... my boss said well done. Anyone experienced anything similar? I'm not disappointed I didn't get the well done. I'm disappointed she withheld it.

It must have been really good because you’ve posted this twice lol.

Beatingthisthing · 18/06/2020 13:02

Well you are disappointed you didn't get it then aren't you? As you think she's deliberately witheld it? Lol

Can you not be happy with the work you did and the feedback you got?

Thingsdogetbetter · 18/06/2020 13:14

Was the work you did outside of your remit where you want above and beyond, or did you just do part of your job really well? Latter you don't deserve praise, it's your job. Former: is it possible it makes it look like your boss dropped the ball and you picked it up?

SayrraT · 18/06/2020 13:16

That's a bit crap, I would be disappointed.

My boss is like that, for our annual appraisals he basically says that no one will ever get 'exceeded expectations' (the options are needs improvement, commensurate and exceeded expectations) because his expectations are so high. In his opinion you come to work and work your hardest and shouldn't expect thanks/well done for doing your job.

I am regularly disappointed and I am slowly coming to the conclusion that there is no point in trying to be better at all since I'm never going to be good enough. As long as I have pride in my work and try my hardest I've stopped going above and beyond because he doesn't give a fuck.

I'm sorry your boss is like that.

Well done for whatever you did, try to just be happy that you know that you did a good job.

HowFastIsTooFast · 18/06/2020 13:21

Eugh, sorry you're disappointed but take heart from the fact that you are proud of it and others have acknowledged it.

My MD has a habit of taking ideas in meetings, actioning them and then 'forgetting' whose idea it was when they're successful. After 14 years with the company I now have no trouble in piping up and claiming my good ideas as my own! ;)

Bluetrews25 · 18/06/2020 13:23

Well done, OP!
Withholding praise is a type of workplace bullying. Anything else to go with it?

Beatingthisthing · 18/06/2020 14:01

Yeah, needy employee wanting validation (and getting it from others) is being 'bullied' by not having their boss directly giving them a pat on the head Hmm.

Bring it up at your next appraisal lol.

OhioOhioOhio · 18/06/2020 14:09

No. They are really nice people. I guess I did just do my job really well. Maybe it's not a big deal after all. Just seemed so unlike my boss.

I would move on. Yes, it sucks, but you can't do anything about it. If it's a regular thing and bothers you that much then move jobs (when you can)
