Special horse 😂

lialeung1990 · 20/06/2020 23:50

Chinese here. It means night, or similar to Japanese, a place to stay the night. Another nicer meaning is constellation - not that bad a tattoo!

Attached the translations. Hope it helps.

Imagine permanently inking a word onto your skin when you don't know what it means Confused
So, so stupid.

Thanks for this, OP. The thread has really made me laugh. Special horse. Grin

LiquoricePickle · 21/06/2020 01:52

In Chinese I know it at the first character in the word "宿舍" which is dormitory, like where all my students live in rooms of six!

snowqu33n · 21/06/2020 01:58

It’s the first part of the Japanese word for “homework”. Maybe he should have done his homework before getting it permanently drawn on his skin.

snowqu33n · 21/06/2020 01:58

宿題 is the word for homework

NewtonPulsifer · 21/06/2020 02:04

At uni done arse was showing off his chinese writing saying it meant honour and courage etc. A chinese Guy said ‘Erm it actually days ‘a fool and his money are easily parted’ the guy shut up and shuffled off. Someone said ‘wow is that really what it said ?’ the guy shrugged and said. ‘Fucked if I know I’m from Birmingham and can’t read mandarin’ his grandparents were chinese and migrated here before his parents were born.

Was your partner well known for being especially “ accommodating” Grin Love special 🐎.

Mencho · 21/06/2020 03:44

I read Japanese and the other commenters are right - 宿 on its own means “inn” or “hotel”. However, it could also be part of the verb 宿る (yadoru) which means “to live” or “to dwell” so I suppose you could think of it as “home is where the heart is”. Unfortunately, you’d need the “る” part for it to become a verb.

Ah well, it could be worse - my husband saw a foreigner on the Tokyo Metro with “冷蔵庫” tattooed on his arm. It means “fridge” 😂

ScotInExile · 21/06/2020 03:44

Oh, can I join in? Does anyone know what this means?

OwlBeThere · 21/06/2020 03:51

Can anyone tell me what this means?
It’s very very old and faded, and I think i was told it means something to do with enjoyment. But i was 15, drunk and it was very long ago 😂

@Thisismytimetoshine...well in the almost 30 years I’ve had mine it’s affected my life in literally no way whatsoever. So don’t worry about it Grin

ABingThing · 21/06/2020 07:43

At the swimming pool once I saw a bloke with an enormous tattoo on his back, and it was the traditional Chinese character for 'cow'. I've always wondered if he knew what it meant and, if he did, why on earth he had it done in the first place Confused

NearlyGranny · 21/06/2020 07:48

He obviously had a cowboy tattooist who ran out of room! Laughing at the special horse with its fetlocks streaming in the wind, too! It badly needs a vet.

blueshoes · 21/06/2020 10:16

ScotInExile, I am no expert but that does not look like a character that exists in Chinese/Mandarin. Was the tattooist Chinese or Japanese? They may have copied from somewhere but got the strokes wrong.

OwlbeThere, the character is too distorted to be recognisable. I am not sure it is the right way up.
