Forgot to put stamp on envelope!!

DD(9) spent nearly all afternoon writing a lovely letter to her grandparents who live about 10 mins away but they are still sheilding so she hasnt seen them since March.
She made a lovely origami envolope with stickers on it. I wrote their address on it and had the first class stamps literally right next to me.
Stupid me, wrote the address and then rushed to the postbox across the road and she posted it.
I got in and saw the stamps and thought 'nooooo"

What happens with an unstamped envelope?

The buyer will gets a card through their door saying something has been posted to them but they have to pay £X in order to receive as poster did not pay any postage

As far as I know, it would be delivered anyway. I was told that in my last job, although i suppose it could have been agreed in advance. But I think it should still get there! In my experience that is what happened

The recipient will get a card through the door and have to collect from Royal Mail depot and pay the postage, or they can reject it.

Or if they are feeling nice it will just get posted as normal :D

I think you have to collect the letter from the post office and pay a small charge.

The grandparents will probably have to pay the post office the price of a first class stamp plus a handling fee - shouldn't be more than £2 in total.

I will have to call them and tell them i'll post the £2 through the letterbox if post office ask them for it

I think you may need to wait until they've processed it so your payment is applied to the right envelope.

You can’t log in and pay. When the recipient gets a card through the door to say that there’s a letter on which the postage hasn’t been paid, they log in and pay

I'm kind of hoping that they might see it's made.by a child (the envolope is clearly child-made) and it says "nanny (insert name) and grandad (insert name)" on the envolope and they live literslly a 10 minute walk away so i'm hoping the postman might just give us a free pass.(wishful thinking probably)

I had similar, letter delivered here with very old stamp....from elderly relative (with elderly relatives writing on the envelope).
Was just delivered by postie in the normal way....there was “ excess postage due” stamped on envelope, but nothing happened, kind postie just popped it though the letterbox!

It is on the front of the postbox - collection time. They may or may not let you retrieve it.

Our posties empty the post box as they deliver so if you can catch them at your door, they might have it in the van
