Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

embarrassing mama does it never occur to you that some people 1) might not live in East Dulwich - I doubt they cover Wellingborough or Redcar 2) can't afford Startrite.
I have never come across so much privileged, sanctimonious claptrap on one thread. And as for those who so too holier than thou because they will only shop on line - have you seen the conditions at Amazon etc? Their advert is bollocks.
And the oh so virtuous scrubs sewing - all the groups round here were asked to stop weeks ago so its probably going straight to landfill.

Willow2017 · 15/06/2020 14:47

Pigeon999
Glad you had a lovely time of course you have no business enjoying anything at all but too late now😉
Sounded like the shops were glad to see customers back through the doors cant imagine why🤔

tinkerbellla · 15/06/2020 14:48

I'm so excited but can't face it until I know there won't be mad queues.

EasternDailyStress · 15/06/2020 14:52

The death rate was super low yesterday and even adjusting for the weekend we are definitely coming out of this. Have a good day whatever you are doing today.

The death rate will be going up again in, oh, about 2 weeks from now, as everyone piles into shops because they're so desperate for a new top. It's far too early to be doing this. Just look at how badly the UK has done so far. Do you honestly think this is a good thing?

countrygirl99 · 15/06/2020 14:54

Just like it leapt up after the VE day parties?

EmbarrassingMama · 15/06/2020 14:55

@understandmenow your point just now to @FleurDaxeny is totally contradictory to the point you made to me earlier, so I guess we can just conclude that you love trolling.

Earlier you took great exception to the idea that I might have bought cheap shoes for my kid, and now you think the shoes I bought my kid are too fancy. What point are you trying to make?

To my knowledge, any business that has been able to safely make a living has been doing so. Window cleaners are still working, pubs doing food have been offering home delivery and so on. If it can be delivered, it’s been allowed. There’s nothing odd about a shoe shop doing the same thing. And if you’re upset that other people don’t have access to those kind of services that I agree – it’s a great service and I’m lucky to have it. You’re extremely angry and aggressive.

EmbarrassingMama · 15/06/2020 14:56

@countrygirl99 I wasn't suggesting you buy start-rite - I was suggesting you use a free online tool to measure feet (such as the one provided by start-rite), then buy your shoes online. Thanks.

FleurDaxeny · 15/06/2020 14:57

understandmenow
without having derogatory comments made about their perfectly rule abiding purchases?

you are the ones who claimed people broke the rules. They did not. So now you need something else to be angry about. Grin
you just want to moan for the sake of moaning don't you!

countrygirl99 · 15/06/2020 14:57

You do know shoe sizes vary between manufacturers don't you,? Or have you never needed to buy cheaper shoes?

Alsohuman · 15/06/2020 14:57

And the oh so virtuous scrubs sewing - all the groups round here were asked to stop weeks ago so its probably going straight to landfill

Of course they won’t go to landfill, they’ll be used for the intended purpose. Why does doing something nice cause such a nasty response?

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 14:59

@EmbarrassingMama I object to your judgemental view of other people shopping! Made worse by your awful "darling I live in east Dulwich, I get a personal service, those "rules" don't apply to me", then judging others for going out to but their children's shows legitimately as "tat"!

If you don't like being judged then don't judge others!!

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 15:00

@FleurDaxeny

understandmenow what are you on about? You seem very angry Confused You do know pretty much the entire country didn't stop shopping during the lockdown don't you?
Sounds lovely pigeon and a really positive step.
countrygirl99 · 15/06/2020 15:00

Because its happening, it's what the groups round here were told would happen to any more non medical grade scrubs that were sent in. Have you been in a hospital lately? Did you see anyone in jolly fabric scrubs?

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 15:01

God, sorry! Completely quote fail Blush

NowImLivinInExeter · 15/06/2020 15:01

EmbarrassingMama 's posts are pretty obviously tongue in cheek.

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 15:01

you are the ones who claimed people broke the rules. They did not. So now you need something else to be angry about.
you just want to moan for the sake of moaning don't you!

