Anyone else?

I hayebit because it seems to be bandied around the Internet by right wingers who wheel it out to anyone who might try to produce a counter debate.

Snowflake to me describes a certain behaviour that is oversensitive and self indulgenent. It's tricky when a term gets cooped by people being unpleasant in general and just becomes a lazy insult. But these things always do. If a word is specific slang it gets generalised. I do see snowflake flung back plenty at tantruming right wing types too.

Its along the lines of slag and whore and crazy bitch. It is used by people who don't tow the line that they set in how they want others to act.

walker1891 · 27/06/2020 12:58

Its used on people

I'm a millennial and my God, the abuse we get. I don't know why. We're too young to have wrecked the economy and housing market and we're too old to be having underground raves in lockdown. Seriously don't know what the fuck we did, but God do people hate us for it!

This is what I mean. I think you are just born in a certain year, not a milenial, boomer and whatever other doidah we are at now. . I fail to see what the year I was born in has to do with my character, my behaviour etc, and why any of my flaws have to be lumped as a generation thing. Same with all these generalised terms.
Sparklesocks · 27/06/2020 14:38

In my experience ‘snowflake’ is used to shut people down for sharing a dissenting view or point out that something is unfair/unequal. Not sure why saying ‘X isn’t a great way to treat people’ makes you fragile or self indulgent.

Porcupineinwaiting · 27/06/2020 14:40

I think as a term it has its place. That said, a individual person may display "snowflake" behaviour but its daft to label a whole generation or class of people with it (or anything else).

Bluebird3456 · 27/06/2020 14:44

the left takes offence at everything

Hmm 🙄

Immigrantsong · 27/06/2020 14:46

Yabu, i think it has its merits.

Totally agree with this ^ @JustC

It really is

Reddit have gone crazy on the Karen thing. They have a sub forum called Public Freakouts and every time a woman kicks off in public the headline is Karen etc etc

Not sure where it came from i.e the use of Jaren

ShebaShimmyShake · 27/06/2020 16:39

Reddit is a total cesspit. Obviously not all subs, some of them are dedicated to pretty innocuous topics, but if there's a hate centre for something, it'll be there. I don't even know why it's so popular with such a dated eyesore of a layout.
