To ask what it's like in the Lake District just now

We have a cottage booked in the Northern Lakes from 4th July.

Anyone live there/visited recently? Has the good weather brought lots of day trippers? Are places planning to reopen (esp Keswick)?

Can't speak for the lake district. But I went up Kinder Scout this Monday and it was really busy.
Seems the furloughed masses making the most of the national parks.

We were in Ambleside for the day on Monday due to viewing a camper van, it was quiet, we stopped in at the visitor info centre that's in a little post office and my husband bought some hiking maps the little ones with directions, the guy behind the counter said hooray first map sale of the season!! It was very sweet. No restaurants were open, we took a pic nic anyway. The toilets on the car park were open and there were lots of covid notices up. There were other people about just not very many, but it was perfect for us we had a good 8km walk, parked easily in Ambleside, bought some bits from Tesco for a snack on the way home and had a lovely day out, weather was terrible early on but the views, the scenery and the feel was lovely and relaxing, felt wonderful to hike around and see very few people too.
The local people we came across were very friendly.

Right now it's quiet.

It won't be the week of the 4th July if booking enquiries the last few days are anything to go by.

It's always busy in July, I just don't want it to be heaving.

@theCakeDistrict today in the lakes its been really busy, especially near the lake. Cars illegally parked, rubbish everywhere.
But the weather has brought everyone out. I imagine the beginning of July will be Chaotic, until things settle down and people get used to queueing outside small local shops again.

I would absolutely avoid any touristy places in the U.K. during July and August. Families who have missed out on their holidays at Easter and Spring Bank Holiday are going to visit in their thousands. My idea of hell. I will sit it out until September.
