Why are ASDA normalising paedophilia and Child Abuse?

Sunkisses · 16/06/2020 08:02

Is it OK for ASDA to send parents emails linking to an organisation that normalises paedophilia with red flag phrases such as "love has no age", and recommending books for children that contain explicit descriptions of child sex abuse? Why are they doing this? Are ASDA experts in home schooling and safeguarding? More details in this excellent thread by Safe Schools Alliance: twitter.com/SafeSchools_UK/status/1272638132589035520

Why is there no one that we could complain to. This is unsolicited and irrelevant communications sent out.

Ninkanink · 17/06/2020 17:10

Write to your MP.

Write to your children’s schools to warn them.

Write or tweet to Baroness Nicholson.

GibbertyFlibbet · 17/06/2020 17:31

Apologies if I have missed it, but is it clear how Asda chose recipients of these emails? I have an account with them, but didn’t get one (thankfully!)

Given their disappointing responses above, I wonder if Asda might take a little more notice of someone asking them to clarify on what basis they’re processing customers’ personal data here?

ProfessorSlocombe · 17/06/2020 17:39

There used to be a technique of protest whereby (if an organisation thought it could ignore it's way out of controversy) groups turned the tables, and instead of protesting (which doesn't work) they acted as if the change or measure in debate was perfectly natural.

in this case, maybe promoting ASDA as being a perverts paradise, and praising them for "finally daring to speak the truth" might achieve more than actually lambasting them ?

It's what I would have looked at, if I were 30 years younger or had grandchildren ...

All's fair in love and war ....

I didn’t get it - I just accidentally signed up for food. Maybe it’s the George list?
dobbleby · 17/06/2020 17:45

It would be interesting if they only sent it to clothes buyers at the same time they launched a special range. Almost like it was solely to make money.

SerenityNowwwww · 17/06/2020 17:47

I can’t remember what info i gave them - it was definitely groceries and I don’t remember any ‘how many kids in your household’ type questions.

Does ASDA have a reward card? If so then it would be fairly straightforward to identify families from their shopping patterns (which is the true purpose of reward cards - to collect data on shopping habits.

SerenityNowwwww · 17/06/2020 18:02

Nope - no card. There’s not even one near me and I haven’t shopped there for at least 16 years! I only registered because I saw some vans delivering when lockdown started (no slots anyway).

Ninkanink · 17/06/2020 18:08

People should email the papers too (I’m sure they’re aware but it doesn’t hurt to show our indignation as many times as we can until someone at the top - by which I mean the government- decides to actually take this seriously).

Make sure to mention that ASDA’s reply is disingenuous and there is absolutely no margin for ‘interpretation’. Also mention that Diversity Role Models and/or their materials should absolutely not be allowed into schools given that said materials do not pass safeguarding tests.

ProfessorSlocombe, I think that's rather a good idea. It's different and would capture people's imagination. A fresh start.
SarahTancredi · 17/06/2020 18:25

So how come when tras misinterpret everything shops and companies immediately chime in and are quite happy to lose customers to show support and will double down on everything.

But when parentswomen inform them with actual proof something that's in their own bloody words and unmistakable in what it represents , we are wrong /thick and they keep the connections?

Bit of double standard isnt it

JackiFazaki · 17/06/2020 18:27

I've replied also.
Will be copying everyone I can think of.

magicmallow · 17/06/2020 18:28

could people who have liaised with asda email the papers with the responses you received? e.g.

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

etc

Jux · 17/06/2020 18:29

I've had a response from Asda's "executive team" (thank you, Jon). It's the same one everyone else has had. It was hiding in my Junk folder which is clearly its natural home.

Ninkanink · 17/06/2020 18:29

The Telegraph.

The Times.

JackiFazaki · 17/06/2020 18:30

copying in everyone

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 17/06/2020 18:32

Please forward the shitty reply to Baroness Nicholson, Liz Truss and Gavin Williams!

If you internet search ‘Asda’ and ‘Paedophile’ together you get a surprising number of hits. Seems like it’s a popular venue for groomers to attempt to meet children for abuse (or caught in a citizens paedophile sting, or beaten up by the mother of a child you attempted to abuse - both googleable stories!)

JackiFazaki · 17/06/2020 18:33

Obviously Jon got the poison chalice on this.

Roger's told him to: "get this email off my desk". Roger's trying to keep his own hands clean.

JackiFazaki · 17/06/2020 18:35

DuDuDuLang
I did that search last night. The ASDA paedophile story is not far away from where I'm from.

Liz Truss doesn’t give a shiny shit for women’s rights.
She’s the same ilk as Emma Watson.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 17/06/2020 18:36

Janice Turner at the Times, James Kirkup at the Spectator and Julie Bindel at wherever the fuck she fancies will probably be interested in the story too.

At the very least Asda should be withdrawing the whole thing, permanently distancing themselves from Diversity Role Models and making a sizeable donation to Safe Schools Alliance.

They gave DRM £100,000 so a bit more than that would be appropriate.

JackiFazaki · 17/06/2020 18:37

Do you mean Gavin Williamson? Gavin Williams is a rugby player?Grin

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 17/06/2020 18:39

Ha! Yes. Although if anyone knows Gavin Williams’ email address we should get him on board as well!
