To think we've fucked our caravan?

We have a small touring caravan we use in the garden for extra storage/spare bedroom. When we moved it slightly, we didn't wind the four legs up completely. We kept pushing, then realised one leg was a bit bent. It still winds up and down, and has no obvious stress marks.

We've tested it by loading the caravan with about 60 heavy boxes of books, have walked around in it, stood several people together in that corner. No probs, so we carried on using it.

But now we want to sell the caravan. We paid £1000 for it two years ago, and we now need the space as we will be building an extension. Is it saleable, or unsafe to sell? Is it possible to get a leg replaced, or have we completely fucked it? The rest of it is in reasonable/nice condition. What value would you think it has, assuming the price we paid was fair?

YABU = It's fine, someone will buy it.
YANBU = You've ruined it, it's unsaleable.

I wouldn’t buy it if I noticed it as when someone does this it can cause damage to the floor/underneath of the caravan where the leg attaches to the caravan. I’ve seen photos of buckled floors...it’s often not easy to see from the inside of the caravan as will be under a locker, etc. But it’s a point where damp can get in. It’s fixable. Of course the caravan might not be damaged but I’d have the thought the floor would damage before the metal leg.

But if you get a good look at the corners from inside and outside that might reassure someone. I’m sure legs are replaceable but the actual leg itself is safe.

I imagine you’d be able to sell it, but it would be priced based on condition so you wouldn’t get as much as you would without the damage.

Can you replace the leg?

So for a caravan in reasonable condition but damaged, that you paid £1000 for 2 years ago... £350?

Good point - I will crawl underneath and have a better look at the underside.

We wouldn't just hope the buyer didn't notice! We would tell any potential buyers about the leg in the advert, to save endless timewasters.

They would hardly have the legs down while driving down the motorway!

I will be selling a caravan with a bent leg, which I will point out to any buyer. If the buyer chooses not to repair the leg, and the caravan collapses and hurts someone, I still won't feel guilty - my responsibility ends when I sell.

You could contact a mobile caravan servicer, they should be able to give you an idea of cost for replacing the leg. They can also test for any damp that might have got in in that area.

I just jumped in without any knowledge of touring caravans. In my head the wheels attached to the legs to tow it away (sounds stupid now I've written it down, how would you get the wheels on? )
