AIBU to leave my cat outside with a sign around his neck saying ‘free to a good home’?

I am having a truly shit week - two close family members going through really awful experiences, some bad news for me personally, and my mum being hugely supportive but clearly struggling with being there for everyone.

So my cat, of course, decides that 10pm tonight is the perfect time to learn how to open the cupboard where we keep the glasses, climb inside, and send literally every single item of glass inside crashing to the ground, where they make a sound which would wake the hounds of hell and smash extravagantly on the floor. This sends my other (highly nervous) cat into a paroxysm of terror, as a result of which she uses my face and incredibly sore pregnancy boobs as a springboard to launch herself upstairs.

I’m now beadily eyeing the homewares vandal as he cleans his whiskers on the mantelpiece looking like he’s never done a thing wrong in his life, and wondering if he wouldn’t make quite a nice pair of slippers...?

All cats are adorable except when temporarily possessed by Satan!

Sorry, you're having such a shit week Flowers

Nsky · 17/06/2020 23:06

Women and cars Dias they please , men and dogs had better get used to it.
What a crap week, sending love

SadSisters · 17/06/2020 23:09

Thank you for the kindness, all Flowers

Trade you...
, mine has taken to crapping under the stairs, despite her clean, private litter tray...
When I blocked access under the atairs, she did her buisness, just outside the litter tray this am🙄

When I had house cats (can’t now, highly allergic DC)

But anyway, when I had house cats, I installed baby locks on the cabinet doors for exactly that reason.

Justgivemewine · 17/06/2020 23:16

Lol second cat thread I’ve seen in 5 minutes reminding me why not to have one of the little barstewards

category12 · 17/06/2020 23:19

He's very handsome. You should apologise to him for whatever your sins are.

Thinkingabout1t · 17/06/2020 23:20

Read Roger McGough's poem "The Care Less Cat" and you'll know that, whatever disasters happen around it, "the cat couldn't care less". But at least it will make you laugh.

Stefoscope · 17/06/2020 23:21

Ah bless. I can totally relate to the look of 'defiant cat' he has in the picture there OP and totally get where you're coming from. Sadly we witnessed a couple's beloved cat being pts in the vet's car park the other day, DP (as a lifelong dog man) didn't think that was what was happening as the cat gave a good few punches to the owners eyes before being returned to the vet. As a girl who grew up around cats I wished I could give that lady a hug. Somehow the more independant and feist these kitties are the bigger the hole they leave in the heart.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 17/06/2020 23:25

Oh that cat is not one bit sorry.

BloodiedButUnbowed · 17/06/2020 23:26

Ah, the picture of the offender has thrown light on the matter. He’s not a cat, he’s a house panther! Bound to be less contrite than your average cat due to their sense of dignity. I love house panthers, we have one too!

redastherose · 17/06/2020 23:27

I could happily have sent mine to join yours with a sign when I woke up this morning to find the remnants of his overnight snack of rabbit disembowelled on my bedroom floor.

Sorry to hear about your woes OP, I'm sure your Master just caused chaos to distract you.

Snorkelface · 17/06/2020 23:37

That it literally the least sorry cat I ever saw! He's magnificent!

Enough4me · 17/06/2020 23:39

I wouldn't give him a sign to hold, he can smash glasses with his kick-boxing muscles already, don't give him a weapon to bash about.

Effsee · 17/06/2020 23:40

I sympathise with you. Cats are fluffy, cute looking arseholes.
One of mine has a habit of pissing around the house. The last occasion was about 3 weeks ago where she pissed on my babys mattress. To say I was furious was an understatement.

Both mine like to get into cupboard too and eat whatever they can (They get fed plenty during the day, honest!).
How do cats manage it? I'd love to be a fly on the wall and watch them get up to all sorts of annoying shit.

SadSisters · 17/06/2020 23:42

This thread has made me laugh, no mean feat at the moment!

I feel your pain OP. I foolishly have 4 cats, 2 of them are kittens and are generally indulging in trashing our house. Hopefully they’ll grow out of it and your DCat will too. Sorry you’re having a shit week, naughty DCat should be trying to cheer you up.

Heartofglass12345 · 17/06/2020 23:44

I love him

CarrieMoonbeams · 17/06/2020 23:46

That's definitely a "Sorry, not sorry" face right there OP 😍😍

weathervane1 · 17/06/2020 23:46

He does look rather smug and regal ... I think the sooner you realise it's all your fault, the quicker you can make amends. I'm thinking tuna fish served on a bone China saucer carried in on a velvet cushion and a modicum of fanfare. At least that's what my cat told me to say...

spongedog · 17/06/2020 23:47

I used to threaten my last one with becoming a pair of fur gloves when he did something particularly naughty like wreck the stair carpet. Sadly he was pts in Dec and we do still miss the little bastard. The replacement is gorgeous - a little polar bear of loveliness but not the same purr-sonality at all. But in your photo not the slightest hint of remorse. Back to child proofing the house!

Wbeezer · 17/06/2020 23:48

One of mine bit me on the calf as she walked past, completely out of the blue. Well she is a bit bitey but usually only if you invade her bubble when she's feeling anti social. Occasionally bare flesh seems to tempt her though, especially toes. We have to warn visitors, if she was a large dog we'd be in trouble!

MehMehMeow · 17/06/2020 23:50

Awww how could you be disappointed in him? He’s a gorgeous looking house panther!

@Stefoscope that’s so sad, but I’m glad DCats humans were still there at the end. We’re holding off DCat1 and DCat2s annual check ups until we can go inside the vet clinic with them. DCat1 is particularly timid and already requires anxiety drugs before any car trip.

DCat2 likes to poop at the entrance of all litter trays and refuses to bury them. Like a trophy. DCat1 has a lot to put up with, both in terms of feline sibling and humans that don’t deliver as many Dreamies as desired,

undercoveraessedai · 17/06/2020 23:53

Hugs for your shit week and gorgeous but entirely unrepentant cat!

aprilanne · 17/06/2020 23:54

Sorry about your week but doesn't he look like lord of the manor .what a beauty
