The JK row has just made me feel really quite incredulous today. How did we even get here?

Well it's er..... Men behind it Hmm

Patriarchy innit

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 23:19

Men . Very rich men and pharma companies.

FangsForTheMemory · 11/06/2020 23:21

I don’t think it is all that powerful.

Now the anti-trans lobby on here is a different matter. I do wonder who’s behind that.

HTH.

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/06/2020 23:22

Men. Threatened by the rights women have fought for and using what they can to destroy them.

But I know what you mean. It’s a strange world we find ourselves in right now.

Women are losing their jobs and getting rape and death threats for speaking simple inoffensive facts. It’s exhausting.

Frozenfan2019 · 11/06/2020 23:22

Why would it just be men? I genuinely don't get that. There are transmen too

LavenderLilacTree · 11/06/2020 23:24

It's just that most people think of the difficulties trans people face and are understanding and compassionate and don't assume trans people are anti women or out to harm women (which is often the impression I get here in MN - it's put me right off feminism).

bishopgiggles · 11/06/2020 23:26

There are some great, detailed threads on FWR from a while ago looking into exactly this. Sorry I don't have the time right now to find them... but they make interesting reading!

truthisarevolutionaryact · 11/06/2020 23:27

James Kirkup has written about this - the tactics employed by these groups have been unbelievable:

NotNowPlzz · 11/06/2020 23:30

Men's war tactics.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 11/06/2020 23:30

And here's a Mumsnet discussion on FWR about it. It makes chilling reading:

Google Jennifer Pritzker.

Spanishcove · 11/06/2020 23:37

It’s simply another manifestation of male privilege colonising women’s bodies, rights and experience.

SoberCurious · 11/06/2020 23:39

Well yes men obvs!
But which men exactly?
It's just so fucking insane.

I dont understand it. FWIW the men I know seem to agree that trans lobbying is not acceptable when it infringes on women's rights.

SoberCurious · 11/06/2020 23:45

Thanks @truthisarevolutionaryact
That's fucking disturbing!

They have just got lucky with the fallout with Transwomen. Do you think this whole debate would be going on if Trans men had started it? They are no threat in men’s prisons, men’s loos or to men’s sports. They would be totally ignored.

PickAChew · 11/06/2020 23:51

Transwomen aren't a problem or threat.

It's extremists with an agenda who are a problem. I do wonder how their influence did come to be so much greater than their numbers.

bishopgiggles · 11/06/2020 23:53

Perhaps doesn't directly answer your question but still interesting reading: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3388967-Illuminating-Twitter-thread-about-the-origins-of-the-Gender-Recognition-Act?

(this is linked to/referred to in the '2007' thread)

Incels. In the original context of the phrase - involuntarily celibate.

Your average mate who is transitioning isn't demanding access to your shower area or planning to have conversations with your daughter about tampons. It's the people who feel entitled to sexual gratification from people who do not want to provide that for them (for whatever reason, it doesn't matter why, women are entitled to not want to service anybody else's desires) and their rage that drives the juggernaut.

HarryHarry · 12/06/2020 00:04

I feel ridiculous saying this but sometimes I wonder if this was all started by Russian troll farms, putting it out there that transpeople are the most oppressed group ever and that anybody who questions trans ideology is transphobic, until people started to believe it. For what reason, I don’t know. To divide feminists? To erase gay and lesbian people? Who knows. I’m not one for conspiracy theories but the way my anti-gender critical friends spout mantras like TWAW and Trans rights are human rights (which I do agree with before anybody calls me a transphobe!) instead of ever actually saying anything that sounds like original thinking makes me feel like they must have been brainwashed by the stuff they read on the internet.
