If you were buying what would be your non negotiable.... And how far from a station/high street would you be willing to live?

Detached.
Large garden.
Off road parking.

Everything else is negotiable.

SayakaMurata · 21/06/2020 20:13

Oh and at least 2 bathrooms.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 21/06/2020 20:14

I see a theme of detached.

TowelHoarder · 21/06/2020 20:18

@Greenbutterlfy566 I’d like a detached because in our current semi our neighbours like to yell at their kids constantly and the husband is very fond of drilling holes in the party wall, I’m assuming the wall on their side looks like Swiss cheese!

8elate8 · 21/06/2020 20:19

Close to a busy road, we found out that the hard way.

JoanieCash · 21/06/2020 20:23

@Greyandpink am totally with you on south facing garden.

cabinfever2 · 21/06/2020 20:23

Detached
South face garden
Family sized kitchen
Not too many rooms

Current house nothing like this 🤦‍♀️

vixxo · 21/06/2020 20:24

Location.

AnnieMaul · 21/06/2020 20:28

Our non negotiable factors were:

  • Detached
  • Not overlooked on any side
  • Not on an estate/ development
  • Driveway for at least 2 cars
  • Not on a main road
  • Garden good size, but not too big.
(Our last house had 1/4 acre garden and it was an absolute PITA seeing as we both hate gardening)

We had several other preferences that could have been potential deal breakers, but we wouldn't have considered anything that didn't tick all of the above.

Sh05 · 21/06/2020 20:30

No pub nearby, two reception rooms downstairs and two bathrooms.
10 years ago it was school catchment area, no pub nearby and two reception rooms but my older 3 are in highschool now and 4 year old in the best primary in the area so catchment area is no longer a priority

redwoodmazza · 21/06/2020 20:31

When we bought this house [in 1993 - I am old!!!] it was 4 bedrooms, utility room and a double garage.
I don't know what we would change going forward but as we don't intend to move, it doesn't matter!!!

AnnaBanana333 · 21/06/2020 20:37

Parking, because I'm disabled.

No rights of way or easements over my land.

And as far away from any other humans as possible. I can cope with anything except bad neighbours.

Ineedanamechangeagain · 21/06/2020 20:37

We’ve just moved and ours were:

Detached
Character
Off road parking
Privacy/not overlooked
Not open plan
fibre optic broadband connection nearby
Room for home offices
Large garden, not on a slope (our old one was quite steep)
Large rooms (fed up of always standing in each other’s way in the hall in the old house or ‘5 bed’ new builds which you can barely fit a bed in)
Garage
Quiet area
Somewhere that needed refurbishment

Oh yes and not on an estate too, I forgot that and it was number 1 on our list!
SomewhereInbetween1 · 21/06/2020 20:40

Haha Christ, the money some of you must have!!

Ineedanamechangeagain · 21/06/2020 20:43

Lifeisconfusing · 21/06/2020 20:49

Detached
Drive
Garage
Large living room
Kitchen diner
Utility
Park/church near by
Corner shop
Nice size garden not over looked
Big bay window

Chanel05 · 21/06/2020 20:57

Detached or semi
Decent schools nearby
3+ bedrooms
Front drive big enough for at least two cars
Utility room

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/06/2020 20:59

My heart sinks reading most of these. No one's ever going to buy my house!! Sad

Thecazelets · 21/06/2020 21:04

The last time we moved it was

detached
not impossible to travel to work and schools
an area that was not actively dangerous

I looked at absolutely anything in our price range that met those criteria - didn't care about size, garages, gardens, parking, period features or condition. Detached houses can be harder to find in London and it ruled out lots of areas on availability as much as cost. (Luckily we did much better than the bare minimum above!)

Alsohuman · 21/06/2020 21:07

A south facing garden, ideally overlooking a field. A village with a shop and a pub. Good sized kitchen/diner or potential to create one.

Don’t be disheartened. People’s priorities depend on their situation. The house I was looking for this time was completely different to what I was looking for when I moved last time, or the time before.
Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 21/06/2020 21:11

Detached, utility room, more than one loo and a garden for little one and cats to run around in, and 15 mins walk to station

Grasspigeons · 21/06/2020 21:14

Not on a busy road
Parking
Walking distance of cornershop

Lifeisforliving123 · 21/06/2020 21:15

3 bed
Flat garden
Cul de sac
Nit far from family or shops
