To panic about this potential accident? TMI warning

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 22:07

Quite a TMI post, sorry for that folks!

Me and DH are going to start trying as of next month as this is when I will be eligible for maternity benefits, I’m quite lucky that my company have an excellent package!

For 5 months now I have been off my contraceptive pill and cycle tracked whilst also using condoms.

However (TMI warning) we were DTD earlier today and when I went to wipe I felt like I wiped ... you know what. The condom was on correctly, I did see some stuff on top of it and further down to which he said was me Blush

But, as I took my ovulation tests this morning which confirmed I was ovulating I am now worrying in case I get pregnant a month earlier than expected!

Part of me would get the morning after pill, I’m worried it’d ruin my cycle and affect us next month, does anyone have any experiences with the morning after pill? I’ve only ever had it once! A while ago

Maybe I am looking too far into it but missing out on excellent maternity benefits by a month would really be annoying!

And before I get the “why did you DTD when you’re ovulating and don’t want to get pregnant” lecture - things happen. Spur of the moment. Forgot for a little while that I was

If you’re sure the condom didn’t break then it’s most likely fine, but tbh I would get the MAP and save yourself a month of stress about it!

Tunnocks34 · 24/06/2020 22:15

18 months ago I would have told you, you were panicking for what sounded like no reason..but the I got pregnant with my third son, whilst using condoms 100% correctly, from what we remember the condom wasn’t split either, as we would absolutely have gotten the MAP due to the timing of the pregnancy.

borntohula · 24/06/2020 22:18

I would have said a condom was enough but going by previous response, I'm wrong. This is probably a really stupid question but how, if a condom is used correctly, does anything 'escape?'

MitziK · 24/06/2020 22:20

Cervical mucus?

LouiseTrees · 24/06/2020 22:26

Stupid question but if you are eligible for maternity benefits next month, couldn’t you have been trying 8 months ago as it’s about when you take the leave not about when you get pregnant . If you do get pregnant could you not just not tell them for a month?

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 22:34

@LouiseTrees apologies I have phrased it wrong. If I get pregnant next month, by the time I would be due I would be eligible for maternity benefits. Of course I may not get pregnant immediately, but we didn’t want to try sooner and take the risk just in case!

OP posts:
HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 22:35

@borntohula this is my thought as well. It hadn’t slipped off or broken so when I had been the loo I was shocked.

When your two years into trying this will seem really silly

NoProbLlamaa · 24/06/2020 22:42

You want a child but are willing to take the morning after pill because it’s a month to early? 🤨

Tolleshunt · 24/06/2020 22:45

Hmm, I wonder how you would feel about this if you are still trying in a year’s time with no sniff of a BFP?

whiplashy · 24/06/2020 22:48

you can’t book a pregnancy on demand

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 22:48

Okay received some pretty negative comments here. Of course I wouldn’t be heartbroken if I ended up pregnant it’d be a blessing. I would like to be financially stable and SMP would be extremely difficult and near impossible for us to live off as it’d be a major dip.

I did not mean to offend anyone, I would feel extremely blessed but also would like financial security.

Nomorewineever · 24/06/2020 22:48

You’re mid cycle, right? So on or around ovulation.

Around this time your cervical mucus changes - for a reason - to aid the journey of sperm through the cervix. Instead of having a creamy or watery discharge it’ll be like egg white. Clear/cloudy and stringy and lots of it. It’s a lot like leftovers semen after sex.

After ovulation it changes again.

There is an excellent book called ‘taking charge of your fertility’ which explains this in detail.

claireb707 · 24/06/2020 22:49

Could it be cervical much rather than ejaculate.

(Middle of cycle 11 of trying, wishes it was that easy...)

AdultierAdult · 24/06/2020 22:53

I would take MAP, also make sure you’re factoring in the possibility of an “early” baby into your planning, and the fact that conception counts as week 2...so probably best to wait until you’re about 33 weeks away from great mat benefits before trying.

Loads of women come onto the pregnancy boards worried about what they’ll be entitled to, it’s good you’re planning ahead!

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 22:56

Please save some of the critical comments. I haven’t explained the full picture and again, ideally if I was blessed enough to get pregnant quickly it would be when I would have financial security.

Really nothing wrong with that guys!

OP posts:
HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 22:58

@AdultierAdult thank you! I have used an online reverse due date calculator which gave me the estimate date we’d need to begin trying! And thank you again, I would need my benefits so we could live normally while I received them! SMP would take a huge knock to how we pay our bills.

AnyFucker · 24/06/2020 22:59

The "stuff" as ypu call it is more likely to be "egg white" cervical mucous that many women have at ovulation to help the sperm reach the egg

Was it clear, stretchy and slippy ? When I was ttc and undergoing fertility trestment this is how I tracked my cycles.

missrks · 24/06/2020 23:00

Stop being mean to the poor OP. She can plan her pregnancy as she see's best you absolute hornets

SprogletsMum · 24/06/2020 23:01

Some people just love to be nasty. If in 9 months time you were posting about being really skint and missing out on your maternity benefits by a month there would be people ripping you a new one for not waiting.
Personally I'd take the MAP now, its much better to not be worrying about money!

Nottherealslimshady · 24/06/2020 23:01

Your cervical mucus around ovulation actually looks quite a bit like ejaculate. Which does make sense as there both to support sperm. I wouldn't worry too much tbh but I'm probably swayed by the fact I'm currently ttc and it's not quite as easy as having sex during ovulation apparently!

StCharlotte · 24/06/2020 23:02

If you're ovulating, surely it's cervical mucus?

(What my colleagues and I used to refer to as "slip day" Grin)

AnyFucker · 24/06/2020 23:02

And yes, if you haven't conceived to order in a year or so the irony will be pretty fucking clear to you
