To ask if you naturally sit at *your* preferred weight

I just want to start off saying this isn't a thread to have a dig at people's sizes at all.

I was watching re-runs of Friends and Monica, Rachel and Phoebe are so skinny (to me) I wonder if people naturally sit at that slim level or if it has to be maintained with a lot of hard work and willpower.

When I was at my slimmest it became hard work for me to maintain. I gained some extra lbs and it was easy again. I now have (a lot of!) baby weight to shift before returning to work in 4 months. I'm just thinking how difficult it is going to be and will I now find it hard to maintain that weight once there (if ever there!)

I am sure I read ages ago that in an interview Monica's character said at parts of filming she was so hungry , and looking back thinks she got too skinny.

Aria20 · 20/06/2020 06:54

I normally maintain with just general rushing around with a toddler, walking school run twice a day and eating normally..... BUT lockdown!! Boredom biscuit munching as I'm at home basically all day, I go for a short walk but at toddler pace, I'm cooking more fancy meals as we're all at home to eat together and baking.... I need to lose about 5lb and my belly I've gained! I know I could lose it quickly but I have no motivation and know that while I'm still at home it will be hard to maintain!

Pinksun12 · 20/06/2020 06:54

I get up between 5 and 6 and have breakfast between 12 and 2, then dinner at 6ish. It took a while to get there but now on most days I do t even feel hungry at before my first meal. But on the days i do I'd have breakfast earlier.

BurtsBeesKnees · 20/06/2020 06:55

I never had to worry about my weight, I was naturally slim and could eat as much as I wanted and did no exercise. Looking back I naturally didn't eat much, didn't eat much shit or drink.

I started to put weight on after my first dc. I was mid 30s and suddenly found I couldn't carry on eating as I did without putting weight on. I then went on the divorce diet and maintained my ideal weight for 3 years. After I met my, now dh, I've put 3 stone back on. It was 4 but I've lost a stone through sw. I now just want to get into the healthy bmi

Pinksun12 · 20/06/2020 06:55

And of course when I'm on holiday I eat normal mealtimes with my family

Nobodysdiary · 20/06/2020 06:57

I’ve been the same weight for years. I have always been slim. I probably put on about 5lbs when I got to my late 40s and I don’t think I’d shift that Unless I starved myself.

midnightstar66 · 20/06/2020 06:57

Yes I do, only time I've ever deviated from my weight of around 9st is because of hormonal birth control. 2dc haven't made a difference (apart from in later pregnancy obviously) I eat ok but don't watch calories, have an addiction to cheese, don't have a sweet tooth but drink too much wine. I'm probably a bit less fit than I used to be as I do significantly less walking since dd2 went up to school and we got a car at the same time but it hasn't had an affect on my weight

ishouldtryabitmoreachday · 20/06/2020 06:59

@withlotsoflove that's my good weight too and I'm 5ft 9 .. currently at 10 stone 3, slowly working on loosing baby number twos excess weight.

When younger I looked defined at 9 and half stone, you could see abs, but just couldn't maintain it for long. Generally I would sit at 9 stone 10 easily. I worked out a lot though and could eat some treats too.

I find having the will power harder now I'm older and very little time with 2 little children. I'm active but not training so less muscle and more treats. My stomach is very wrinkled due to loose skin after big babies and so it will never snap back 🙁

ZaraW · 20/06/2020 07:00

It was easy for me to maintain my weight until 48. 49 I'm going through menopause and coronavirus boredom eating I've put on 7kg. Have given myself 3 months to try to shift the weight.

GenevaMaybe · 20/06/2020 07:03

I am 5 ft 5 and 40 yrs old. I feel good at 52kg but if I eat what I fancy I end up at 55kg. So I spend most of my time trying to get to or maintain 52kg. Maybe I should just embrace those 3 kilos.

Weekday28 · 20/06/2020 07:03

I typically sit around 10.10 ish which is a size 12 for me. I have always been size 12 since I was 15. When I had children I gained a lot but once I had my last baby I worked hard and got down to 9.10 which was a size 8. I looked awful so gained a little back which then meant I got out of the rythem of eating 'well'. I now still sit at 10.10 but I want to lose a little bit just to get into size 10s but that does mean being conscious of many many calories i consume.

cheezy · 20/06/2020 07:05

My natural weight is 9.7 stone and I have to work so hard to get below it. My body just resists it. Harder still to maintain. I feel much better at 9 stone though.

SummerMeadows20 · 20/06/2020 07:11

I sit naturally at 8st 5/6 (I’m 5’3) but I feel at my best about 8st - 8st 2. If I want to keep those few lbs off, I have to watch what I eat.

