To think coronavirus will make it harder to find friends

I’m relocating from London to the NW next month and am really looking forward to a fresh start, better quality of life and ability to save but I’m worried that I might end up a bit isolated.

I have friends who I know will come to stay but I’m going to be working from home for the foreseeable future and don’t have children yet. I was banking on making friends through work/ hobby groups etc. But I’m concerned that due to social distancing its going to be a lot harder to meet people and make friendships.

DF is originally from near where we’re moving and had family and lots of friends there who I get on with, but I want some friends to do things with on my own. Does anyone have any insights or suggestions?

There are online groups you can join. Where are you moving to? Big city or small village?

I moved from the South East to the South West 18 months ago and had the same concerns. I would say that lots of friends promised to visit but I haven't had one yet!

Will you be working? I've met people at work but no one I'd consider a friend that I'd meet up with outside of work.

I did join the local community facebook page and met a couple of people but again no proper friends. Also joined a meet up fb page but then Corona hit.

It is difficult and I'll admit that I haven't tried that hard as I don't mind my own company. Have you got any hobbies? When I sort myself out I'm going to do some local classes for sewing etc and am hoping that'll help.

Sorry, not much help I know but good luck with the move.

Thanks. I do have hobbies but I think they’re not likely to be up and running until next year (plus I’m hoping to be pg then and won’t be able to do it). I’d like to join an book group, but I imagine most will only be running over zoom and not really welcoming new members.

It’s a town about 30/40mins from Liverpool (where DF is from).
