To panic about this potential accident? TMI warning

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 22:07

Quite a TMI post, sorry for that folks!

Me and DH are going to start trying as of next month as this is when I will be eligible for maternity benefits, I’m quite lucky that my company have an excellent package!

For 5 months now I have been off my contraceptive pill and cycle tracked whilst also using condoms.

However (TMI warning) we were DTD earlier today and when I went to wipe I felt like I wiped ... you know what. The condom was on correctly, I did see some stuff on top of it and further down to which he said was me Blush

But, as I took my ovulation tests this morning which confirmed I was ovulating I am now worrying in case I get pregnant a month earlier than expected!

Part of me would get the morning after pill, I’m worried it’d ruin my cycle and affect us next month, does anyone have any experiences with the morning after pill? I’ve only ever had it once! A while ago

Maybe I am looking too far into it but missing out on excellent maternity benefits by a month would really be annoying!

No-one’s being nasty, Sproglets, but it’s a fact that getting pregnant is often not as simple as a one-off accident. Despite what we all had drummed into us at school, that we can more or less get pregnant immediately just from sitting next to a boy on the bus, for most women it really isn’t as simple as that, and it can take many months of trying.

One in seven couples suffer infertility, so OP needs to weigh up the financial aspects (not inconsiderable, I grant you), with the possibility that it might turn out to be difficult for her.

Rubyroost · 24/06/2020 23:08

Wtf is you know what? 🙄

Saz12 · 24/06/2020 23:09

StCharlotte- I’m guessing you’re an accountant? or... work on an oil rig? .or...?

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 23:09

@Tolleshunt I appreciate that it can take a while, something me and DH have discussed many a time. But again, we would like to take no risks as there are chances of getting pregnant quickly or accidentally. Just like there are chances it could take a while.

I am not naive but would like to start my TTC journey next month positively.

I am not niave

Yet use the term you know what to describe bodily fluids?

I'm guessing you mean sperm BTW?

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 23:14

@Rubyroost yes I did.

Was just trying to keep the TMI to a minimum but yes I did mean sperm.

If you are planning ahead for maternity pay please take in the possibility of a early delivery too.

annie987 · 24/06/2020 23:16

I don't blame you for waiting at all.

Just be careful though - gave birth 12 weeks early. Would this affect your maternity?

annie987 · 24/06/2020 23:17

That should've said 'I' gave birth 12 weeks early

HufflePuff99 · 24/06/2020 23:17

@annie987 thank you! And no, luckily it’s based on my service at the company by my due date. As long as my due date it lines up then I am in the all clear!

I wonder if all the women bitching at OP support women having abortion and free access to contraception? @HufflePuff99 is planning ahead and being sensible, and there’s fuck all wrong with that

Missannelliot · 24/06/2020 23:21

I don’t know why you are getting such a hard time OP. Being finically secure is important. If you DTD today you are not currently pregnant so taking the MAP is no different to using condoms or continuing to take your normal pill etc. People are acting like you are about to terminate a viable pregnancy.

For what it’s worth it probably is just normal ovulation mucus but go ahead and get the MAP if it will save you 2 weeks of stress. It probably will mess with your cycle though.

indemMUND · 24/06/2020 23:25

If you're ovulating you're likely to have wiped away EWCM. It has a similar consistency to you know what.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 24/06/2020 23:25

It's not 'mean' to point out that op might be terminating a wanted pregnancy because it's four weeks earlier than suits

Taking the MAP is NOT terminating a pregnancy, it is preventing implantation so there is not yet a pregnancy to terminate.

OP if I was you I probably wouldn't bother taking the MAP and just wait and see. If it turns out do get pregnant, could you maybe tell your work your a few weeks further behind than you are?

Missannelliot · 24/06/2020 23:29

You can’t lie to your work because they will use the MAT-B1 for the dates reguarding maternity leave etc and the medical staff are not going to lie on that.

And I will say it again, the morning after pill is not a termination. It won’t work if you are already pregnant!!!

I delayed ttc dc2 because I wanted to avoid an August baby. And I'd had a lot of problems, including 2 miscarriages whilst ttc dc1 so I knew how hard conceiving could be. Do you all want to come and be horrible to me and leave the op alone for a bit? It's her uterus, her financial stability. Give over.

Ishihtzuknot · 24/06/2020 23:36

If you are pregnant can you not take some annual/sick leave and start maternity leave later when you’re eligible?
Don’t overthink it, if you are then take it as a blessing you didn’t have years of trying. I wouldn’t advise the map if you plan to ttc soon anyway, I took it once and it really effected my cycles for a while. Good luck

MummytoCSJH · 24/06/2020 23:39

@Tolleshunt I had sex once at 15 years old using both a condom and the pill and still got pregnant. Yes lots of people struggle and it's really sad, my aunt wanted children her entire life and sadly was never able to have any - but lots of people don't struggle, so it's not like there's absolutely no chance the OP could get pregnant from this and she's right to be worried if it will leave them unable to pay their bills.

Don't know why people are so angry here, it's not wrong to want to be financially stable, and taking the MAP is not a termination nor wrong in any way whatsoever.

Saladmakesmesad · 24/06/2020 23:43

Hello, OP.

If you are ovulating already, the MAP will absolutely not work I'm afraid. It works by delaying/stopping ovulation so that you don't get pregnant. If you're already ovulating, it won't prevent or end a pregnancy.

An emergency coil fitting would be much more likely to be effective in preventing a pregnancy, but doesn't sound very suitable for you since you want to start trying for a baby.

I'm afraid you're just going to have to wait this one out. For what it's worth, I think it's highly unlikely that you've had a condom accident and more likely that your discharge and mucus is heavy as you are ovulating.

dalrympy · 24/06/2020 23:45

You could fall pregnant next month and still have your child at the same time. I had a completely normal 8 month pregnancy. How would that work with the way your employer calculates it?

Whathewhatnow · 24/06/2020 23:47

Good grief. Leave the poor OP alone. She asked a perfectly reasonable question... all this hair shirt, you'll be sorry if it takes you decades stuff is understandable but unhelpful right now.. I'm older but had i continued with my 1st pregnancy I would really not be in a good financial position now.. that's life folks, you need to plan ... or not plan but accept penury ...which most people dont really rate, for very good (and quite often child-centric) reasons.

anonacatchat · 24/06/2020 23:49

Sorry I would take the MAP just to be safe .

ittakes2 · 24/06/2020 23:50

Completely off point but if you are that concerned about your timing with maternity leave...worth waiting more than a month as plenty of babies born early.
