This weather is beautiful but my GOD my neighbours!!

Seen so many neighbour-related threads on here so I'm sorry to be adding another one.

This weather is beautiful but why why WHY do my neighbours insist on sitting in their gardens playing shit music, letting kids scream and their dogs bark? Yeah I get that it's warm outside but it is past 11 at night - does warm weather mean less consideration?

Our neighbours have been an absolute nightmare since lockdown began and it doesn't seem to be getting better now we are emerging out the other end.

I wish I could pick my house up and move. AIBU or am I just a grumpy bitch...

@Survivor12345 I think all your post proves is that lockdown, house arrest and summer are driving everyone mad!

Personally, I prefer the winter for all the reasons you have outlined above. But espcially because of men with their power tools. Trying to wfh to a constant drone of powerwashers, hedgetrimmers, Flymos, Stihl saws and strimmers is going to end with me in the asylum.

Survivor12345 · 27/06/2020 12:19

I hear you jackdawdawn (when I take my earplugs out) - give me a nice, cold winter's day any time :).

SpiderStan · 27/06/2020 12:24

Past 11 at night? It's against environmental health rules to be making such noises past that time. YANBU.

Hmmph · 27/06/2020 12:26

Hate my neighbours too. We are now surrounded by “noise lovers”- building work, power tools, radios and screaming kids. Noise all day long and evening every day from at least one of these, if not all. It’s been going on throughout lockdown and we’re all trying to wfh/ home schooling. No one else is clearly.

I want to move to the middle of nowhere...

Joking aside- It’s having a serious detrimental affect on my mental health :(

PhoneLock · 27/06/2020 12:31

The British are vile in hot weather, it’s as if a collective madness takes over a lot of the nation.

At least it's only in hot weather. Staying up really late and shouting at each other seems to be the norm in some countries I have visited. Spain springs to mind as one example.

Immigrantsong · 27/06/2020 12:34

Yanbu. I am sorry you are going through this, some people don't seem to have basic manners and respect for others and only think of themselves.

Ishihtzuknot · 27/06/2020 12:34

I agree OP seems lockdown has brought out the arsehole neighbours in full force, my own included who enjoy loud music and barky dogs from sunrise to midnight every day.
My revenge has been very loud white noise which blocks the majority of the noise from inside but is incredibly irritating for those neighbours who can hear it Wink

mornington444 · 27/06/2020 12:36

I agree- loud noise after 11 unacceptable, and loud music (or probably something not to your taste as well) unacceptable.

Dogs cannot be blamed for the way that they behave. No such thing as a bad dog, just a bad dog owner.

madcatladyforever · 27/06/2020 12:38

How can they bear to listen to their own kids at 11pm, I'd have well sick of them by 6 and would have made them go to bed.

Fifthtimelucky · 27/06/2020 12:43

My children are now in their early 20s so it's entirely possible that I am looking back on their younger days through rose tinted spectacles (or ear muffs) but I really don't remember them screaming at all when they played outside, which they did a lot.

We have a few neighbours with young children now, and they don't scream either (occasionally one will have a bit of a tantrum, or might fall over and hurt themselves, but that's rather different and usually very short lived.

We seem to have been very lucky!

Thatbitchcarolebaskin · 27/06/2020 12:58

Monday - Thursday my neighbours screaming kids have been outside jumping on the trampoline, whinging and moaning from 9pm - 10:30pm ish. It’s been driving me mad as we have all returned to work and school

Callipygion · 27/06/2020 12:59

Mine were noisy, especially if they had friends round. I would continually pop out and tell them to pipe down! Girls were the worst with the high pitch screeching. It does your head in, I couldn’t stand listening to it so I’m sure neighbours would be the same.

Hopeful57 · 27/06/2020 12:59

Oh no, that sounds incredibly annoying.

I do believe that children are allowed to be heard (especially between 7am amd 8 pm on weekdays, 7 am is however a bit early on weekends. Mine doesn't, btw. Before you accuse me of being self serving with this assessment) but really despise neighbours who listen to music (outside).

Especially if they continue blasting their whole backyard whilst they "just went inside" for a little while...

The problem with music (and similar) is that it generally takes no effort whatsoever to listen to it (loudly)... There's nothing tomaintain, you can just plug it in / turn it on and disturb the whole neighborhood for the entire day!

WaffleCash · 27/06/2020 13:04

My kids are quiet during the day, but get livelier in the evening. They want to use their trampoline until about 10 pm. I live in the North and it's bright until nearly 11. Does this sound selfish? They don't make much noise apart from talking and the springs creaking etc I have told them NOT to shout.

