To ask if you naturally sit at *your* preferred weight

I just want to start off saying this isn't a thread to have a dig at people's sizes at all.

I was watching re-runs of Friends and Monica, Rachel and Phoebe are so skinny (to me) I wonder if people naturally sit at that slim level or if it has to be maintained with a lot of hard work and willpower.

When I was at my slimmest it became hard work for me to maintain. I gained some extra lbs and it was easy again. I now have (a lot of!) baby weight to shift before returning to work in 4 months. I'm just thinking how difficult it is going to be and will I now find it hard to maintain that weight once there (if ever there!)

I think that the killer are the highly processed foods. I haven't had weight problem until I got busy and eat lots of processed.

not sure about naturally but I do seem to have found the right balance and my weight hasn't really changed for about 20 years (I'm 46 now) apart from when I was pregnant. I know that as long as I walk plenty (at least 10,000 steps a day fast walking) and eat good healthy food then I will stay about the same weight without any real effort. I eat lots of veg but also crisps, chocolate, wine, and plenty of pasta and bread. I don't really have a sweet tooth though so not fussed about cakes and biscuits. If I can't walk as much for some reason then I know I can't eat as much of the nice stuff so it's a good incentive! I do get a bit annoyed when people say I'm so 'lucky' to be thin, it's not luck! I could easily put on weight if I wanted to and have done in the past.

Depressingly I am overweight unless I make an effort to eat very little. Since having babies my willpower is awful and through sleep deprivation I survived on sugar

Before that in my 20s I would often eat humour and raw veg ( broccoli and carrots) for lunch, skip breakfast etc to maintain my weight. After baby no 1 I did low carb,3x weekly hit sessions to lose weight.

I've not managed to lose the baby weight after no 2 and I'm not sure I ever will. I need to though.

Jennifer Anniston is not naturally thin, and had to lose 30 pounds before getting the role in Friends. I’m sure it has now become a habit and part of her life to keep at that weight.

Lol no (I'm big) but unless I actively diet (under 1500 cals a day) I gain lots of weight

Clockworkprincess · 21/06/2020 21:16

Since my mid 20s ive hovered between 10 and 11 stone. Apparently i should be about 9 and a half. I walk usually 20,000 steps a day and have an active job. It's a struggle to lose the weight but i wouldn't say i look fat. I wear a 14 on top to accommodate the boobs but on bottom easily a 12

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 21/06/2020 21:28

As I get older I find it’s definitely something I need to focus on. It’s a matter of adjusting what you are doing to fit your changing body. I can’t eat/drink what I did in my 20s but my 20s were along time ago!

jannika · 21/06/2020 21:51

Ever since I was a teenager (now 30s) my easy to sit at weight is around 8-8.5 stone. However my preferred weight is about
7 stone 10, for me that makes me a size 6-8
and I like the way clothes look on me at that weight. That extra half a stone less takes a lot more effort to maintain though, so I'm not often at it.

Ibizafun · 21/06/2020 22:04

I never had to work at maintaining my weight, I could eat whatever I wanted, and I mean any amount of anything. and was still a size 8. Fast forward to me 50’s and that’s a distant memory.. now have to excercise AND watch what I eat and when I eat it.

EmeraldShamrock · 21/06/2020 22:05

I maintain it without much effort. I'm very active/hyper I'm grateful my body works I don't have a big appetite and sit well at 7.10. I always put on 10lb in winter but it comes off without effort in Spring.
I do 3 x 30 min workouts and lots of walking each week mainly to keep on top of my MH.

Lovely1a2b3c · 21/06/2020 22:28

No sadly! I've not been under 10 stone in my adult life. I would really like to be 9 stone. I sat at a 'set-point' of 11 stone for a long time but issues with binge-eating mean I am now very big.

Heidi1976 · 22/06/2020 09:27

Wow it seems that loads of the posters on here are naturally slim! I'm 5ft2 and weigh about 11 stone. I feel and look revolting to be honest. I have no idea what I natural weight is, all I know it's increased the older I get. I used to be naturally slim when I was a child/young teen, then my 'natural weight' slowly began to increase with more and more effort required to stay in a shape I would deem attractive. Since having DC, I can't seem to shift ANYTHING. It's depressing.
