To think I might be exempt from UK quarantine?

I'm a nurse ( in a care home, not NHS).
Have I read the list of exemptions correctly?

I read it to be doctors and nurses coming over to the U.K. to work, eg because hospitals are overwhelmed again and the nhs has to recruit from abroad. Not for coming back from holiday, if that’s what you are thinking. Though I agree it’s not clear.

In any case if I was your employer, and you went on holiday now, I would not let you back to work before the 2 week period was up, even if the exemption applied, as you are caring for the most vulnerable.

I agree with PP. The exemption is for Healthcare professionals travelling to the U.K. to provide essential medical care - I would take this to mean doctors/nurses coming to work, not U.K. professionals coming back from holiday

I just googled some more and I think you’re right, but your employer might well still not let you work. It might be irrelevant by the time people start being able to take holidays though.

I can't believe you'd want to take that risk. Especially in a care home!

thaegumathteth · 17/06/2020 21:31

Wait. Do you mean after a holiday? Christ I hope you're not exempt!

I also initially thought the same thing (I'm a nurse), that medical professionals would be exempt from the 14 day quarantine period. Not that I was planning on going on holiday! However I think that it just applies to medical professionals who are coming into the UK specifically to provide medical care/treatment ie folk who have been living abroad and are returning to the UK to pick up a post in, say, the NHS. Not for those who go on holiday then want to come back into the country.

I bloody hope not, if you mean after a holiday!

Even if you were I would hope your employer didn’t let you back to work with vulnerable people before the 2 week quarantine period was over. And I wouldn’t expect them pay to you, or be very impressed with you.

I don't.
I wondered if anyone had read the list of exemptions as I did; it seems to make a mockery of the idea of having quarantine at all.
