AIBU to leave my cat outside with a sign around his neck saying ‘free to a good home’?

I am having a truly shit week - two close family members going through really awful experiences, some bad news for me personally, and my mum being hugely supportive but clearly struggling with being there for everyone.

So my cat, of course, decides that 10pm tonight is the perfect time to learn how to open the cupboard where we keep the glasses, climb inside, and send literally every single item of glass inside crashing to the ground, where they make a sound which would wake the hounds of hell and smash extravagantly on the floor. This sends my other (highly nervous) cat into a paroxysm of terror, as a result of which she uses my face and incredibly sore pregnancy boobs as a springboard to launch herself upstairs.

I’m now beadily eyeing the homewares vandal as he cleans his whiskers on the mantelpiece looking like he’s never done a thing wrong in his life, and wondering if he wouldn’t make quite a nice pair of slippers...?

He looks well hard.... you’d better apologise to him pronto and break out the dreamies to show you mean it.

That photo reeks of "bow to me, puny human".

Being pregnant with a cat is lovely. My nervous and unfriendly cat used to cuddle up to my bump and purr.

YABU to think you have any say in where your cat chooses to live and who he chooses to grace with his presence.

YANBU to think there are mugs out there who might take him on. Ours was “free to a good home”. Most expensive freebie of my life.

He looks well ‘ard, clearly a force to be reckoned with. I thought a feather-strewn lounge and terrified bird was bad (DP had to deal with it while I kept the DCs in their car seats) but glass is horrible. Sorry you’re having such a rubbish time.Flowers

@SadSisters sorry you are having a tough week. I love animals but they can be jerks!

Oh, OP. Sorry you are having such a crappy time. We adopted our cat - who we adore - three years ago. We were told she was a very fussy eater, did not eat tit-bits, plus never, ever hunted. (To be fair she was mainly an indoor cat in her previous home.) In just the last few weeks she has tried to make off with a roast chicken resting on the side, killed numerous small creatures, swiped ham that DP was using to make a sandwich, and on Sunday she Licked My Cake. (I ate it anyway.)

Mind yourself and you are doing a great job.

Loving the kitty pics. Our kitty had to be pts a week before Christmas last year as she had a blood clot that affected her back legs. She was only 5 and a half (she was handed into the our local vets with her two brothers as a kitten) and our lovely lady vet tried everything to save her. The vet used to call her the Duchess after The Duchess of Cambridge as she used to come out of her pet carrier so elegantly! She brought 3 pigeons from our roof down two flights of stairs and deposited them in the kitchen with a very smug look on her face. Of course I had to chase the pigeons out the door and clean up the resulting shite and feathers!

I'm sorry you're having a tough time of it, op, but on the plus side you do have a gorgeous cat! I can see he may not be the daintiest feline around glassware, however! Grin Flowers

He looks just like my miss bubbles
no, there is no remorse
Just what can i get into next

But I see your glasses and raise you a not even 6 month old smart tv, smashed by the DOG
We went out, front blind was open a crack, the dog saw someone walk past and thought "i fit behind this big, brand new tv, i can get to that human"
We got home, thought we had been broken into until we looked at the floor, saw the tv and about fainted lol
dog is now behind us, all happy to see us........
We considered pimping his ass on the corner lol

You have a cat with mental health problems, so people on here would usually advise you to take him to see a cat counsellor.

I am sorry for your bad week. Your cat was trying to distract you!!

YABU as you shouldn't have had things in a cupboard that the Feline Overlord might want to explore. I know this to my cost.

I’m sorry your week has sucked but cats are arseholes.

My old cat used to lay on top of DH’s face in the middle of the night when he was asleep whenever he stayed over while we were dating.
He still insists it was trying to kill him. (He was right the cat was trying to kill him... Not that I told him that.)
He also used to knock things off your dresser or bedside table once you were asleep if he decided he was hungry, lonely or wanted to go outside.
He was a giant arsehole of a cat.

My cat did that in the vets once, jumped up in the cupboard above the table (think kitchen wall cupboard) full of those tiny glass vials of medicine, knocking things flying everywhere, I was mortified, vet said well, I've never had a cat do that before! She has also jumped up onto the top of that cupboard several times and has to be pulled down after climbing a step-ladder, but in summary no yanbu - cats are arseholes. As I tell mine frequently:- it's bloody lucky you're pretty!

In fairness, that's about as sorry as cats get.

I’m sorry about your shit week OP but I am howling at that cats expression.

My dearly departed twatcat once bit the vicar. He was not sorry. He proceeded to sit front and centre on the rug in the living room and vigorously lick his little furry arsehole only pausing to make intense eye contact with the still gently bleeding vicar.

He was such a knob. I loved him fiercely!
