to ask you about hobbies!

My DH and DS have a hobby that takes them out of the house every day for at least couple of hours or so (think BMXing).

I usually use this time to tidy up etc but would love to find something that my DD (8) and I could do every day and ideally, get better at!

We are both pretty crafty so that would be the obvious choice, but my DD much prefers crafting under her own steam using her own ideas rather than anything I come up with!

I'd quite like to do something active, especially while all our other activities are not running, but its hard to find something my DD enjoys.

So, do you have a hobby you share with your DD that you'd be happy to share with me?!

Ours are all sporty... mountain biking, climbing, walking. We do these separately and as a family.

I am in a similar position. My DD9 and I have a good relationship but I want to find something thats "our thing" (but not sat watching nonsense on screens which is probably also our thing)

I crochet. And restore furniture, sew, and bake.

I like to cross stitch. Starting off I'd recommend ones with whole stitches only or you can even get ones where the design is already printed onto the Aida. There's something magical about seeing the image you're cross stitching start to come together once you start putting the back stitches in

@Lozz22 just a second, when you cross stitch are you supposed to put all the lines going one way in (like forwards slashes), and then do all the lines going the other way (like backslashes) to make crosses?

Gardening sometime, but it's a bit random, tbh it's more my hobby and DD joins in when in the mood. She enjoys it though, mainly looking after seedlings. We do lots of walks, hiking and enjoying watching documentaries and movies together.

Me and my 12 year DD crochet, we only it took it up in lockdown and have made everyone we know birthday pressies. We make little gifts like amigurumi, we both love it and have gotten quite good.

Dd and I have started couch to 5k with random sprints thrown in for "fun". It's good for both of us and we get to chat while we do it.

Dd (13) and I have been doing taekwondo for years, ds used to do it too but stopped earlier this year.
Great to have someone to help me with patterns, she has the patience of a saint helping me
Certainly keeps us fit and gives us something to talk about.

@Thinkpinkstink Yeah stitch one way and then back over the opposite way. That way you'll get a more defined and nearer finish I always go bottom left corner to top right going one way and come back bottom right to top left Aida has tiny holes all over it like the one I've posted. It shouldn't matter if you cross stitch the other way round so bottom right first and bottom left last just as along as every stitch goes the same way. You'd be surprised at how one wrong stitch can change the whole look of something I've done it myself and can guarantee it's alway one smack in the middle of the project. I did a limited edition Winnie the Pooh one and accidentally threaded in a different shade of yellow. It was blatantly obvious but the stitching had worked into the other stitching and I couldn't unpick it so now it has a clear line that's much darker on it

Make nest boxes and feeders for the birds, get a book and watch and identify what comes into the garden. Keep records to compare each month. Learn about plants you can plant to encourage birds and insects like butterflies, buy some seeds and plant to create a wildlife garden. Dig out a small pond / drinking pool. Make a hedgehog home and a feeding station to see if you have any local hogs.