@FleurDaxeny zero idea what you mean here, it makes no sense whatsoever!

DisobedientHamster · 15/06/2020 15:05

Stuck in fucking Scotland. LOL, used to be a SNP supporter. Not anymore. Only for a couple of weeks, though, then I'm orff and going to be going to restaurants, shops, etc. YANBU.

EmbarrassingMama · 15/06/2020 15:06

@NowImLivinInExeter Finally... ;-)

Thewordgame · 15/06/2020 15:07

So so happy the shops are now open, just the knowledge that if I do need anything I can just pop in and see what is around. I really hope people spend to their hearts content ( those whose income has not been affected) and there is a real revival for the high street chains and independents.

EmbarrassingMama · 15/06/2020 15:07

@understandmenow I never said other people's kid's shoes were tat. Please feel free to check. How are you so worked up about this?! Grin

steppemum · 15/06/2020 15:09

So you're angry that children have gone back and you're angry that they're not going back?

No Hmm No Idea where you got the idea I'm angry that they have gone back.
I'm angry that they have only gone back for a paultry 4 mornings, when they have missed so much and have public exams next year.
I want them back at school.

I think they would be back much more but for the teaching unions and I think the government doesn't care as they aren't part of the economy.

Schools should be a priority over clothes

AnimalCrossing · 15/06/2020 15:11

I’m working like I have every day since this started. Fed up of people treating it like a free holiday. I’m not planing to queue up for god knows how long.

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/06/2020 15:16

Fed up of people treating it like a free holiday

I’m working too, as well as home schooling a 6 and 4 year old and looking after a 17 month old. But for those who have been furloughed... what do you expect them to do? They didn’t choose to be furloughed. Are they supposed to be at home in the dark self flagellating? Why shouldn’t they try and enjoy the time they’ve got off?

userxx · 15/06/2020 15:16

Do you honestly think this is a good thing?

I absolutely do.

Khione · 15/06/2020 15:20

@ScubaSteven

Stupid title, OP. Lockdown isn't ending.

People still need to be careful, as long as they're social distancing it should be ok but I can't see that happening - the streets will be far too full for it to be a possibility. The reason the schools can't open is because the areas are too small for the number of people. So without PPE there are going to be a lot of people at risk by the shops opening up today.

A lot of 'non-essential' shops are essential to some/most of us but this really isn't a time for taking the kids round the shops to browse. It's not fair that people are doing that, fair enough if you need something specific and you have to take your DC with you, but going in a group just for the sake of it is selfish.

But there will be the perpetual 'loop holers' with their 'if Boris said it's ok then we'll take the piss' antics.

Err - lockdown IS ending. It hasn't ended and it might be a long slow process BUT it is ending.

There is a very small risk in going out ( - greater risk of an accident on the way - but) a minute one of getting CV. First there has to be someone with the virus who is non (or very low) symptomatic as they won't be out there if they ill with CV. (so a small % have it, of that many are in care homes or will be ill enough to stay in bed). That contact would need to be close enough and for long enough to transmit it to you. (unlikely to be passed unless you spend significant time in close proximity) and You have to be susceptible (not already had it or probably above 65) and then - even if you get it - you are likely to have a mild to moderate case.

I'm not shopping the it's certainly not because of the risk of CV19.

As for it not being fair. Life isn't fair, never has been and never will be - about CV or anything else. Also not selfish - see above and see the need to get the economy moving if we don't want there to be even more people in poverty (now that's an unfairness that is worth complaining about)

Also if Boris says it's ok then it's not a loophole, it's legal and normal and in no way taking the piss. (A loophole is finding a way out of following the intended ruling - not doing exactly what the government want you to do - see point about economy.)

You stay home if you want to. That is entirely your choice. (even if I think it's fuelled by the government and media's aims to scare the shit out of people in order to get them to comply that worked too well). But making up your own versions of the law and criticising those that choose a different path is questionable behaviour.
