To wonder whether office work environment will change?

Once we are all back in offices and things are relatively 'normal', will anything really change?

I'm in two minds. On the one hand, people have got used to working from home and mangers may trust employees to get on with it where they might have had doubts before and allow some more flexible working; people will initially be more mindful of not coming into work when they're sick - but will these good intentions last? I have a feeling once we're back in the swing of things they'll fly out the window. What do people think?

I am currently working out of my bedroom in a house share and hate it, if this goes on any longer than necessary I will be looking for a new job and complaining to HR about lack of safe working environment (no desk, little light ect).

Confused FlowersFlowersFlowers That was me not too long ago. It’s hell isn’t it? I hope it’s not too long before you can get back to the office.

Compulsory WFH would be the very opposite of inclusive. For many people it would be shit.

@EmpressLangClegSpartacus

Thank you, it really is, absolutely horrific! And many of my friends are in the same situation too.

That's why it really angers me to see calls (mostly on MN) for the widespread implementation of homework and abolition of officers. By all means call for widespread access to home working and more flexibility for those who want it but don't try to push your wants onto other people who work in very different manners and often those less privileged who don't have the space to home work effectively (unless you want to pay for a house/flat with a dedicated office for all those people, and funnily enough I don't see anyone taking that up Hmm).

I really hope that changes for you one day, Confused.

With the emphasis on ergonomic workspaces as part of health & safety when we’re not in pandemics, I don’t see how a company could reasonably insist that someone works from home when they have nowhere to sit except on their bed - quite apart from the broadband issue.