I’ve been 8st 2 consistently for about 5 weeks now and I’ve achieved this by just eating my breakfast at 8am and then nothing else until dinner at 6pm and then that’s it for the day. I do this 4-5 days a week (Mon-Fri basically) and then eat what I want on the weekend (thank god it’s Saturday Grin )

I’m still ‘slim’ at my ‘natural’ weight to be fair. but my jeans feel tighter/ stomach isn’t as toned, the tops of my arms look bigger and my face rounder, all which I hate. So for me, if I can keep to 8st 2ish I just feel happier.

Mmmmycorona · 20/06/2020 07:14

I sit at a weight but it’s far from my preferred weight. I can get my weight down with work though.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 20/06/2020 07:15

I thought that my natural weight for my adult life was 8 stone 10 - I'm 5 foot 8 so it was slim but not thin. Then last year I hit 50 and started eating a bit more - not massively but over the last year I have put on half a stone which I am finding it impossible to shift. I don't wear certain clothes any more. I'm eating less. It's not moving and I'm reluctantly resigning myself to the fact that 9 stone 3 or 4 may be my new natural weight.

squeekums · 20/06/2020 07:18

I sit at an average weight, have done since I was young with no effort at all.
I've always been an Au6 and hover about 45kg or as Google tells me about 7 stone
I've never stepped foot in a gym, never been on a diet or exercise plan and I eat as I please.

I naturally have a very small appetite though. If im stressed or upset i dont comfort eat, i lose my appetite. Don't eat to celebrate. Don't eat cos I'm bored, don't eat past full as I hate that feeling. There are days I forget to eat cos I just don't feel hungry.

Molocosh · 20/06/2020 07:19

My body wants to be 10-11 stone and I want to be 9 stone. I have to control my diet strictly to maintain my weight. Since I’ve been pregnant I’m stuck at 11 stone because breastfeeding hormones are preventing me losing weight.

Weighthate · 20/06/2020 07:19

I'm a lot heavier than most of you. I don't think I'd cope on just two meals a day. I get properly hangry!

OP posts:
WowLucky · 20/06/2020 07:26

I'm 5'7", just under 10st and size 10. That's how I like it and I do "sit" there when I have a good routine of healthy eating and exercise. I don't "diet" to maintain it, I'm never hungry, but the weight goes on very easily if I eat junk and miss my runs.

Positivevibesonlyplease · 20/06/2020 07:26

My DD has recently lost some weight and is now around the size of the Friends girls, when they were young. She’s extremely rigorous with what she eats, when and how much. She eats two meals a day and only within a strict eight hour window. She never eats after 8pm. Doesn’t eat processed foods and very few carbs either. Also exercises for 20 minutes every day and drinks lots of water. I think it almost always takes a lot of work and self control, it’s really rare that someone can genuinely eat what they want and stay very slim. BTW, my DD looks amazing, but I’m concerned she’ll take it too far.

Camomila · 20/06/2020 07:29

I don't actually know atm Confused
I've been either pg or breastfeeding for the last 5 years without a break. Atm I'm a lot less active than normal too (a SD walk with a 4 year old isn't really exercise)

MsTSwift · 20/06/2020 07:29

Until I was 25 I could eat what I want and was beautifully slim (5 6 8.5 stone) then as I shed weight crept up but as I had been slim my image of myself was slim. Quite a shock at 45 to be told my bmi was 27 and I was 11.5 stone!

Started 16 8 lost 2 stone now 9.5 stone and hoping to maintain. Sticking with 16 8

MsTSwift · 20/06/2020 07:30

Aged not shed

WowLucky · 20/06/2020 07:34

These threads always make me raise an eyebrow. I am often told I'm very slim, even skinny, sometimes too skinny, but there are people here taller than me, who weigh more than a stone less than me and who claim to be "slim but not skinny". If I weighed what these people do, I'd be less than my pre pubescent weight.

FurbabyLife · 20/06/2020 07:37

I’m 5ft 5 and 8 stone 7 (35)

For me consistency is as important as discipline.

Stupid ways of eating such as fad diets and extreme restriction do more harm than good. Although Intermittent Fasting has its merits (only eating in a 6 or 8 hour window).

I eat 3 balanced meals a day and two healthy snacks but I only drink water or fresh juice. I never ever buy junk food. Grazing in front of the TV at night would be an absolute no no! I don’t drink alcohol. I eat plant based therefore cutting out all the saturated fat and gunk in animal products. I think refusing to have children helps too.

It’s pretty easy to maintain a healthy weight this way.
