@GoldenKelpie I couldn't get the sound on your videos but I looked them up on YouTube and 😱
Shocking!!!!!!

sideorderofchips · 14/06/2020 21:46

I earned alright about a decade ago doing Ann summers. But nowadays with Facebook being massive it would be alot harder to sell and more pressure to sell online

And yes you out alot of money into it to start with

weegiemum · 14/06/2020 21:55

I get a regular amount of them targeting me - I have a rare neurological condition that has been researched for years and there are 3 treatments, all requiring intense medical input. I spend a day every 4 weeks in hospital getting IV treatment.

Or, according to people I've never spoken to in 30 years (who have clearly got my details from others) I could take some juice capsule (how is that juice anyway?) or drink aloe Vera or some other crap.

I really think that the medics would know this after all the research that's been done, and I do take a suggested lot of supplements that my consultant thinks might help.

It's all a bunch of crap. I don't buy anything from anyone (except once from an Usborne friend as I felt sorry for her but I never read the book.

It’s worth listening to The Missing Crypto Queen on BBC Sounds. Although it’s not about MLM they talk to someone very high up in it and it’s very interesting.

lemmathelemmin · 14/06/2020 22:05

I did it years ago with a FOREX MLM.

I would recruit people to access a trading education platform by convincing them that they could make money trading currencies. They would pay a monthly subscription and I would get a cut of that money and a free subscription for recruiting them. I had to convince them to recruit people too so that they could also use the platform for free.

There were various levels to reach depending on how many people you had recruited. Recruit 3 and you get a free subscription. If they recruit more then you get paid for recruiting others.

Nobody ever made much from trading forex. We had one guy lose thousands. It was devastating for his family. He had kids.

These schemes are despicable.

lemmathelemmin · 14/06/2020 22:11

Many people who were part of this forex scheme would take pictures of themselves on a (cheap) holiday in a lovely hotel or bar, they would rent out nice cars to show how much they were (not really) making. Flaunting their lies all over social media to recruit more fools.

Devlesko · 14/06/2020 22:14

It's very short lived though, even for those who start the scheme.
The one I was involved with was when they were in their infancy not like the huge ones today, helped by social media.
You made a lot of money quickly, it is was never sustainable like today.
I don't regret doing it because it was very short lived and nobody had to push anyone the product was what was needed for that market.
I think by these modern day schemes the older ones were quite tame. Every party I did a woman wanted to sign up. The couple who started it had moved on to the next one six months later, not years like today.

altiara · 14/06/2020 22:14

I like the tropic skincare stuff. You don’t have to order it through the reps, you can order online. And it’s way way cheaper than the l’occitane party I went to!

I do set myself rules, such as:
-don’t buy anything just because it smells nice unless it’s to replace something used up
-don’t buy make up brushes when you’ve stopped wearing make up
-don’t buy body wash as you’ve stocked up in Tesco
-don’t go to l’occitane parties as it makes you think you can buy the entire tropic range for the price of one luxury serum

imcold · 14/06/2020 22:28

A girl I know from school does FM perfumes and has a team of 150 people! I don't even think I know 150 people!
I'd be hopeless. I once had a Virgin Vie party and felt so guilty that the gift I got for hosting was worth more, the more people spent. Felt really cheeky!

HarlinRay · 14/06/2020 22:57

When flour was hard to get a few weeks ago i ordered some from a little farm shop online -and it came with a HANDWRITTEN letter from the farm shop proprietor, filling 2 sides of A4 about this amazing mysterious opportunity for ‘these trying times’. I figured out it was utility warehouse as his (broken) website had UW in the name (think something like uwlifesuccess.net or similar). I was so annoyed as I just wanted to make our bread for the week and it put me in an awful mood. I thought about writing him back to tell him off and to let him know that he was either a fool (if he was losing money) or a predator (if he was making money). Those are the only two types of people involved in MLM. 999 fools for every predator.

Whatdoingmummy · 14/06/2020 23:08

I make 4 figures a month with a team of 290 (about 150 are active), I started 18 months ago. My company is free to join (no catch), there is a kit you can buy for as little as £10 if you wish. I don't make money from someone in the team unless they make money, I work every evening after my 9-5 to make it work & I don't sell a dream, I'm very honest about the work I put in.

I understand MLM isn't for everyone & not every company is good though as I've had a very bad experience in the past.

backseatcookers · 14/06/2020 23:10

I understand MLM isn't for everyone & not every company is good though as I've had a very bad experience in the past.

Do you acknowledge that 99% of people who join MLMs do not make any profit?

backseatcookers · 14/06/2020 23:13

Also @Whatdoingmummy what MLM are you with?

I never understand people who share the opportunity and make income claims but won't say which company it is even on absolutely anonymous forums - hopefully you aren't one of those people, just something that seems to be a theme.

