AIBU - to think that the protestor was very lucky not to be hurt when they jump in front of a convoy carrying the PM.

Funny old world, isn't it

TBH - anyone who puts innocent people in harm's way through their actions, even if it's for a good cause, deserve what's coming to them - even if their cause is worthy.

He may have a great cause. But the police do have every right to protect the PM.

At least she got under the right horse, he endangered some poor guy just doing his job.

Apparently the jockey riding the King's horse was haunted by Davison's death for the rest of his life.

Pussycatinboots · 17/06/2020 16:00

Weren't they watching where they were going?

They need one of those special "Castle Barnard" eye tests.

chomalungma · 17/06/2020 16:01

@GimmeAy

Jeez - wouldn't you think they'd be better trained than that - PM rear ends the police in front, and then car behind rear-ends the PM. Weren't they watching where they were going?
I am sure that all people involved would be looking at that video, and the reactions. Including people who might want to attack the PM.

Police motorbike rider in front was fine and didn't hit the protestor from what I saw, but he was rear-ended by the PM and the PM was rear-ended by the car behind him lol.

No award from me @ LastTrainEast ....

Right of protest is still a thing. Advocating for the death of protesters seems a bit excessive even for Boris fans. Well done you on your need for a dictatorship.

bashcrashfall · 17/06/2020 16:02

Emily Davison isn't a hero, she is just the second most well known person associated with Women's suffrage. I say second as I think most people would know the Pankhursts but struggle to name all three of them so I've counted them as one!

SerendipityJane · 17/06/2020 16:03

@Pussycatinboots

Sorry *@SerendipityJane*, I cross-posted with you.
Not at all Smile

I have no idea whether this incident was political, deliberate or accidental.

However I have every idea that at the time, there was a desperate pressure - from women themselves - to label Emily Davison a "silly little woman" and brush her sacrifice (and much more importantly her cause) under societies collective carpet.

As a poster (Ed Byrne gets so vexed about in "DIfferent Class") in a SU common room says about feminism:

What's changed ?

ThePants999 Grin sadly it's not even a joke.

right of protest might be a thing. didn't know there was a right to dash out in front of a motorbike.
Sandybval · 17/06/2020 16:07

Good job it wasn't Cummings driving testing his fucking wanky eyes.

Grin

Not sure what the protestor hoped to achieve, very stupid but aren't a lot of people I suppose.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2020 16:08

It seems like a singularly ineffective protest, and unlikely to gather much support for his cause.

No one on this thread or the twitter thread seems to know or care what it was about.

(The BBC report does say, somewhat as an afterthought Boris Johnson's convoy in shunt outside Parliament www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53082877)

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/06/2020 16:10

I feel the same way about this as I do with the case of Jill Phipps, who jumped in front of a cargo wagon whilst protesting against export of live animals. Ill advised, stupid, self absorbed. Sadly Ms Phipps died. However, the act itself is dangerous to everyone in the vicinity, particularly a convoy where there are many more vehicles and people at risk of injury than the occupants of the lead vehicle and the protester. Exactly what does it achieve?

chomalungma · 17/06/2020 16:11

I am no Boris fan. And this is not advocating for the death of protestors.
However, if you run out in front of a world leader during a time of heightened terrorist threats, don't complain if you get killed by the people who are protecting that leader.

PickAChew · 17/06/2020 16:11

I thought this was going to be a comment on the brexit negotiations.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/06/2020 16:15

No one on this thread or the twitter thread seems to know or care what it was about.

There are so many things with which to be pissed off with Johnson right now that you'd have to be quite specific about why you are launching yourself into the road. You'd need to take a placard with you, at the very least, else your squished remains will be attributed to every grievance.

OneForMeToo · 17/06/2020 16:17

Love Ed Byrne.

AlternativePerspective · 17/06/2020 16:17

Advocating for the death of protesters seems a bit excessive even for Boris fans Anyone who deliberately jumps out in front of a moving vehicle, regardless of what name they’re doing it in is a twat and can’t really be surprised if they end up injured or worse as a result.

Fink · 17/06/2020 16:19

They need a convoy of cars & motorbikes to drive between the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street?! No wonder the bloody environment's up the spout. I don't mind a PM being given adequate police protection, even if it is BS Johnson, but surely some bodyguards walking around him should be sufficient.

Hingeandbracket · 17/06/2020 16:20

"Boris Johnson involved in car crash" is something that happens weekly, it just happens to be literal this time.
I expected this thread to be about his lamentable performance at today's PMQs - the fucker tried to make into ask Kier Starmer stuff - and KS asked if he'd like to swap.

Fink · 17/06/2020 16:20

Btw, the BBC report says he was protesting about the treatment of Kurds in Turkey.

Bewarethesealions · 17/06/2020 16:25

Involved in?? He IS a car crash.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/06/2020 16:27

the BBC report says he was protesting about the treatment of Kurds in Turkey

How did they find that out? Did he have a plan for getting this message out afterwards or did they just ask him?

GimmeAy · 17/06/2020 16:29

However, if you run out in front of a world leader during a time of heightened terrorist threats

World leader? Lol. World laughing stock you mean?

Heightened terrorist threats? I wasn't aware that our terrorist threat level had been raised recently?

Alsohuman · 17/06/2020 16:31

@SerendipityJane

And yet Emily Davison is a hero ...
Took the words right out of my mouth.