The springs drive me crazy! Not a direct neighbour but there's a family a few houses away and the girl (young teenager) is often on the trampoline past 10pm at night. I'm half tempted to offer to go round there with some WD40 and see if I can reduce the squeaking.

Daisyxxchainxx · 27/06/2020 13:07

I feel I'm an annoying neighbor in the day.

We don't blast music and we are in by 7pm. But my 2 and 5 year old play out a couple of hours each day. Usually they are giggling really loudly. Arguing. Shouting or crying. Then im calling across the garden. Stop throwing stones. Stop arguing. Get away from the rubbish. Share nicely.

I've got one neighbour who is young and yet to have kids. Then I've got four houses of retired people who probably sit rolling their eyes when my kids go out.

Hopefully not though. I think it's here. Lockdown has really limited families with kids. I think after 8pm unless it's a rare BBQ or something people should be respectful. But i see it from both sides

Nonnymum · 27/06/2020 13:08

Is why I dislike the summer. I get so anxious about the behaviour of neighbours I just feel like hiding away.

romeolovedjulliet · 27/06/2020 13:10

i don't mind noisy kids, trampolines or even diy noise [for awhile] but the neighbours shit music thudding through the wall so they can hear it all over their house [and ours] and in their garden seriously makes me feel homicidal towards them. i asked them to switch the bass down once and she took on the face of a slapped arse but did adjust it slightly.
just fuck off back to work you selfish twats, and breathe.

Newbiehere123 · 27/06/2020 13:12

My neighbours are probably the worse! It's like living next door to a football stadium except, a football game is on every 2 weeks and it's on for a couple of hours but this is ongoing day and night. They are vile people! We live in a densely populated area down south with rows and rows of terraced houses, however you never hear anyone apart from the caged wild animals next door.

I sometimes have to park my car a couple of streets away from my house and I still hear our neighbours from there. I walk past loads of homes with windows sprung open and I don't hear anyone.

I've lobbied with the other neighbours and found our neighbours landlords details, so now we all have signed and sent a letter to him recently. It's not just the lockdown, they have always been like this.

They start at 5am where their kids kick ball against our fence- imagine the noise that will make! Throughout the day and night- screaming, shouting, swearing, playing loud music. They are vile, vile people. This is beyond being inconsiderate, this is literally abuse.

I can't wait to wave my middle finger goodbye to them the day they get evicted. Please god pleaseee. Ughhh!

Nonnymum · 27/06/2020 13:14

I have no problem at all with children playing in the day time. It's adults shouting singing and talking very loudly up until midnight and loud music playing I find hard to cope with.

Hopeful57 · 27/06/2020 13:14

We don't blast music and we are in by 7pm. But my 2 and 5 year old play out a couple of hours each day. Usually they are giggling really loudly. Arguing. Shouting or crying. Then im calling across the garden. Stop throwing stones. Stop arguing. Get away from the rubbish. Share nicely.

I personally wouldn't consider you annoying. Well, unless it was actually non stop screaming...

But I obviously can't speak for others.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 27/06/2020 13:16

My neighbours are genuinely lovely and not noisy. They are out in their garden all day talking In normal voices. Absolutely not a problem, and this is lighthearted but ... they are not loud enough for us to hear what they’re saying (not that we’d want to) but loud enough for us to hear who is speaking. And subconsciously I’m straining to hear what they’re saying, which induces a headache! It genuinely is only subconscious!!

Slave2love · 27/06/2020 13:17

My neighbours are selfish shits too. Their dogs yap constantly, the children scream non stop and now we have them playing their crap music at full volume in the garden every evening. It makes my blood boil that people can be so inconsiderate. We hardly use our garden now because they just spoil everything. I am also actively checking weather forecasts and praying for rain so that the selfish arses next door will bugger off inside and give me back my peace and quiet!

mencken · 27/06/2020 13:17

I continue to wonder why people keep pointless barking dogs. Are they a special type of people who actually enjoy the noise? I know they don't pick up the shit.

there's a market for settlements that say 'no dogs'. I'd move there like a shot.

GreyGardens88 · 27/06/2020 13:22

Put a note through their letterbox asking them to have some bloody consideration

romeolovedjulliet · 27/06/2020 13:23

yes, i hate the so called adults who shriek and laugh at every stupid little thing in hot evenings after 10pm usually pissed as newts, just don't get me on their karoke efforts. Angry
i was reading once that someone used to make a special plant food and water their garden when the weather was going to be hot. the smell was so bad that the ferals pita family wouldn't wouldn't spend much time outside as a result, sounds pretty awful idea what about the other neighbours ?
