Baby bird

Not an unreasonable thread at all, but couldn’t find where else to post.

Baby bird just fallen out of nest (in eves of roof) onto Perspex roof of conservatory. A bit battered but alive. Have put him in a little box with some padding, some water and some seed, but he does look very young. Anything else I can do for him?

If it’s very young, it won’t be eating solids yet, so will need syringe feeding. Best bet is to contact a local wildlife sanctuary and see if they can fetch it.

I had a similar problem last year. I asked the local vet as could not get suitable food into bird (they need special food or mashed up cooked egg yolk with water). It turned out one of the vet nurses liked rescuing baby birds so she kindly took mine on. I never went back to see if it survived as I had formed a bond with it and didn't want to know if it had died.Mine was a young collared dove whose feathers had just started to come through. He and his bro/sis had been blown out of the nest on a cold stormy day and he was sitting next to his dead sibling on a footpath when my dog found him so I popped him in my jacket pocket and took him home. He was very chatty during the night ( I had to keep trying to get water down him every 2 hours and he sat in a small basket in an open drawer). He was quite a character but my parrot is a lot less trouble to look after.

Can't you put it back in the nest?

Are the parents still around?
A couple of years ago we had a baby blue tit. Put him in a box in an up-ended cat carrier in the garden and the parents came and fed him! they could get through the cat carrier bars.
