If a job advert started that you could call for an 'informal discussion' before applying for a role, would you do this?

Do you think employers would look more favourably on somebody who did call and therefore remember them when they receive all the applications? It's a senior role.

Absolutely - good opportunity to ask sensible questions about the nature of the company, the role, what they’re looking for etc. It shows that you’re taking it seriously and that you are making the most of the assistance on offer.

All the keen, proactive applicants will do that. If you don't bother, they'll probably bin your application.

I've never done so. It's only affected me getting a job once (although I later found out it had been earmarked for someone else anyway).

I think it really depends on the job. I had people calling me asking me stupid questions and it was clear they were just calling to tick a box and trying to kiss ass rather than having genuine questions. It had the opposite effect.

I also had people calling trying to get me to tell them about the questions to come at the interview. That cost them an in invitation.

My advice would be: call but only if you really gave some relevant questions rather than trying to think of questions to ask just to justify making the call.

Thanks for input. The job advert and description is very vague so I was thinking about asking about the day to day/makeup of the role to see how it aligned with my skills
