at the sight of muggles indulging in their little rituals of rolling up their sleeves and being jabbed with what is in essence a tiny sharp wand.

Voldemort rises again.

Aragog · 27/06/2020 21:29

Most of the children don't appear to leave the school beyond the grounds for weeks at a time. They don't empower to have parents visit in term time and there doesn't appear to be a half term. There doesn't appear to be that many invited guests coming in. So, if they all have a period of isolation either before or just after arriving it'll be a fairly safe place - for a change!! - during Covid I'd have thought. They'd probably have stopped the visits to Hogsmead for the years above Year 7 for now though.

Aragog · 27/06/2020 21:31

Empower?! Should be appear.

If they have found a spell to treat or reverse the virus it's a shame they're aren't sharing this with their muggle friends!

They could probably have their own personal invisible shields around them if they need to visit muggle towns and cities.

Buzzfrightyears · 27/06/2020 21:31

It won’t be affecting them. There’s a Bubblehead charm (mentioned in the Triwizard Tournament in the Goblet of Fire book) which they’d use, obviously!

Crockodoodle · 27/06/2020 21:31

Oh my! The minister for magic talking to Boris.

Hermione woujd have come up with a plan by now

ellesbellesxxx · 27/06/2020 21:33

Bubblehead charm.

ellesbellesxxx · 27/06/2020 21:34

@Buzzfrightyears you got there just before me 👊

HunterAngel · 27/06/2020 21:34

They’ll just use Bubble Head charms, no need to worry about PPE when you’ve got magic!

bluebluezoo · 27/06/2020 21:36

Maybe they will do a chalet school type year in the Tyrol?

Lots of healthy mountain air, skiing, learning languages, sanitorium and lots of muggle doctors next door to treat this muggle disease.

I’m sure Miss Annersley will welcome them and their funny little ways! It is a very multicultural school after all.

amusedtodeath1 · 27/06/2020 21:36

They're probably having a right laff at us muggles self isolating and what not, I'm sure they've got it all under control.Smile

iVampire · 27/06/2020 21:46

Madams Pomfrey will have a potion for it

And the Gryffindors will establish that it is a piece of Voldemort muggle-baiting.

So when The Dark Lord is defeated it will vanish and there shall be an obliteration spell so none of us have any recollection of it at all,
