AIBU to think this is a great positive?

We are rising from this hell!

ThousandsAreSailing · 19/06/2020 18:06

YABU it is a political decision not based on any assessment of the situation. We won't get told the figures any more
Sky news said the private testing labs are so bad at keeping records that we have no idea how many people have it
As long as party donors/members get government contracts all is wellHmm

ssd · 19/06/2020 20:25

I've noticed we don't hear much about other countries now either? Guess they don't want the comparisons. Apparently we are third in the world for deaths per million, behind USA and Brazil.

It was definitely on the BBC today that all areas were below 1

riveted1 · 19/06/2020 21:31

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

Things are improving. So much so that a relative who is in one of the UK Covid vaccine trials got warned the whole trial is at risk because the chance of any of the participants actually being exposed to Covid is too low to demonstrate a vaccine is effective.

I don’t think that can be accurate, you don’t judge how successful a vaccine trial is by waiting to see it someone is infected naturally...

understandmenow · 20/06/2020 07:00

Why are people still saying the rage is above 1, but can't link any evidence.

Everyone must see that the infections and deaths are decreasing surely?

Bmidreams · 20/06/2020 07:30

East of England: 0.7-0.9, minus 6% to minus 1%

  • London: 0.7-1.0, minus 5% to plus 1%
  • Midlands: 0.8-1.0, minus 4% to 0%
  • North East and Yorkshire: 0.7-0.9, minus 5% to minus 1%
  • North West: 0.7-1.0, minus 4% to 0%
  • South East: 0.7-0.9, minus 5% to minus 1%
  • South West: 0.6-0.9, minus 6% to 0%
Bmidreams · 20/06/2020 07:31

Guardian reported infections could be increasing in London.

TJ17 · 20/06/2020 07:46

Wow it must be a miserable life for some of you lot 🙄

Yes OP I see it as a positive Smile and I think it's healthy to have some positives right now.

Nobody can predict the future. Not even the Scientists so a load of miseries on MN don't know any better about R Rate and 2nd waves...

So fed up of negativity and misery from so many right now! My fave saying goes here - don't let the B*strds get you down Wink

LynetteScavo · 20/06/2020 08:03

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-r-number-in-the-uk

The only place that is looking dodgy is London.

Scientist can make sensible predictions based on data. And I don't think it's unreasonable or being a miserable bastard to anticipate a second wave during flu season. Although I don't think we'll be back where were were in March.

TJ17 · 20/06/2020 08:47

Thing is the OP didn't mention 2nd wave or R rate...she wanted to speak about the positive of moving to 3 on the scale. People were too quick to shoot her down with negatives!
If it helps you sleep at night to anticipate 2nd waves etc go ahead but I think those of us who prefer to live by the positives should be allowed to that is all Smile it's a much happier life

TabbyMumz · 20/06/2020 08:49

Positive tests have stayed roughly at about a thousand a day for a few weeks. Yesterday they were 1 300 odd. Waiting to see if that's a one off

SpottyBrolly · 20/06/2020 08:59

I've noticed we don't hear much about other countries now either? Guess they don't want the comparisons. Apparently we are third in the world for deaths per million, behind USA and Brazil. @ssd no we're 4th behind San Merino, Belgium and Andorra. I also don't think it's too helpful to make comparisons with other countries given that we have no idea on who they are actually including in their figures. Also if you're that interested I'm sure you could go and research and find out the information.

Coronabegone · 20/06/2020 11:57

@TabbyMumz last Friday they were 1541 they're reducing

Guardian reported infections could be increasing in London.

Great bit of reporting they "could" be rising, maybe they're not though?

OP posts:
Bmidreams · 20/06/2020 15:33

It's cos there's a positive figure for London. But, yes, all reporting is now "could".

DefinitelyAgree · 20/06/2020 15:41

The R rate doesn’t seem to be that great a measure so far as I can tell, especially as case numbers drop lower. It’s a retrospective estimate and has very little accuracy.

LynetteScavo · 20/06/2020 18:00

From the Zoe App: This week's incidence figures suggest that COVID cases have continued to fall across the UK, which is great news! New daily infection rates have dropped by 26% from last week's figure and the R-value is holding stable below 1. However, extra vigilance is needed in London and the South East where these figures have dropped the least.

I think the thing about people getting excited about Covid-19 no longer being a serious threat in the UK is that everyone might just go back to socialising as they were pre-lockdown and the R rate might rise.

While things do look good, and I think schools should go back as normal in September, I do think we should still be a little cautious socially.

Coronabegone · 22/06/2020 18:38

So we are down to 15 deaths and 958 (yes I know it's the weekend), but it's still decreasing!

The cries of send waves due to VE Day, packed beaches, BLM rallies are not showing.

I feel ever more positive that we're beating this beast!

OP posts:
Coronabegone · 22/06/2020 18:46
