To think e-scooters are really dangerous?

It’s currently illegal to use e-scooters anywhere other than on private land but there seems to be a growing number of them, particularly since the lockdown - at least in my part of London. What worries me is that they can go quite fast and there are a lot of teens/young guys going on them on footpaths, very fast in quite a reckless manner.

Yanbu, and sad to say it is likely to get worse as there are trials planned for making rented e scooters legal in certain places....

We were in Berlin last summer where there were thousands of them. They were banned in pedestrian areas- you could use them on the road or in cycle lanes. The difference is that Berlin, like many German cities, is covered in cycle lanes. It was a very convenient beat to travel.

I wouldn’t want to ride one in Uk . It would not feel safe enough.
I would not want to come up against one being used as a pedestrian either

Anything that gets people around with using cars is a good thing. I'd imagine they're safer than many forms of transport

While they are not legal they are dangerous. With some restrictions put in place they may work but not now

I think it's well overdue we make small electric vehicles legal and regulated. Light touch - I'm thinking speed, power, and weight limits but not restricting form. Technology is innovating and our laws are stuck in the fossil fuel age.

It works well for me, but I don’t think they are suitable for children really. They can be really powerful

You should need to be insured and have a licence to ride an e-scooter (and a bicycle for that matter). As with cars, if they are used recklessly or carelessly they can cause serious injuries or kill.

Yes, they're dangerous in our current setup. But I wish that the many people who get so upset about electric scooters and bikes (or bikes generally) would focus more of their anger on the cars that kill far more people, cause far more pollution and take up far more space, often in cities where alternative transport would be far more manageable if only we could reduce numbers of cars and build proper cycle/scooter lanes.
