Should we go on holiday?

Other half and I have a week booked in Cornwall from 5th July. Lovely airbnb with parking on the outskirts of St Ives, been looking forward to it all year (obviously until corona came around).

We're debating whether we should still go - the whole point of going was to enjoy the bars / cafes / beaches / coastal walks and lovely quaint (busy) villages and we feel now that we just wouldn't enjoy it as much. Plus, considering the schools aren't open, it might be absolutely packed (which we were trying to avoid, with these particular dates).

We've been sticking to the rules regarding social distancing and think we would be feeling 'oh think how nice it WOULD be' the entire time.

We're thinking of cancelling for a refund- what would you do?

As someone who lives in Devon, please cancel your holiday. We are about to get a spike because Bojo told people they could travel!!

It's tricky but I think in your position I would postpone, especially as it sounds as if you can get a refund? The things you enjoy sound like the same things we do on holiday, bars, cafes etc and I just don't think they will be there in the way we would want them to be. I guess you might get lucky and get a glorious week of sun where just walking etc would be nice but not guaranteed.

I was supposed to be in Cornwall this week but we decided to reschedule for September. If we are allowed to go then we damn well will even if not everything is open.

Early July SHOULD be ok but you will be literally the first week’s worth of (legitimate) visitors so might have a frosty reception from the locals. Tricky but at some point tourists will start visiting again and the locals, many of whom rely on tourism to survive Will have to welcome them.

I would go...We're currently looking to book a couple of days for that week to go to Yorkshire and visit the zoo.

Quite frankly the government and medical officials are doing a shoddy job, so not quite sure that comment is useful, is it?

I'm also aware of the point that @cookiemon666 made - even though BoJo may say we're technically allowed to travel, maybe we shouldn't considering how bad the situation here has been

We had a similar trip booked and rescheduled it for next year. Don't think everything will be open

I would but we self-cater and tend to just do pretty remote dog walks when we are away. Just the change of scenery would be enough for me

I'd be very surprised if they didn't. Most are now taking bookings for that week. Of course it's not guaranteed but very likely.

Wondering the same thing myself, due to go abroad late August - early Sept.
Still grappling with partner about what to do.
It appears the country will be open but I still feel like locals won't be happy with the influx of foreigners as I'm sure they would like to enjoy their own surroundings after so long in lockdown.
Partner seems to think the opposite and says locals will welcome foreigners for economy boost its a tough one.

Goes without saying, this is all dependant on being officially allowed to do this - if not we'll definitely cancel

I think the issue for us will be less relating the hostility from locals, but more on the social distancing / feeling of it not being quite right.

I think considering we can get a full refund, we'll cancel it and go another time when we can actually enjoy it. Pretty sad about that really :(
