Neighbours having a massive party

VoldemortsMaid · 27/06/2020 16:56

More of a WIBU.

Totally prepared to be told I'm being ridiculous.

My neighbours (detached house but fences joined) are having a massive party. There must be about 15 folk in the garden and if they were just sitting chatting or whatever it wouldn't really bother me that much but the noise they're making OMG. Screaming, shouting, the music is blaring.

I've never ever done this before but I'm honestly considering calling the 101 non emergency number or making a report online or something?

I just don't understand why the music has to be so loud and why they couldn't just wait the extra 2/3 weeks until extended gatherings were allowed (in Scotland).

Thoughts?

It's only 5pm and 15 people is really not "massive". If it was 40 people at midnight then fair enough but I think you should be a bit tolerant at this time on a summer weekend.

SecretNutellaFix · 27/06/2020 17:29

In Scotland the maximum number allowed to meet up outside is 8, from 2 households only and still maintaining at least a 2m distance.

I have a similar situation brewing, in Wales, so I'll likely be calling 101 myself later if more people show up. The music is so loud we can't hear our television while we are sitting in the same room. All windows are shut to try and dull the noise.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 27/06/2020 17:38

If you're pissed off at the music and it's a one off in the day then I think YABU. If you're pissed off that they are breaking social distancing rules and want to report them then you can though if you think they will find out it's you (eg no other houses around) then personally I wouldn't bother for the sake of neighbourly relations. Realistically cases in Scotland are now so low that drastically it's very unlikely this gathering will spread it, I'd have been pissed off at the start of lockdown but having a party a week or so early at the end of 3 months of lockdown wouldn't bother me personally

LST · 27/06/2020 17:40

Have you asked them to turn it down? Why would the 1st port of call be report to 101?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/06/2020 17:42

Well because they shouldn’t be having large gatherings?! Have you all forgotten we’re in a pandemic?

ilovesooty · 27/06/2020 17:45

@LST

Have you asked them to turn it down? Why would the 1st port of call be report to 101?
I wondered that as well.
bestservices · 27/06/2020 17:47

15 is hardly a massive party. Have you asked them to turn the music down?

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 27/06/2020 17:47

If you have young children ask them to turn the music down, or gate crash so you can give the police a proper report.

EpilepsyMum4 · 27/06/2020 17:47

The police have encourages to report such in Scotland so I would 🤣

WorraLiberty · 27/06/2020 17:48

You've missed out a very important part of your OP and that's whether you've asked them to turn it down?

Bluntness100 · 27/06/2020 17:48

Fifteen is hardly massive for goodness sake. And you only want to report them because the noise is pissing you off.

As you’ve over exaggerated the size of the party I’m not sure you’re also not over exaggerating the noise they are making.

Destroyedpeople · 27/06/2020 17:50

It's not a 'massive party' is it?

VoldemortsMaid · 27/06/2020 17:54

Fair enough but for the size of the garden there's a lot of people inside and out. I'm not standing taking a head count so could easily be more than 15.

I haven't asked them to turn it down. They aren't very friendly and don't speak to us. It's a row of houses and all the other neighbours are lovely.

I can see IABU though so I'll just put up with it for tonight!

If they aren't ones for this sort of thing regularly then I would ignore it for now unless they really get unbearable. Pandemic or no pandemic.

We are just emerging from lockdown, even though Scotland is a little bit later than England etc. People have had enough of enforced isolation.

WhatWouldDominicDo · 27/06/2020 18:06

It was 5pm when you posted!

Everyone is entitled to a garden party now and then, unless this a regular occurrence YABU.
YWNBU if it was midnight, but 101 is a last resort, surely!

weathervane1 · 27/06/2020 18:08

Take a couple of bottles round and ask if you can join the party from a safe distance?

Hobnobswantshernameback · 27/06/2020 18:11

I thought you were going to say there were 50 people there
I get 15 isn't ideal but really?
We have students three doors down from us
There's only six of them and their taste in music is shitGrin thankfully they'll be off for the summer soon
We had a hot tub for hire a couple of weeks ago for a few days and expect we were a bit noisy
Give and take eh when you live among people

Almostfifty · 27/06/2020 18:20

It's about to piss down everywhere in Scotland, so hopefully they'll move indoors.

InFiveMins · 27/06/2020 18:21

It's not late, and is it a one off? The police wouldn't even bother to come out so it's really not worth you reporting it.

whiplashy · 27/06/2020 18:42

YABU!
