Fat people hate summer? *light hearted*

I'm currently fat, by at least 3st, I have always been overweight by about a stone but the last 3 years am just fat, self inflicted as eat too much crap.

My friend and I were chatting today and I said I'm really not looking forward to this heatwave as I hate summer at the best of times, her reply was "well your overweight so of course you'll hate summer"

She has a point as carrying extra weight isn't great in the heat, but my point was I've ALWAYS disliked summer.

My wedding was in October as hated the idea of sweating in my dress (was quite slim when married), i don't go on holiday to really hot counties or will go out of season to avoid peak heat, hate etc etc

AIBU to assume slim people can dislike summer too? Friend was adamant it's my weight and couldn't get her head round the fact I just don't like summer / hot weather.

I’ve always hated summer. I found it worse when I was thinner as I fainted frequently. I’m not sure why but gaining a bit of weight helped with that (I’ve always been within a healthy bmi so I wasn’t fainting from being underweight or anything). Summer is just awful. Especially in countries with no air conditioning.

I'm not overweight but I don't love summer. Can't handle the humidity, I get migraines and I always have my bouts of depression in August. I prefer spring and autumn.

I'm fat and ginger, summer is a nightmare for me.

I got sunburned in March in Scotland once!

See it's 5.30am and I am awake! It's all down to summer, despite having black out blinds, the blinding sun intruding on my sleep, also sounds like an Avery has been built in my bedroom with all the birds singing.

Also hate ice cream so can't even find small pleasures in that!

Kids will be exhausted again today as didn't get to sleep until almost 10pm last night as "it's still daytime mummy" 😩

I am fat but I love summer. Hated it in the UK when it just felt sweaty and gross but in Australia it is glorious

I'm fat and love summer so much I moved to Australia. Its winter here now and I bloody hate it. Mind you even when it goes over 35 here the humidity is very low, so it actually feels a lot more pleasant that Europe when its ten degrees lower.

I’m obese (need to lose 3-4 stone). I like it when I don’t have to trundle around ancient ruins or stuff like that. Plus, the worst thing about being very overweight in hot weather is looking awful in a swimsuit.
The rest of the time I enjoy it.

That's ridiculous, some people like being hot some don't! I don't but I still like summer, I just stay on shade, try to stay cool, don't go in the sun in the middle of the day - in fact I do all the stuff you're suppose to do anyway on hot days!

How mean of your friend to be so blunt and hurtful. I was overweight for years and hated the summer. I’m now 4st lighter and a normal weight for my height, and I still hate summer lol. Actually to be honest, I don’t hate everything about summer. Anything up to 21/22 degrees is ok especially if I’m just chilling in my garden, or out having a slow walk, but I can’t sit in the sun like some do for hours on end and anything over 21/22 I feel really uncomfortable and sweaty which I hate lol. Like you I don’t go abroad at peak times and only go probably every couple of years anyway.I couldn’t think of anything worse than being on holiday with my kids in 30+ degree heat. I think I’d be having words with your friend if it were me as there is no need for her to be like that with you.

I was a size 28, I'm now a size 8 and I still hate summer. Thought I'd love it when I lost the weight, fewer clothes, no ugly cover ups...nope, I hate it just as much and I'm still always hot and sweaty regardless of what I wear

I’m a bit fat (12-14) and I hate it. I hated it when I was a size 8. Sweat, I get migraines when it does that weird thundery muggy hot thing, I don’t like exercising when it’s hot, and my DD passes out on a daily basis if it goes above 20 which is a stress I could do without. Plus I really love jumpers and scarves.

I'm fat and I hate the heat. Oh for a light frost and crispy leaves underfoot in November.

I can't remember liking it any better when I was slim but that was a long time ago Grin

Should add that I'm lucky in that my garden is in shade all afternoon and evening so sitting on the patio of a summer evening is actually quite pleasant.

Sun worshippers would hate my garden though

I'm very fat and I love summer and hate winter. I'm not a naturally sweaty person though. Dh finds summer uncomfortable but he sweats through the winter and he is slim.

I’m fat and I love summer. I’m much happier in a floaty dress than trying to squeeze my sausage legs into trousers. I feel much more me in summer, I find it easier to find clothes that are comfortable and I can wear one layer not 4 which bulk me out even more...

Thanks to chub rub shorts to save my thighs and bandanas to keep sweaty hair off my face I’m good to go in summer. Love it!

So yeh. This fat chick rocks summer.

Summer Nightmare Bingo there for sure! Grin

I'm Easy-To-Tan Sallow, but fat so I now hate Summer too - well, when it's over 20c. Gimme overcast with a breeze any day!

I’m skinny as a rake and can’t bear anything over 23/24C. Plus get raging hay fever. People are so bloody rude about weight!

Report
Sandybval · 23/06/2020 08:55

Wow she sounds like a savage friend haha! I used to dislike summer as I would be so uncomfortable in the heat. I felt really self conscious in summer clothes, I would get so hot and would be sweaty in all of my erm folds. I do enjoy it a lot more now I can just chuck some comfortable and cool clothes on without worrying about how I look, and I don't find I get quite as sweaty. Of course though some peoples likes or dislikes around the weather aren't dependent on weight at all

Bagelsandbrie · 23/06/2020 08:56

Wow your friend was blunt! How rude!

I’m fat and early menopausal and I am a melting mess in anything over 22 degrees. Can’t stand it. But my dd who is 17 and a size 6-8 at 5ft 8 also hates summer - she gets heat rash and just feels really hot and uncomfortable. So maybe it’s just in our genes!

Report
JustC · 23/06/2020 09:13

Your friend is a bit silly really. Apart from heat affecting overweight people more, I fail to see what weight has to do with one season or another. Enjoy or hate whatever season you like.

Silversun83 · 23/06/2020 09:14

I'm just over 8 stone and a size 8-10 and I hate summer too. The heat is just so draining, gives me headaches, saps me of energy. I much prefer cloudier summer days and actually love summer rain!

Mind you, I hate winter too 🤷‍♀️ Hate extremes of temperature. Favourite seasons are Spring (as long as it's not too hot 😂) and Autumn.

I’m currently fat, have been at the other end of the scale at under 7 stone and absolutely hated summer then and still hate it now! I’m not good in the heat, I burn on a full moon, get very irritable in the heat, hate the constant need for sun scream and sticky kids wanting to cuddle sticky me. Hate getting hat hair, hate getting sweaty as soon as I’m out the shower while moisturising etc. I’m also epileptic and very hot weather can bring on more seizures for me. So your friend is quite wrong!

Report
Mumoblue · 23/06/2020 09:54

I hate summer.
My eczema flares up, I have to hide in the shade like a vampire in order to not burn and for some reason it makes me really really sleepy. I dont understand people who like summer.

I'm slightly overweight now because of baby weight, but I used to be underweight and then average weight and I have always always hated summer.

Report
Batqueen · 23/06/2020 10:05

Yep, it’s not a weight thing. I’ve been told to put on weight to stop feeling cold and I love summer.

I’m always cold, the rest of my family is always hot! For the last few years I’ve been thinner than my sister (normal bmi not underweight or anything but she has kids and I don’t so I obviously have more time for exercise) but it was the same as children when we were similar body types and there have been times when I’ve been overweight and my sister has been thinner than me and nothing changed - I was cold, she was hot. My sister is in complete agreement with you OP as are her extremely active and lean children.
