To ask you to help with a complaint about the sickening front page of tomorrow’s Sun

My first AIBU

Please don’t give the sun any clicks - I’ll attempt to post a photo of tomorrow’s horrific front page.

Flowers to anyone this tiggers. It’s truly awful.

“I slapped JK And I’m not sorry.Sun confronts her 1st husband”

Any advice on the best way to frame a complaint to IPSO? I think it would come under several categories, harassment, privacy, victims of sexual assault.

This is a new low.

Doesn't look like support.

I think you are reading it through anti-Sun prejudices.

LillianBland · 12/06/2020 10:08

Oh for goodness! I can’t stand the Sun. it’s a disgusting, misogynistic rag, HOWEVER, it was not printed to shame JK, but in order to support her. Yes, they’re making money out of it, but that’s why papers exist.

It's inflammatory and disgusting and fills me with rage. I will make a complaint.

TorkTorkBam · 12/06/2020 10:30

Here is the article.

www.thesun.co.uk/news/11842719/jk-rowling-ex-husband-abuse-claims/

I would hate to see it pulled.

It does a lovely job of laying out how abusive relationships develop.

No way does it let her ex off the hook. They let him deny, challenge and he admits to a bit. They then write about the witnesses, the police being called, his drug addiction, etc. It shows clearly how abusers lie.

They end it by saying they did not pay him.

They link to other articles about JKR.

I hope it stands. I hope it is not taken down.

ArriettyJones · 12/06/2020 10:33

I fear many people will see it and not be able to read to between the lines. ‘One slap? She maybe deserved it’

You’d have to be a deeply disturbed or violent inclined person in the first place to think that.

Any normal person will see that headline and think that he is a horrible, violent man.

ArriettyJones · 12/06/2020 10:33

violence inclined^

FliesandPies · 12/06/2020 10:35

Even though I can see they are on her side maybe it's good if people complain, then perhaps they will have to put out another article to 'apologise' and make it clearer

FreeKitties · 12/06/2020 10:40

It absolutely shouldn’t be pulled, whichever way you interpret the report it shines a huge light on everyday misogyny and what women are up against daily and needs to be left in the public eye.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/06/2020 10:56

Vile though it is, the Sun has backed up her story. Let’s see if ER et al. are as quick to condemn domestic abuse.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/06/2020 10:58

If it's true they didn't pay him, I wonder what on earth made him do it? Confused Nasty, nasty piece of work.

Theluggage15 · 12/06/2020 11:33

I hate The Sun but this is an excellent article. I’ve seen people saying she was making it up, well this proves the truth of what she was saying in a really in your face way.

ChateauMargaux · 12/06/2020 11:46

She should have been believed without the need for this. She wasn't asking for sympathy.

recycledteenager24 · 12/06/2020 11:49

it's a good thing that they are exposing this abuse, it shouldn't be hidden away !

NotAGirl · 12/06/2020 12:06

The article may be supportive (I haven't read it so can't comment on the contents) but the headline is appalling, it's complicit, it's allowing him to boast about his abuse and shows he isn't ashamed and will be read by many abusers as tacit approval. There's no hint of censure in that headline

The problem is an abuser's boast is a front page headline of a national newspaper.

Yes this is the Sun profiting and having it both ways. Playing the supporting/reporting card whilst simultaneously having the big headline describing domestic abuse as "a slap"
