To think the idea that schools won’t be back full time by September is an absolute disgrace?

The government and teaching unions need to pull their fingers out. There should be no excuses.

The effects of 6 months out of school is going to be damaging enough, both educationally and mentally for hundreds of thousands of children. Not to mention the unnoticed abuse and neglect.

Teachers should be wearing PPE with spit screens if they are vulnerable and this should be being organised now. Temporary classrooms should be being built in playgrounds and school fields. Random testing routines in all schools should be being devised as well as guidelines regarding children’s contact with others outside of school and home. Whatever it takes, it must be done.

Our society expects parents to work while their DC are at school and if they want to get the economy moving again, schools being back by September should be non negotiable surely?

Absolutely

Regretful123 · 16/06/2020 12:35

@Raaaa have they died in hospital? It’s just the three corona hospitals have been wound down?

Jkslays · 16/06/2020 12:35

Masks will be the new normal and accepted. Kids will only be fearful because it's a new phenomenon but soon it will be normal

What for ever?? That’s the news normal? If masks are compulsory it will be for a limited time only. Early years children need to see facial expressions for learning to discipline. Luckily schools are already not wearing them so....

Sorry to piss on your chips!

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2020 12:39

I have no issue with teachers in PPE. Visors better as masks harder to wear, and assume visors protect the wearer. Although not should what they look like (they had very good PPE in Contagion, like that?),

worzelsnurzel123 · 16/06/2020 12:45

Teachers should definitely be allowed to wear PPE. Surely parents can’t be so precious as to believe that their childrens’ slight nervousness for a day or so trumps the teachers’ rights to feel safer. @Jkslays those early years teachers you refer to can wear visors which are transparent, so your kids can see their faces. There- problem solved.

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2020 12:49

Yep is where the government can put the money. Instead of staff / buildings / other.

Supply decent PPE, with that would teachers be ok with full classrooms?

947EliseChalotte · 16/06/2020 13:00

Teachers are not allowed to wear as it will upset some children. ...new starters...sen ...and other children who are sensitive/ easily upset. I know my child would be fine with teachers in PPE and really teachers should be allowed to protect themselves. But then it's upsetting and cause some children to have meltdowns when the child's parents aren't there and the teacher would have to comfort them along with trying to teach 29 other kids. It's a hard one with many different challenges.

I’m not dictating anything - do you speak for all teachers? I don’t think you do tbh. If you are an actual teacher maybe it’s time you choose another job? Speaking behind a mask is obstructive and if you as a teacher can’t see what effects on a child’s learning would I think it’s best if you did tbh. I taught sports for ten years to school children - if your interests are still not delivering the best learning support then it’s game over for you anyway.

Of course I don't speak for all teachers. The clue was in the use of the word, "I."
And I'm not sure whether to laugh or not at your declaration that I must choose another career because I simply said that IF I choose to wear a mask, I will do so.

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2020 13:05

What are German teachers doing? The children are wearing masks to school (have family there). Wonder if they wear it too and the children are ok with it.

CallmeAngelina · 16/06/2020 13:05

Teachers are not allowed to wear it
I'm afraid you're wrong. Many Head Teachers are allowing it. It appears to vary according to whim (although I'm not sure it would stand up in court if a teacher chose to challenge a HT's refusal).
And in France (often cited on here as the gold standard we should be following Hmm ), children are not allowed on the premises if they are not wearing masks.

CallmeAngelina · 16/06/2020 13:07

Surely parents can’t be so precious as to believe that their childrens’ slight nervousness for a day or so trumps the teachers’ rights to feel safer.
I think you'll find that "some" can be!

‘I just love the drama mick!’
947EliseChalotte · 16/06/2020 13:12

I'm not a teacher 😂 it's something I have read...that PPE would frighten some children x

LaurieMarlow · 16/06/2020 13:12

If they are, that would be a significant step forward.

And if the government has half a brain cell between them, they shouldn’t hesitate to commit to this. The economic benefits of all children back in school would far, far, far outweigh any PPE outlast costs.

CallmeAngelina · 16/06/2020 13:13

Where, exactly, are you seeing "drama?"

LaurieMarlow · 16/06/2020 13:13

Outlay, sorry

FrippEnos · 16/06/2020 13:13

Jkslays

PPE is the part of the compromise that is on you too accept.

LaurieMarlow · 16/06/2020 13:14

PPE frightening children is a ridiculous reason to not deliver this. Children can be informed and gotten used to the idea. No biggie.

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2020 13:14

If teachers are saying my right is to feel safe supply me PPE.

And parents are saying I want education back and take the risk, government keep teachers safe.

Then we are pretty I close to a place we can agree

If parents do not want to use it they can choose to stay home.

LaurieMarlow · 16/06/2020 13:15

If parents are concerned about the frightening nature of PPE, they would be welcome to home school.

LaurieMarlow · 16/06/2020 13:15

Yes I think so!

Sweetlikecoca · 16/06/2020 13:20

The chances of teachers getting PPE are slim. Hence why teachers don’t have it now for the kids currently at school.
CallmeAngelina · 16/06/2020 13:23

Depends what you mean by PPE. I'm not talking full hazmat suits, but simple face-masks would be a start. As others do, we would provide our own as we do most other things in our classrooms.

CallmeAngelina · 16/06/2020 13:25

The chances of teachers getting PPE are slim. Hence why teachers don’t have it now for the kids currently at school.

That is, of course, why it has been deemed unnecessary for schools. Although not for GPs, shop-workers, delivery drivers and everyone else. It's clearly only teachers who no one gives a shit about.

Sweetlikecoca · 16/06/2020 13:27

@callmeAngelina Would schools allow this though “simple mask” different masks do different things some only last a certain amount of hours & then have to be thrown. You’ve also got a thing about cross infection I’m assuming this is a grey are and this is why schools have not allowed masks currently
