There’s a spare in my street due to someone taking someone else’s accidentally, then getting a new one and now not wanting the old one. Do you want it?!

TheThingWithFeathers · 14/06/2020 20:54

I would be so cross! This happened to me, I bided my time and eventually stole it back!

bluebellforest · 14/06/2020 20:55

Oops! Posted too soon.
We have been lazy bastards ourselves to be honest, didn't bring the bin in when it was emptied on Friday Blush but in our defence, it isn't outside our house, but at the bottom of a back alley that goes behind all our houses.

You need to 'pimp your bin' when you get it back then it won't get stolen again!

I had this happen to me once. I knocked on their door and asked if they'd seen it as it was missing. The woman's face was a picture she clearly didn't think I would notice it was them even though I could see it in their garden Hmm She still said no of course but they now can't put it out anyway as it has my door number on it. Waste of their time really.

3jane · 14/06/2020 21:05

Mine did this. It has our door number on it. When we pointed out he had ours he said, “but mine’s broken!” Hmm

Clevs · 14/06/2020 21:05

If someone has moved it to the back alley then they may not have pinched it. They may have just moved it out of sight because you didn't bother to put it away yourself.

Annebronte · 14/06/2020 21:15

Just knock and ask if they’ve got yours by mistake?

ichifanny · 14/06/2020 21:16

I had a thread on here about my bin I stole it back and faced them off Grin

Amibannedorwhat · 14/06/2020 21:17

Cor I’d be fuming! Tell the council it’s missing, you’ll get a shiny new one you can pimp it to high heaven so there’s no doubt it’s yours or fit an alarm like this -

Are you my neighbour Grin

This happens to us too. Exact same layout RE bins.

RedRed9 · 14/06/2020 21:21

I think I remember that @ichifanny 😂

FlamedToACrisp · 14/06/2020 21:40

Just go on the council website and report it as stolen? Report to police for incident no if required.

AJPTaylor · 14/06/2020 21:54

Are you sure? Did you see it after bin men? We had this once and the bin had gone in the lorry! Council replaced it.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 14/06/2020 22:37

Don't you have to pay for a replacement from the council, like £80 or something?

xsquared · 14/06/2020 22:42

That happened to me when new neighbours moved in. I don't think they meant to steal it, I think they were just too lazy to take it back when there was a bad storm.

Ended up ordering a new one, for free from the council. Only when we put this one out on bin day, it turned up on their drive despite having our house number painted on it very clearly!

Can you not just reclaim it if it's definitely yours?
