To ask what happens at airports if you fly right now?

Just that- say if you have a friend/partner living within the EU and they invited you to stay, would you be asked the reason for travel at the airport?

Obviously this would be going against current FCO advice, but are you actually stopped at the airport as in, is it illegal?

I don’t understand the rules tbh! What will happen to those who fly prior to the air tunnels but land the day before the air corridors are formed? Will they have to isolate from that date even though it is no longer illegal? (Say air tunnels are in place from July the 6th, and you land back in the U.K. on July The 5th..: would you still need to isolate?)

It depends - if the destination has specific rules about who can enter ( the States has been mentioned, it was also common to be grilled before boarding flights to some European countries when they had arrival regulations) then yes you will be asked reason for travel and may have to provide supporting documentation...no different really waht happened pre-Covid if you were setting off for a country that had Visa requirements.

However the FCO advice is, err, advice, it is not illegal to ignore it. You leave the UK at your own risk so you won't be asked if you are complying with that.

The Schengen Zone (most of the EU+) opened up internally on 15/6 and will open to some additional countries 1/7.

Some countries in Schengen have already lifted restrictions for UK citizens on flights from the UK (on the basis that British citizens are technically still EU citizens until 31/12), others will lift restrictions on 7/1. Some EU/Schengen countries still have their own additional border restrictions and exclude even other EU countries with high COVID rates, which may include the UK.

So best to check the individual country - you can find current details on the map linked below (click on the country) and the pop-up will tell you any additional details (for example, if there's a self-isolation period, if you need to fill out an official public health tracking form, etc.)

Note this is CURRENT info - if you check your destination country and don't see that it's open AND don't see the UK on there as an allowed country, you can check further if and when it will be allowed, via that country's government or UK embassy website).

For returning to the UK - info on the air bridges is still limited. There's supposed to be more detail from the UK Govt by end of day Monday, which if we're lucky will include specific countries and a start date. My understanding is that if you arrive back in the UK before the start date, you are still subject to the 14 days isolation..

The restrictions of quarantine are set to be changed on Monday and the foreign office advice also so wait for Monday! They are planning to give countries green, amber or red and you only need to isolate for 14 days if you visit a red zone. You will still have to provide your contact details and address you will be staying at though incase of contact tracing.

Interesting answers, thank you all! I am considering flying on Wednesday (so 2 days after the foreign office advice). Do you expect the policies to change on the day or for it to be a pre-agreed date such as how we know pubs will open on the 4th July? If that makes sense!

As others have said it's all about the destinations rules, which may of course include the passports you hold. So it depends on what country, I do not know of any EU country with explicit entry refusal to UK nationals travelling, but that's not to say they don't exist, checking their info will be the key thing to do. For example, the German's ended any restrictions on the 15th of June.

Returning will of course be easier as UK national and resident, the only requirement will be the self isolation quarantine afterwards if it is still in effect on the country you're returning from.

Travel insurance is of course another risk, as that may not be available / pay out due to the FCO advice.

Yoi can leave thebYK but anybinsirance will be invalid if the FCO advises against it.

You will be denied boarding the fighting the country you are travelling to won't except travellers on certain passports.
Some countries may not accept pax travellingnfrom.thebUK (for example) regardless of whatbpassport theybare travelling on. Begs the question if there would be any flight operating?? Unless they accept people.on.connecrions only perhaps.

The important info you need is the UK travel.adgice for your destination but also your destinations current immigration laws.
In our current climate info can change by the hour so ensure you new upto date.

The country is Monaco! Very low rates of infection. Hmm ok so I could fly on Wednesday without problems? Still unclear on if I would have to isolate on monday 6th if I land back in the U.K. on Sunday the 5th

I saw they had Germany marked as a possible safe country but the R rate there has spiked again.
