I don’t use pads or tampons

This is inspired by the post on winged pads. I have always hated tampons and found them uncomfortable and used to use pads when I had a heavy flow as a teen but now in my mid twenties I have quite a light period and now tend to bypass both.

I find pads uncomfortable and also am reluctant from an environmental perspective don’t like to throw hundreds of them away each year. I intended to buy thinx or a similar brand but then just began using a little loo roll (as I’m sure most women have done when caught short!) and found that as I go to the loo once an hour or less anyway so can replace and am very light, it works fine.

Does anyone else do this?

Period pants would be perfect for you! I wear them on my light flow days and find them comfortable with no smell/leaks

NoMoreDickheads · 19/06/2020 14:01

They can also slip out of place as there's nothing to hold them in place. And also nothing going over the side so you can bleed over the sides.

CornedBeef451 · 19/06/2020 14:03

I've switched to cloth pads and have found them surprisingly good.

I have light periods though, not sure how anyone with heavier periods would get on.

totallyyesno · 19/06/2020 14:04

Period pants and washable pads are surely much more comfortable and hygienic?

totallyyesno · 19/06/2020 14:05

I tend to use about two tampons per period (on heaviest days when I am out the house) and the rest of the time I use washable pads and period pants. Works really well for me.

yoyoslipper · 19/06/2020 14:05

Wow I envy you, I have to wear two super pads at night then I wake up early and use a tampon so I can lay in without ending up with a red mattress.

I tried a mooncup and it leaked as well as proved very difficult to get out without making a right mess, I was a bit concerned that it may never come out Blush
Would never use one in a public loo.

I think maybe as pp have suggested possibly period pants might be a more hygienic option? I wouldn't know though, never had a light period.

Bertucci · 19/06/2020 14:07

If only! On my heavy days, I have to wedge in 2 tampons!

Sunshineandflipflops · 19/06/2020 14:08

I use a mooncup. I hate pads and have never used them and have found my cramps have stopped and my periods are shorter since switching from tampons

Same here! My periods used to be around 4 days and now barely 2. I didn't know if it was down to my age (41), using the mini pill or using a mooncup.

I have been using a mooncup now for about 3/4 years and don't use anything else. Completely forget I'm on my period.

AwakeNotWoke · 19/06/2020 14:10

Period pants have been a total, utter, game changer for me. I absolutely love them.

SadSisters · 19/06/2020 14:10

I’ve had to use loo roll when caught short and I always hate it - it’s uncomfortable, smells more, and doesn’t feel dry. That said, please feel free to do whatever works for you!

LemonPeonies · 19/06/2020 14:12

I find pads itchy and uncomfortable too but used to find tampons uncomfortable (pre baby) I haven't had a period since he was born yet but moon cups appear so big, even the smaller ones so will probably just used pads and be a bit itchy Grin

Funtcase95 · 19/06/2020 14:13

Mooncup for me. Here to suggest period pants for OP though.

MinorArcana · 19/06/2020 14:14

My periods are nowhere near light enough for me to get away with using toilet paper.

I’ve recently switched to reusable washable pads which is more environmentally friendly than the disposable sanitary pads.

Haworthia · 19/06/2020 14:16

Why complicate your life SO MUCH by using loo roll and going to the toilet every hour to change it? Think of the trees! And what do you do overnight?

Samtsirch · 19/06/2020 14:17

@NoMoreDickheads
Same.
Sorry that you went through that too.

Turkeydrumstick · 19/06/2020 14:18

I had to use toilet paper when I was younger and when I didn’t have access to sanpro and I found it awful. My skin would be really sore and I suffered terribly with thrush. If a guest every gets caught out and asks for sanpro they always laugh now and the selection and quantity I have in the house.
What ever works for you and your body, no one should be uncomfortable during their period.

AnnaNimmity · 19/06/2020 14:19

I kind of think loo roll isn't fit for this tbh. It would disintegrate, smell, move around, not be so absorbant. And going to the loo every hour?

Anyway, I've been a mooncup user for years. It's so easy.

Bearbearbobos · 19/06/2020 14:19

Op I do the same. It works for me.

FightMilkTM · 19/06/2020 14:20

Jesus Christ, a period flow humble brag. Seen it all now. Confused

user1471523870 · 19/06/2020 14:21

Period pants and washable pads for me. I have been doing it for few years now and I wouldn't go back. They are so much more comfortable, smell is minimal, I don't have to remember to buy pads every month and of course I am trying to save the world:).

MouseholeCat · 19/06/2020 14:21

I use a cup for days 1 and 2 and then switch to a reusable panty liner for 3-5 when I just spot. I had the toilet paper coming out of my trouser leg experience once and do not want to repeat that!

Just buy the darn Thinx, much easier!

And for anyone intimidated by the Mooncup size and rigidity, there are a ton of other options on the market that are less firm and work better for many women. Mooncups irritate my bladder and make it hard for me to pee, but I've used a cheap one from Amazon for 6 years now with no issues.

ArriettyJones · 19/06/2020 14:21

Why do you want us to tell you about our menstruation arrangements OP?

You could be anyone.

You just do you.

peachypetite · 19/06/2020 14:21
Confused
InsaneProbably · 19/06/2020 14:23

I do the same as OP, apart from the first day (and that's just really for insurance rather than need). But I do have really light periods these days.

SixesAndEights · 19/06/2020 14:23

I used a Mooncup for the last decade of my periods, and I'd have to wear a pad overnight as well on the first full day of my period as the first 24 hours was always super heavy. So a bit of toilet roll wouldn't have done me much good!
