To tell teachers bashers to go and complain to their own fucking schools

Aibu to be fed up to the back teeth of ignorant comments like "do your job like everyone else" and " it's your vocation" aimed at all and any teachers who happen to be on a thread. If you have a problem with the teaching provided by your own school contact them. People commenting have no idea of the workload that the people they are trolling online might be struggling with. It's bullying plain and simple and wouldn't be allowed to be aimed at other groups.

Do you honestly believe that every single teacher in the UK is lazy? If not why not contact YOUR school about the issues you have with YOUR child's teacher instead of starting yet another general teacher bashing thread.

As a teacher on here I have to say I have never been more demotivated. I work hard for my kids at school while also homeschooling my own three like so many of us. How dare you make me feel like I am failing because you have an issues, unfounded in some cases I am sure, with your school?

They are your children take some responsibility, contact the school if you have concerns and accept that most teachers are fired for the children they each but we don't make many of the decisions. They are made at a much higher level.

Nope. Not one teacher has started a thread of ‘All parents are...’ but the same cannot be said the other way round. But some teachers have been bloody rude about about parents - which is what I've said and I've no idea if teacher's have started a thread about parents on a teaching site - I'd be surprised if that isn't the case. Remember this is a parenting site!

But some teachers have been bloody rude about about parents

That’s fine if that’s what you think but that’s not what you said, hence my response.

And I am a parent too by the way...

Pepperwort · 18/06/2020 18:27

Some of the rudeness in fact reminds me that anyone can say they're anything on the internet, and there's a lot of bored people around on top of the usual mischief makers .

JesmondDene · 18/06/2020 18:32

Yep, Frippo I quoted the actual parental complaints earlier. Complaints, since the start of COVID, from parents of children in 20 schools out of 500. Not sure how many parents we have, but about 85000 children. Not bad going...0.024% of children have a parent who has actually made a complaint about a school to the LA. ( though admittedly their may be slightly more if parents in academies have complained to their own trust...LA not responsible).

A live lesson has everyone present etc

This where you show your lack of knowledge. Do you think all children have sole use of a suitable device and adequate internet access? And no, a smartphone with limited 4G is not adequate for a daily timetable of live lessons.

We do online lessons, but recorded, so they can be accessed when the child is able to do so. Everything we set online is tested on a smartphone first to check accessibility. And we still deliver work packs to over a third of our children because they do not have access to broadband.

Just popped back on this thread, blimey it's still going strong!

This is what I said

Some teachers haven't been very nice about parents either calling them thick, lazy, can't be bothered looking after their kids, not very good parents etc - as you say there has been blood spilled on both sides.

TheFallenMadonna · 18/06/2020 18:52

I've been pretty sanguine about the lazy teachers thing up until now because I know our families recognise the value of what we are doing. One thing that has made me cross throughout is the casual assumption, like Xenia's, that the opportunities available to some are available to all. The ignorance of privilege is unsurprising, but is irritating as it masks the genuine problems faced by some schools and families in supporting effective remote learning. What maddens me even more though, is this deflection by the government away from their own lack of direction and planning onto schools, and teaching unions. If schools are open absolutely 100% in line with government guidance, as most are in my area at least, the majority of children will not be in school. That is not down to lazy teachers, or school leaders running scared of the unions. It is the government that have set the parameters.

If only everyone realised that TheFallenMadonna

Too many are just desperate for their children to physically go back into school buildings, who will conveniently forget it all after a few months, not appreciating that there are actual barriers to the disadvantage gap that they just don’t want to address. It inconveniently reminds them it was there before lockdown but they just didn’t care then because it didn’t affect their child.

CallmeAngelina · 18/06/2020 21:08

Yes, Chloe, some are desperately clutching at any straw they can find to support their determination to justify schools opening without SD.
Who knew the the disadvantage gap even existed until Covid?
Oh yes, that's right. Teachers did!!

Grin that secret that only teachers knew - of course!
CallmeAngelina · 18/06/2020 21:32

My point, Gazebo, is that people are hurling these statistics at teachers as if we aren't aware of them. We've been calling for support and funding for such pupils for years, yet ignored. Until now, when it suits people's arguments to cite them as evidence.

JimmyGrimble · 18/06/2020 21:43

Yes Angelina I seem to remember our evil child hating unions calling for the same thing. Funny that.

I don;t think the Unions are showing their child loving side at the moment - but as to more funding for schools, I've always been a big supporter. Higher salaries for teachers and more sackings for the crap ones!
CallmeAngelina · 18/06/2020 22:16

Define "crappy ones."

FrenchtoEnglish · 18/06/2020 22:20

My daughter hasn't started school yet, but I'll be complaining to the head if she gets a teacher anything like you. I hope you're not an English teacher.

PumbaasCucumbas · 18/06/2020 22:26

Funny how quick it changes from.... “I needed wine by lunchtime, this homeschool is so difficult, teachers are heroes” to “teachers are lazy, it’s their fault the kids can’t go back”

Our school has been amazing, both with the home school contact and on our key worker/reception days - they have made this weirdness Ok for the kids, they’re happy which is the main thing.

listsandbudgets · 18/06/2020 22:36

This us from the children's commissioner. No wonder some parents are unhappy. Clearly lots of schools doing a good job.. and equally clearly some that certainly are not

Which one of us? Gutted over here.
VashtaNerada · 18/06/2020 22:39

IRL I’ve found parents to be polite and grateful for the hard work we’ve put in, I’ve had loads of really nice emails and comments. I’m willing to accept there may be some schools that haven’t made sensible strategic decisions during this time and that’s an issue to be resolved locally, but I’m certain that all teachers care about children and want the best for them. And I think most parents know that and appreciate what we do.

Another one who thinks that parents can dictate hiring and firing. Good luck with that.

I'm going to hazard a guess that if you're already planning on being "that kind of parent," all the staff will be praying your daughter is not in their class.
