Travel abroad early September? Will there be quarantine in UK on return?

Would you go on holiday to Germany in early September? It's for family wedding, which is going ahead.
My main concern is:
Will there be 2 week quarantine on return to UK? I have DC back in school on the 7th September 2020 which I don't want them to miss.

Yabu
Don't go. There will be quarantine and DC will miss school.
Yanbu
Go. It'll be fine.

No-one can possibly know. If you want to go you'll need to accept there's a risk of losing money or having to quarantine.

It’s still too soon to tell but I would be optimistic that the U.K. govt will have stopped pretending the quarantine will make any difference by September.

Gimmecaffeine · 21/06/2020 19:02

It will probably be fine, but it will be a risk if there is a second peak.

YWNBU to say you'd rather not risk it if your gut is telling you to duck out.

But YWNBU to book and reasonably expect to go.

booked to Germany in July. I would WFH if needed but I think it will be one of the airbridge countries and by September it won't be a non-issue.

Well as government sources have already suggested that the quarantine requirements will be removed end of this month/early next for some countries, and Germany has managed quite well so far, I’d be fairly confident that by September there will be no quarantine required after being in Germany. I’d book a trip if it was me.

But nonE of us know the future - we couldn’t possibly tell you anything you don’t already know. If I was a betting person - I would say you could probably go but with restrictions.

I'm going Bali in September via Dubai. Feeling optimistic quarantine will be long gone. If not, DP and I will do a big shop before we go, pop it in the freezer and work from home on return.

Germany has just had a spike in cases and a leap in the R number:

We're booked to go to Greece at the end of September (booked it last September). Still hoping we will make it, but it does still feel very up in the air.

Any travel this year comes with the risk of local lockdowns and other restrictions, which may be at short notice.

Many thanks everyone.
I've been looking up flights today xx

I hope this ridiculous quarantine idea will have been shelved by September! I would do it, OP. I've just booked my flights for September 4th and I'm not anticipating any problems.

Enjoy your trip!

The news about the R rate needs some careful interpretation, also. The rate in the country as a whole is very low. In my hometown, which is a large city, there are currently only 10 people being treated in hospital. What we're seeing is infections within small areas which are being isolated quickly.

dontjustdont · 22/06/2020 13:53

Why on earth do you think that anyone posting on MN will know the answer to this?

1000 people could tell you that it will be fine, but if the government decide to persevere with the ridiculous quarantine rules then it won't be OK.

Having said that, it probably will be OK but I can't possibly know that so please don't plan anything based on what I have said.