I always think it's strange if people won't say as if an opportunity is good and I genuinely think it is beneficial to people then I always want to share it!

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 14/06/2020 23:13

Shit. Don’t tell me l’occitane has gone MLM. Since when do they sell through parties?

HarlinRay · 14/06/2020 23:17

@whatdoingmummy you’re either lying (statistically, this is most likely) or you’re preying on those 150 who are actively losing money to fill your pockets. That’s how MLM works- mathematically it’s the only way MLM CAN work. There are no exceptions. None whatsoever.

If anyone reads the comment I’m responding to and is tempted to contact the poster out of curiousity- that’s what she’s counting on. PLEASE do your research. Don’t fall for this garbage.

Where's that % from? I'm not disagreeing people lose money & that some companys are bad.

I know that every single person on my team makes profit. They don't have to put anything in, unless they want to treat themselves, but there's no need to. They don't have to meet any targets etc so there is absolutely no need to spend any money.

I'm in the minority & I'm not looking to convert people, I respect everyone's views.

backseatcookers · 14/06/2020 23:22

Ill dig up the stats and share them in a a sec. Its refreshing you're open to listening to the figures!

What MLM is it?

Whatdoingmummy · 14/06/2020 23:24

No I'm not looking to recruit anyone from commenting on here.

What would I gain from lying? If I lie then people will sign up, realise It's a lie & bugger off. That would be pointless & time wasted, for what? I don't get paid when people sign up.

Apologies that I didn't state the company, I am with FM, previously with Younique which I had a very bad experience with.

backseatcookers · 14/06/2020 23:26

The 99% research was a from a huge industry audit from the FTC - the Federal Trade Commission.

The research in full is here:

www.ftc.gov/sites/default/files/documents/public_comments/trade-regulation-rule-disclosure-requirements-and-prohibitions-concerning-business-opportunities-ftc.r511993-00008%C2%A0/00008-57281.pdf

Lots of sources quoting that research here:

www.google.co.uk/search?q=stats+MLMs+99%25+lose+money&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari

Genuinely hope you read up on it and take on board the legitimate concerns people have with MLMs, it is such a flawed business model for anyone but the corporate team.

HarlinRay · 14/06/2020 23:27

The FTC (financial trade commission) is the source of the 99% statistic in the US. And to be clear even those 1% who are making money make very small amounts. The only people who get rich with MLM are the founders of the schemes.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/06/2020 23:33

I get so jacked off with being added to bloody VIP groups I didn’t ask to join. And a zoom online party for products I don’t want

I did once buy some arbonne out of sympathy. It’s actually lovely stuff (but v expensive)

backseatcookers · 14/06/2020 23:36

FM have not filed even one income disclosure statement for 15 years.

I run my own small business and I am obligated to file my income through self assessment tax return and a thorough filing of my limited company's profits, costs and tax requirements which is available for public record.

This requirement is standard for UK companies. In the US I believe there are loopholes but ask yourself this - as MLMs are constantly challenged to produce income disclosure statements for the company (not asking anything to be given by individual sellers / distributors) why would FM choose not to share their "success" for *fifteen years"?!

It would be the ultimate way to prove they legitimately provide earning opportunities. They do not.

1% of people make a profit. 1%.

Do you really make four figures per month after tax?

Income is vanity, profit is sanity.

Genuinely interested to hear your experience.

backseatcookers · 14/06/2020 23:36

Sorry that was to @Whatdoingmummy forgot to tag you!

Thanks for that, I will have a read.

I can only speak for the 2 company's I have been a part of & yes I lost money with Younique, I did a lot of discounts just to sell the products which meant I lost out. I spammed the shit out of people & most of my friends unfollowed me. Soul destroying.

However, what I experience now is completely different. I have learnt how to network, not spam. I hardly post on my Facebook about it, I never have to discount, I work my arse off and help people as much as they want, I'm not pushy, my friends follow me again Grin and I don't cold message people to join (shudder)

There are a lot of horror stories out there, but I'm basically here to tell you it isn't always like that.

If I disappear it's because I've fallen asleep, not because I can't answer your questions Wink

backseatcookers · 14/06/2020 23:44

I so appreciate you coming back to me, genuinely it's so refreshing!

I guess what I can't understand is you not researching the finances of the company, especially after your precious experience.

As you say this:

However, what I experience now is completely different. I have learnt how to network, not spam. I hardly post on my Facebook about it, I never have to discount, I work my arse off and help people as much as they want, I'm not pushy, my friends follow me again and I don't cold message people to join (shudder)

But you must realise that your previous experience as described below is almost certainly what the majority of your downlines are doing now...

I did a lot of discounts just to sell the products which meant I lost out. I spammed the shit out of people & most of my friends unfollowed me. Soul destroying.
